Days turned into weeks and weeks into months through which time Tatiana had grown from a playful pup to a hormone enriched adolescent. Having followed her adoptive father around she began to explore more and more on her own, pushing her boundaries, several times coming close to leaving the packland all together but being distracted or disrupted by a pack member or a mere small mammal that looked like good fun to chase. Though she had grown in body, her mind still gripped onto the puppy play that her earlier days had been filled with. Of course, the puppy play had managed to mold the young fatal into a decent predator but improvement was certainly in the future.

The sun was shinning brightly, tiny trickles of the warm rays managed to peak through the canopy high above Tat as she slipped through the dense foliage along the forest floor. Tounge hanging from the side of her mouth she proceded towards the territory boundaries. Ears flew up as a sound echoed through the branches causing her stop in her tracks. A quick movement to her left alerted her to someone's prescence but she only found several birds escaping into the air. Chastising herself mentally for her jitterness she set off at a rolling pace towards her destination. The thought of being able to explore further than the packlands she had known for much of her life was creating a desire within her. Her adoptive father, Hige, had promised her a trip to the freelands but no such trip had occured yet and Tat was getting anxious. If he didn't take her, she would go on her own.

The territory boundaries were growing closer. She had explored them when she was younger, well, more like Hige took her to make sure that she never stepped past them so she would be safe from any lone wolves. Now that rather boring time spent following the boundry lines became quite valuable to the she wolf.

Slowing down as she neared her destination she meandered across the forest floor, hopping over a fallen log in the process. Trotting through the forest a gentle breeze managed to wind it's way through the trunk and branches of the trees bringing with it an unknown scent. Standing stalk still Tat looked in the direction the wind had come, lobes perked and eyes acute.

Lowering her form she turned directions toward the scent of the strange wolf. It didn't take long till she found the intruder either being only several yards from where Tat had previously been. There was no sign that Hige was around anywhere, and alerting him may not be the greatest idea at least not for Tat's plan. She was determined to go over the boundaries today but if Hige came...well that plan would be destroyed once again.

A low growl formed within her throat as she stepped into view of the lone fatal. Lobes pinned against her head and enamels clearly displayed. Maybe some vocalization and bodily warnings would drive the loner away and Tat could get back to what she was doing.

The forest seemed to shrink, pulling sharply at the corners of the lone wolf's ears and badgering at her feet. Had she wandered too far? Her tail, so accustomed to being tucked between her legs flashed once upwards in alarm and thought. It felt good to feel it swish behind her, and it reminded her of the double edged benefits of her obnoxious size.

The black and tan beast's muzzle flinched as she smelt the air, slowly roving over the scents. Somehow the voles had led her downwind; and this peculiar situation made her uneasy. Even worse was a pulling hunger that prodded her mind to keep looking for more voles, and to ignore the quiet forest.

But for all of her down fallings, she was a clever wolf. And she did not continue her search, but rather she swung her bulky muzzle about to try and catch a scent on the wind which might tell her how far she had wandered from her shabby den among the roots.

It was the low growl, rather then the smell that pricked her attention. Her head slowly swung around, locking sharply on the bright form of a white creature in the distance. For a second she thought it a fox, or some kind of strange coyote. But as it took a further step into view, she concluded cautiously that it was a young wolf. Younger then she had seen around in quite some while. And it had quite the audacity to be growling at her!

The She shifted her tail, unsure if she should curl it against her belly and run, or scare the thing off. It was one thing for adults to pick on her, but she'd be no child's quarry. And with that, she carefully lowered her head and rose her hackles.

"Hush you little thing." She spat, and flattened her ears. She slanted forward, pulling her weight upon her shoulder and letting it fall on a foreleg. "What do you think you are doing?" She snapped, the small dots above her eyes pushing closer together. There. She looked pretty angry- and mean. Certainly that would be enough to scare it off.

...In theory, anyways.

It had been something like two months since he and his mate led their pack down here to their South-bound haven. Two peaceful months, when overlooking the visit from Garaa's sister ((which is an RP still in progress,)). Hige and Loki had quickly taken to Tatiana like a daughter, which shouldn't have been surprising since she seemed to take a liking to the two from the very start. Calico and Ikkume were settling in now, and Tsume was off on a visit to the freelands. Hige couldn't blame him, he'd been a lone wolf wandering when they met, and sometimes that restless spirit needed an outlet.

Incidentally, Tatiana's restlessness didn't go unnoticed to Hige. He'd promised to take her to the freelands, and felt guilty for the delay, but his last visit there had stretched into a week and some days, making him a little more eager to spend some time with the pack and make sure that things were alright, especially his mate. The two alphas seemed to have a heaping amount of things to do on their plate, and he wanted to try to figure out what was up next before taking off on another trip.

Right now, though, the alpha was feeling a bit snarky and none too pleased. He'd just picked up on a stranger's scent in his lands, which might not have been so disturbing if it weren't for his adopted daughter's scent being there as well. That, and the traces of aggression carried in the outsider's. After the incident with Garaa's sister in their lands the male was not about to have any other wolves thinking they could trudge into clearly marked territory and start pissing on everyone there, especially his mate, daughter, or brother.

The mountain-male was already approaching the two females from downwind by the time the "little thing" reference was made. Hige gave a deep warning growl, fur slightly bristled and tail raised to show that not only had Kirra better back down, but she'd better watch herself less she end up with an angry alpha on her heels.

"Is there some business you have in our lands, stranger, or are you just plain lookin' for some trouble?"

He didn't stop his approach until he was at Tatiana's side, actually moving a bit in front of her, head at a moderate level so as not to present his throat on a silver platter. It was always better to play it self and show rank later, rather tha stick your neck out. What good would pride do if you were dead, after all?

Tatiana's form was somewhat dwarfed behind him, as he didn't give her much choice in the matter.

The growing vibration in her throat became more intense. Little thing? She was far from being little anymore, true when she was a pup she would not dream of approaching an adult wolf on such terms., but this wolf was within her father's territory and she was not going to step down. Maybe doing something about the intruder would prove to her father that she was ready to venture out of the packlands and visit the freelands she had so longed to see.
Hackles raised, Tat bared her canines more threatening but could do little more as her fathers scent flitted in the air before his form appeared, moving to stand ahead of her. Tat was none too pleased with her father's appearance. Her plans would once again be put on hold, and to think she was so close to the boundaries.
Well, plans set aside Tat focused her attention back to the intruder. Should this fatal decide to be idiotic and attack she would be there to back up her father should he need it. Little scared Tatiana and this femme was far from striking fear in the teen.

Had Hige been more preoccupied with Tatiana instead of watching the female, perhaps he would have noticed the annoyance his foster daughter briefly showed. His concern was with Kirra at this moment, however. The she-wolf didn't seem to be sure if she should stay or go, which served to put him just faintly at ease. If she was uncertain it meant she might just have wandered into their lands. Still, it seemed odd since they rarely got visitors this far from the freelands, and usually those visitors stayed away from the borders that he felt were clearly marked.

He snuffed loudly, raising his head some, but not too high yet either. Hige wasn't a boastful alpha. If he'd learned nothing else (which he actually did, he learned quite a bit) from Devvyl and Selia and their experiences with a certain other, it was that a diplomatic approach was wise, though not always effecient. Still, his voice did loose a bit of it's bite, enough to sound wary but not guarded. Hige's ears twitched in Tatti's direction briefly, but then straightened again now.

His eyes narrowed slightly, taking in the apperance and physical fitness of the other female. She wouldn't be a threat, not to him, and certainly not to both if the need to fight arose. He didn't want to make the situation more tense than need be, so he cut to the next question on his mind quickly. "Why were you talking to my daughter in such a tone? Did you miss the borders marking this land from the open territory?"

Not all of their pack members were so open for talking. Tsume or Thayne would probably have been motivated more to act first and question later, or perhaps to act, AND question. Yet, despite the blunt-edge of the words his tone did suggest that he expected an honest answer for an honest question.

((Daddy is a weeeeeeee bit too protective there. XD))

Blue orbs watched the scene in front of her, taking notes on her father was dealing with the situation that had arose. As the femme insinuated that Tat had started the trouble that the intruders had beset upon herself, a soft growl escaped Tat but as her father's ears flicked in her direction she quickly quelled her vocal chords. As much as she prided in the way her adoptive father was dealing witht he situation she did not care for the way Hige was protecting her. Tat felt she could keep her own fine without him having to guard her. She was not a little pup anymore and didn't want to be treated as such.

Now was not the time for such petty anger though. This she-wolf didn't seem to be darting off though hesitation between staying and fleeing was aparaent. Maybe this intruder wasn't all as dumb-headed as Tat had previously thought, but wouldn't she just LEAVE so Tat could go on her merry way... wait... couldn't this fatal show Tat the way to the freelands? Now there was an idea, but with Hige around that brainstorm would prove useless.

The slightly laxing attitude of the male did nothing to ease the nerves of the female. Her head sunk down a little, but with her size it could have merely been disregarded as a change of position, rather then a consent to defeat. If she was a more socially adjusted wolf, it would be now that she would make her move to dismiss herself from their presence. But she was not, and she felt burned into that ground.

So the white She was this wolf's daughter? She could not pull a resembling connection between the two, but then again she had looked nothing like her parents. It was not good on her part to be stuck like this, and if this wolf had pups it was more then likely he was the leader of these parts. Which rolled for more bad luck. Kirra expected herself to be far more used to this sort of dilemma.

Her head throbbed, and she took another step backward. Hopefully in the right direction, but judging by where the two had appeared from, it felt best to head to the east. But despite her slow movements, she still could not uproot herself and truly move more then a millimeters at a time. The black and tan beast snorted slightly and licked her lips out of frustration. She was beginning to feel the twinge of angry muscles in her muzzle remind her that they preferred not to be so crinkled and steadfast.

And despite all of this, she still could not give a straight answer. It wasn't in her nature to do so, and whatever strangled and stubborn portion of pride burned it so that she agitated the situation when all would have been better to fall to her belly and slink away. "I speak only in the tone I received." She muttered hoarsely, but it was hard to tell if nervous behavior made the voice hoarse, or if it was always as such. "And as to your borders, I know nothing of them." She bristled, while another portion of her continued the wild panic process.

She swallowed a slow gulp of air, and snorted it out carefully, and rose her left ear to catch any noises behind her. There were none, and it flattened almost as quickly as it has sprung up, twisting once to a portion of orange fur, and down once more. Her eyes fell to the She inadvertently, who was no looking at her peculiarly. She didn't understand the look, and it made her more distraught and worn.

Hige sighed at the female's continued fear, it was all he could do not to snort. He leveled out his tone before attempting to address her.

"Alright. No harm is going to come to you while you're here, so you can relax."

With that he dropped his own defensive stance, looking to Tatiana. Only spoke with the tone she'd recieved, huh? Well, he wasn't mad at Tatti, she was probably only protecting the pack lands, in fact he felt a bit proud but wasn't sure if he should express that just yet. Only after Kirra had prooven not to be a threat did he move from in front of the leopard pelted wolf, moving round to her side instead.

"What brought you this far South? The land ends not much farther from here, you know."

((I'm sorry I took so long guys, I had a serious brain failure! gonk Brain is up and functioning again though!))

The wolf flinched, almost as if a reassurance from harm was almost as fatal as a death warrant. Kirra did stop her steady backing up process, but kept her tail flanked between her legs and her ears cocked at the side of her face. Because she was a large wolf, she managed to keep her eyes fairly level without needing to raise her head much, so her head remained at a lowered angle. So these wolves ment her no harm?... Well, she had heard that many times in her five years.

But the addition to the male wolf's comment of reassurance struck her attention. What did he mean, the land ended? Her ears curved upwards, and carefully she adjusted her stance so her hoarse voice could pull from her throat without strain. "I was following the voles." She uttered quickly, and then continued; "Ends...?" How could it end? She'd never heard of such a thing. But...maybe... she supposed all things ended... but the land?

She was a wolf who had traveled much in her life. Yet this was quite hard for her to wrap her mind around. She had certainly not thought the land would end in such a place. Her mind flickered back to earlier before in the day, dashing away from Harle and then running into that peculiar wolf Alex...and now the end? She swallowed. It did smell strange here...but she hadn't given it much thought. Apparently just about as much thought she had given this wolf's boundaries, which she could not believe she had inadvertently ignored for the sake of some voles.

Hige was having an odd time understanding Kirra, so to say. She didn't seem to take to his reassurances, making him wonder just what kind of a life she'd had before ending up here. It made him almost regret coming in so harsh, but, not quite. It was to be expected, he was protective of his family, all of them.

Hige nodded his massive head in confirmation to what had been said. "Yes, it ends, well, not really I guess but the waters of the sea covers the ground from the beach and on. There is no land on the other side that we've been able to tell."
PostPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2005 6:21 am

Kirra flanked her ear, and glanced in the opposite direction of the two wolves. Did it end in that direction? She shifted her jaw, and carefully rose her head, her neck craning to take in more of the stinging smell. She hadn't yet connected the salt in the air to the end of the land, but mentally this possible relationship was quietly forming in the back of her mind.

"The sea?" She uttered, and twisted one of her ears. Now that was peculiar. She had heard of the sea only once before, and it had been out of the mouth of a wolf she hadn't believed knew much about anything. And she'd certainly never heard that water was involved with this 'sea'. She'd always pictured a flat land. But this...?

"...is it a flood?" The black and tan wolf added, her head tilting to the side, but her eyes still fixed on one portion of trees.
