hmmm I have some questions..... what about women in the halls of valhalla? valhalla is the place where great warriors are brought to when they die in a fight..... and what about today? are there no more new warriors in valhalla today? there are no more vikings or saxons with axes or swords who fight in that brave, old way....... how can a person today join valhalla?

win a war single handedly with your bare hands razz

There's more than one way to fight.
Valhöll is where the best warriors come to upon their death. Those that are good enough to fight side by side with the gods. Perhaps in this day and age the gods are willing to settle for the warriors dying by other means than battle? After all, the times do change..

There are still warriors in the world who can fight with other means then guns and bombs, and lots still do die in battle. My question is how many are actually Norse pagans. Real question comes down to what is considered a battle death. Is a gun shot battle death? Is drowning from a bullet wound in the lung battle or drowning? Could take mins could take weeks.

the battlefields changed, but the mark of the warrior is still here. a warrior doesn't necessarily means he has to go with battle. a warrior can be someone just fights to make wrong things right. A warrior is one that goes to the extremely of hurting himself in some way (physically or not) to help a comrade.

I hope to live and die bravely so that I may go to Valhalla, but i believe that should I go to Hel I will have the options of being reborn or to rest peacefully there.

Freyas hall where the unwed women go when they die.

I wonder where you read that.
Freya's halls have a lot more diversity than that.

To be honest, I don't really care where I end up. But apparently Freya likes artists, so I'll probably end up with her. xd

I don't think I want to end up in Valholl. I can be mean and aggressive and I love a good fight, but that doesn't mean I'd think I'd enjoy it there.

I'm perfectly content in going to Hel's hall.

If I could go to any other deity's hall...I think I'd like to go be with Frigg.

I've been curious about this too. I asked about it in another thread before seeing it here actually. Really don't care for the idea that Valhalla has become obsolete with modern day. I prefer thinking that the gods evolve with their people, thus while we may not be warriors in the same sense, we still have the ability to prove ourselves worthy by other means. Personally though, I'm not so keen on the thought of an afterlife in general. The knowledge that death is a natural state of peace is comforting to me, I don't need to look for alternatives elsewhere. But, if there is an afterlife, I'd like it to be a preferred one. sweatdrop

If my soul ends up in Helheim, maybe I can convince the Bone Goddess to put me on the Welcoming Committee. All those years of playing a monster at Knott's Berry Farm's Halloween Haunt really should amount for something...
Either that, or I can quote from Paint Your Wagon when the Christians show up:

"Howdy, Reverend! Welcome to Hel!"

I'd like to settle in at Gladsheim and be a runner for my Old Man so I can poke into everything, but I'd no idea how probable that is. I would not object to going to Hel.

A lot of you talk about Hel like it's a bad deal. It's not like it's the Christian hell with horrid flames and little red men poking people with pitchforks. In my opinion Hel is just a place where spirits go to rest maybe a bit like heaven.
