Retin-A is Tretinoin. It is a topical cream for acne, both whiteheads and blackheads.
Retin-A makes some of the superficial layers of your skin slough off, thus promoting new skin growth. When it does that it helps acne by helping to extrude the plugged material in follicles. It comes in different strengths. But the best is probably prescibed by a doctor, although maybe in Canada you can get it over the counter in effective strengths, I don't know.
But it still takes weeks for the effects to show up (though I have Retin-A and when I use it my skin starts to flake after about 4 days).
If you use it, do not peel the skin when it flakes. Just bear with it and let it flake off naturally.

Well, I'll give the products I have now a shot...clay mask, and daily exfoliant. I've been pretty good about using them, too! And my face has gotten a bit better...so maybe over time...

I hate zits, they really suck. Thank god I don't get them very often.
Ethan, sounds like what you have is starting to work so that is great.
