Now, I have noticed the large uprise of Japanese animation that have contained many amounts of Catholic settings, and would like to know if people thinking Japanese animations are just trying to show off our religion as, "dark" or "Gothic" is true, or if they're only putting these Catholic themed shows up as fictional work.
I would also like to question the violent themes, when violent actions are not wanted within the Catholic Church itself.
Some expamples include:
-D.Gray-Man (Which I am a fan of.)
-Trinity Blood (Which a distant cousin of mine is also a fan of.)

Japanese see Catholicism as more of a myth, and they use myths heavily in their Anime. There are several outrageous stories out there involving Catholicism, and some of them are indeed violent. Such stories, though they are indeed mistruths, are utilized as myths by the Japanese in order to tell an entertaining story.

The major religion in that country is Buddhism, and for the most part, they know very little about Catholicism other than mistruths brought overseas by whomever.

There is, however, some Catholic schools there that have been spreading the Word there, and a few Anime is based on these schools. Maria-sama ga Miteru is one of them. The title of the Anime translates to: The Virgin Mary is Watching. And the story takes place at an all girl Catholic school. Also, there is a neighboring all guy Catholic school as well. This story is fairly close to the Truth in regards to the Catholic Teachings, but then the most it goes into it is what little it says about the Virgin Mary.

Not all Anime with Catholicism in it is violent, but the ones that are happen to be based on the mistruth stories that have traveled overseas. Do the Japanese believe these stories to be true? Based upon my penpals there, they do not. But I am sure there are a few that may, but then there's people like that everywhere.

Based upon what I have seen, I would not say the Japanese are trying to show our religion as "dark" or "gothic" for anime like Maria-sama ga miteru show the light and pure side of Catholicism.

I think for the most part that Japanese animation is fictional work, and they utilize a great many myths, legends, and fairy tales of all sorts in order to tell an entertaining story. Catholicism just happens to be one of the legends and tales that they utilize.

It would be nice to have an Anime that shows the Catholic Church truthfully and wholesomely, but that would be asking much from a country that is predominantly Buddhist. Much of the anime creators may not know enough to attempt such an endeavor.

I too would like to see a well done anime showing the truths of Catholicism as well, but with so many people thinking it is more of a myth than a religion, it is true to say that it could take time before such a thing happens.
Oh, and I'd like to ask a question...
...My friends and I are thinking of doing a D.Gray-Man cosplay photoshoot in a church, but I'd like to know what good poses that are allowed in the church itself are acceptable.
And if it's okay to do so.
We're looking for that action type of thing, but the costumes usually have a weapon, so I'd like to know what we could use.

Which, in all fairness, is how most Western countries portray many Eastern religions in various forms of popular entertainment.

Also, has anyone heard of The Count of St. Germain?
They actually based the villain of D.Gray-Man upon his apparent legend.
His ways of driving people's tortured souls into machines, that slaughter people scares me, but my faith in God remains high.

Very true, my friend.

But then there is a great ignorance of other people's cultures and religions in the world... and the Western countries are just as guilty as countries like Japan.

But then Anime and other forms of entertainment aren't really made to induce great thoughts. They're mostly made to entertain.

Though, I can say, many Earth documentaries are somewhat made to inform the general public, correct?

Hence my use of the term "popular entertainment." Generally things that are popular do not provoke deep thought, pathetic as that is.

Okay, now I'm going to bed for real. I swear.

Berserk is awesome *w*

yes I know, hate me later, lol.

It uses some 'catholic ish themes' ,
however, if you studied our history,
its easy to tell the difference.

and, unless you get to volume 18 or something,
you won't know what I'm talking about. X3

I haven't really known all that much about the anime and manga "Berserk", but I didn't expect that in it at all.

Well, I've heard great reviews about it, but I'll probably only read the manga since I'm a bit of a reader myself.
