This was the last time she'd let herself wander, unchecked and with her head completely in the clouds, around Numa Numa Land. Diana sat beneath the shade of a gumdrop tree, looking very annoyed, some place in the middle of nowhere. Or, at least, what she thought was the middle of nowhere. Her surroundings were utterly unfamiliar to her, which was probably the most frightening thought she'd ever experienced. A little, panicked heart beat wildly within the confines of her chest. The female Numa couldn't believe she'd let herself get lost. It wasn't like her. Sure, she liked dancing under the moon and climbing jello mountains, but the was besides the point. Diana was usually very aware of herself. Her attention span rarely left her alone long enough for something like this to happen. So, how had it? She wished she knew.

"Oh, it's only a paper moon~"
Twilight was practically skipping along, carrying a candied apple in each paw, and singing merrily every few tiny bites. He didn't have babysitting duty that night, and decided that he could use a romp. He'd chased some gummy fish, picked a few apples, and practiced his diving. Now, as the day drew to a close, he was content to wander under the stars.
"Sailing over a cardboard sea!"
It was a lazy sort of evening. Not many people about... so he was surprised to hear a rustling behind him. Someone there? Unlikely, but still he lowered the apple that he was eating and looked around. While he kept singing, he lowered his voice.
"But it wouldn't be make-believe if you... believed in... hello?"

Was that... ?
No, it couldn't be.
... somebody was singing?
Diana's eyes widened in surprise. The day was coming to a close and the night, as wonderful and quiet as ever, had just started it's turn in the sky. She hadn't expected anybody to be out.
Not that she was complaining. It was a relief to know that she wouldn't have to spend the entire night lost and alone. Usually, the female Numa liked to bask in the darkness, but, she thought that it might be a bit different in such an unfamiliar setting. There was no telling what those eventual and inevitable creaks, bumps or chirps might be.
Her initial feelings at this other Numa's arrival were happiness and gratitude. She had to stop herself from calling out to him, loud and desperate for some company in this strange place.
Somehow, she managed to keep her voice calm and neutral, "Hello? Was that you I heard just a moment ago? Singing?"

There was someone there! Lighting up with a grin, Twilight looked around? Where was the voice coming from? It was close, so perhaps it was under something, or on top of something... or behind something? Quickly, he started to look around and in the trees nearby, singing softly as he did so.
"Yes, it's only a canvas sky, hanging over a muslin tree..."
After several misses, Twlight was starting to think that he'd hallucinated the voice. Was he lonely? Perhaps, but it would be the first time he was THAT lonely. Frowning, he looked behind one last tree... and spotted a gray Numa, a girl, sitting beneath.
Extending his paw in greeting, he bent to sit on the grass as well. "But it wouldn't be make-believe," he sang, "if you believed in me." Then he coughed, scratched the back of his head sheepishly, and continued in his normal muffled voice. "Something bothering you, lovely? I hope my singing didn't disturb you."

The lack of immediate response set the female Numa on edge. For a couple of terrified moments, in which Diana had begun to worry that the other, singing voice was just a figment of her imagination, she just sat there. What if she was going crazy?
The thought was too much to bear. She was already lost. How was she ever going to find her way back to the comforting and the familiar if she was losing her mind?
Diana nearly jumped out of her own skin when the voice picked up again, in the same tune. No, she was sure that she hadn't imagined it. Who did this unknown voice belong to? The fur all along her back, from her neck to her tail, stood on end as she waited for the seemingly bodiless voice to stop it's eerie noise.
Then, all at once, he was there- right in front of her, and surprisingly charming. Diana smiled, glad that she could finally see him, and extended her paw in the same manner he did.
"It didn't disturb me at all," she lied and smiled, kindly at him, "I'm just glad that I'm not the only one out and about tonight."
She wondered if he could tell her where she was.

Twilight laughed and shook his head. "You'd be surprised how many of us like to come out after dark," he said lightly. "I was. Though I admit, I've never seen you around these parts before."
Now that he thought about it, he wasn't entirely sure he'd seen "these parts" around either. Maybe he'd strayed a bit too far from his usual path, but it didn't bother him too much. If he'd found his way there, it stood to reason that he'd find his way back eventually. It wasn't as though he had anything better to do.
"I'm glad you didn't mind the singing," he admitted. "It's something new I'm trying- I'm more of a dancer really." At that, he bowed jokingly while still sitting. "In any event... it's a pleasure, miss...?"

"My name is Diana," she said conversationally, with an energetic flick of her tail. Somehow, the idea of spending the rest of the night there didn't seem so terrible now that she had company. Even if he was a stranger. It didn't matter. If he was willing to wait there with her, or help her find her way back home later, the female Numa didn't have a problem waiting for the sun to return to the sky. It would be easier to find her path again in the daylight.
"You have a lovely voice," she informed him casually, like it was a fact. A mixture of surprise and delight flashed in her violet eyes when he mentioned the he liked to dance. That was one of her favorite hobbies. Until now, she'd never met another Numa who'd be as intrigued by it as she was.
"I'm not from around here," Diana explained softly and gestured at the trees with her front paws. A pink flush crept into her cheeks. She didn't want to admit it, but, how else would she find out whether or not he could help her?
"I'm lost, actually."
There; it was out. Diana hoped he wouldn't make a big deal of it. Her pride had already recieved a significant blow. She didn't need to be reminded of her mistake anymore than was necessary.

Rolling onto his stomach, upon hearing the compliments Twilight almost jumped to his feet again. "You really think so?" he asked excitedly. He didn't think he was that good, but he hadn't gotten any second opinions before. But if she thought he was good, that meant he couldn't be bad. "In that case, I'm glad!"
He sat back down again, rocking back and forth a bit. Not from around here? Well, neither was he. Apparently, they had more in common than a fondness for nighttime. "Lost? Well..." he murmured, then smiled brightly. "I guess we're in the same boat then! I'm not exactly sure where this is myself."
For someone who was supposedly lost, he looked awfully cheerful. But to Twilight, getting lost wasn't a bad thing- merely the start of a new adventure. And on this one, he'd already met a charming lady. What could be better? There were a few things, but not many, and besides, it did no good to dwell. The adventure was beginning!

A wave of dissapointment washed over Diana when she heard that he was in the same hopeless situation as she was. The female had hoped that he might be able to point her in the right direction some time later that night. After they'd had time to talk and get to know each other, of course.
She was finding this quirky male's charming personality to be a pleasant and very welcome distraction from her current predicament. It was nice, and honestly a little bit freaky, to see him so calm about something that could have been so disastrous. His care-free attiude had, actually, convinced her to re-evaluate her earlier judgements. Perhaps being lost wasn't so terrible, after all, especially with the added bonus of pleasant company.
"Your voice is quite nice," she smiled at him like she hadn't smiled the entire night; dazzling and wide in the moonlight, "What should I call you?"

"Ah!" He'd asked for her name, and never given his in return. "I'm sorry! My name's Twilight." His gaze went briefly skyward, then back, and he winked. "Sort of makes sense that the likes of me wander around at night now, doesn't it?" To him, it all made sense. But he could see signs that the female liked the night as well.
Leaning towards her, he brushed a bit of her hair back to see the golden crescent that had been partially obscured. "So you're a moonie, eh? The moon and the stars... now isn't that ironic?" he asked, sitting back again. "Or maybe it's fate."

"Twilight's a wonderful name," she purred softly. His relaxed nature and simple logic were surprisingly contagious. Suddenly, she was very glad she'd gotten lost. Twilight, she knew, would make a very good future companion and friend. She wanted to get to know him better, wanted to let him get to know her better. There was something fascinating about the other Numa; a slightly mysterious and unpredictable aura hung over him like a cloud.
At his words, Diana's violet eyes honed in on the star markings dotted on his face and other, various parts of his body. She hadn't noticed those before.
"Fate likes to play strange games," her tone was light and playful, but a pink tinge had crept, unbidden, into her adorably furry cheeks, "Maybe it's a simple coincidence?"

Grinning, Twilight swished his tail back and forth in the grass. "Thank you! Diana is quite pretty as well." It had something to do with the moon, he remembered, but couldn't recall the specifics. History had never been one of his strong points. "And if it's a coincidence, it's a lucky one."
With that, he got up and looked around. "I'm not sure where this is," he said, "but I wouldn't mind finding out. Unless you'd rather stay here, that is." He hoped she wouldn't. There were things out there to find, places to be explored! And what better way than with a fellow spelunker?

It was the first compliment she'd recieved in awhile. A smile lit up Diana's face, shadowed by a prominent red blush. She liked him. Very much. Confused and flustered, because she'd never taken to another Numa so quickly before, Diana could only nod in reply.
The pretty female considered his suggestion carefully. If she said no, would he leave without her? It wasn't a particularly pressing question. Diana had absolutely no intention of denying his lust for adventure. She wouldn't have minded one, either. They had the entire night at their feet! There was no telling what kind of things might occur.
"No," she shook her head gently, stood up and squinted into the darkness of the trees that surrounded them, "Which way do you think we should go?"
Plus, there was always the chance that she might stumble upon the path back home.

When she smiled, Twilight smiled more as well- difficult, since his cheeks were starting to hurt already. But he couldn't help it; being with a charming young lady was always a pleasure, and even more of one when she smiled too.
When she agreed, he bounced on his feet excitedly. "Excellent! I'm not sure, really... but I came from that direction, so maybe we should go that way?" Though that was boring, backtracking. "Or we could always just mark this tree and forge ahead."
Who knew what lay past the confines of the gumdrop grove? Twilight didn't, but part of him was itching to find out.

His excitement fueled her own. It was so hard to believe that, just moments ago, this particular, beaming female Numa had been experiencing feelings of anxiety. There was no sign of those earlier emotions. Instead, Diana both looked and felt ready for anything life decided to throw at her.
She had made a delightful new companion, whom, she felt, nothing bad could possibly ever happen to. Twilight was too dazzling and sweet for something like that. If she stuck with him, wouldn't his natural grace and lack of fear rub off on her?
It was entirely possible. Likely, even. Diana was already begining to feel the effects of his presence there. She felt safer. Which, unfortunately, meant that she was a hell of a lot more daring than she would have been otherwise- if she had been alone.
"Let's go some place farther that way," she gestured in the direction opposite from which he had come, without really pausing to think about the consequences their little adventure might have.
