I just got mine donated by a completely random person who saw my quest bar. He said he never used them, and now, I can see why. They may be one of the most disappointing items.

And yet still incredibly sought after.
Eh, they go well with Yokai's Treasure and a straw hat. ^_^

You've come so far from innocence, provided all the consequence... Ever since adding the tax, many items have gone up in price at a fairly steady rate. My Chyaku Norisu Scarf went up a good 15k in a matter of days, and it usually goes up about 20k in a month. It was 94k-ish before, and now it's 109k. The Oculus Magica went up 1% daily, and I see very few minus signs in there. I think there's definitely a correlation there. It's ridiculous.
...only what does it matter now?

Actually the Oculus Magica's price has not been at all affected by the announcement of the tax. Few people bought it during that month, so supply is low. This will inherently bring about a steady increase in price.
[Edit] Or, as today with the high number of listings in the marketplace, the price will fall.

I had a quick look at the prices of the Aquatica on the two markets. (you can't sell items on the old one anymore) There wasn't a huge price difference, but the cheapest Aquatica on the old marketplace was less than the cheapest on the new one.

Why do people like it so much? Nothing very amazing about it.

using namespace std; int main () { It's uncommon and makes people feel special.
It is admittedly a rather dull item though...return 0; }

There's only a select number of items it goes with. Some of the variations are just plain hideous (and comes with that damn green glitch), though.

I tend to use the oculus a lot actually.
I think the reason it's sought after so much is the fact that it's the only item that can change the eyes, otherwise your stuck with that one plain style of eye you chose in the beginning. (This is excluding zombiefication, Vamprification and Alienification... All words I just made up)
So because it's the only item that can do it, consequently it means that people will want it to try it.
Not to mention people who want a certain type of avatar example: Gaara fanboys/girls will want the eyes because the first set of eyes resemble that of Gaara's or Girl glamorous eyes there are a few that can be used.
I think it's a good item IF you know how to use it properly. Unlike more of the other items that were released back in 07....
