Here's my story: When I was around 2, I was told I had autism. Then this doctor came along, and said that new research showed autism may be a neuroimmune disease called NIDS, and autism may actually not exist. He said that by regulating your immune system the "autism" would go away. So I was put on a bunch of meds that do nothing on their own (a herpes med, an anti-depressant, strep meds, etc.) and put on a diet restriction of no dairy, and that somehow "cured" me of autism. I have to get bloodtests every 2 months; and they made me go to therapy all the time. I still act like a typical autistic kid a lot; just erratic, and retreating into my head. Problem was, my parents never told me what the meds were for. I figured it out from the internet. They figured they didnt hafta tell me since I'm "normal" now. They said I was allergic to dairy when it was a diet restriction, and told me I had delayed learning when I was young, when really I lost a year of my life to the "autism", and had to relearn things. It just kinda sucks. The meds make me feel like crap all the time. And blootests scare the s**t out of me. They hold me down. And I started therapy when I was 6 cause they forced me, and they monitored me in therapy, so my parents saw everything. I think my doctor is whacko, but my parents don't listen to what I have to say about my health, and they think I don't know about NIDS. There's a website about NIDS somewhere, and a bunch of speeches my doctor made are on the internet as well. I just think my entire situation is kinda screwed-up, and would like some feedback.

I would be upset too in your situation. It sounds to me as if what really needs to happen is an open and honest discussion between you and your parents about your condition, treatment, and how you both feel about it. I'd love to hear about what happens, and I wish you the best of luck. 3nodding

Oh! Tell me about how the diet went. My mom's always trying to put me on that no dairy no gluten diet. Did it do anything for you?
