Backspace Nerdcore Con Kickoff Party
When: Thursday, August 30, 2007, 20:00 to 23:59
Details:
Kumoricon and Backspace have teamed up to put on a special party the Thursday night before the con!
Backspace, Portland's entertainment hub, presents a night of nerdcore, with performances by three local artists featuring techno and hip hop set to otaku and Japanese themes. While there, check out previews of Kumoricon content playing on a large screen along with open Wii gaming—plus the usual LAN gaming and cafe at Backspace.
As a special incentive, we're offering one last opportunity to pre-register for Kumoricon. From 8:00pm to 10:00pm only at this party, you can pre-register for a weekend membership at Kumoricon for the $35 price.
Ultraklystron (Karl Rolson)
Featuring Ultraklystron (Karl Rolson) (web) "a musician, a programmer and animation website moderator/staff writer. Musically, I focus on Nerdcore HipHop, though I used to be a Drum n' Bass/Minimal Techno/Ambient fiend, and before that I was a little wannabe alt-rock kid (thankfully, I'm not so cruel as to inflict the demo I cut when I was 10 on the world... atleast not yet.) I'm still learning to be a good programmer (I'm aiming for a Comp Sci degree wink however I’ve been playing with web design and programming for over a decade now, and yes, it makes me feel a little old to say that. I ended up at Toon Zone, an animation news and discussion site because I'm an intense anime and manga fan, though I love animation of any sort as long as it has some good to offer (story, jokes, high production values.)"
Rai
"Rai Kamishiro [web] is a Nerdcore Hip-hop artist who has released two songs on the Rhyme Torrents compilations, both in Japanese. Working out of Seattle, Washington, her producer is fellow Nerdcore artist Ultraklystron. Her first album is expected soon."
Gradual Meltdown
Gradual Meltdown (web) features Wii-mote/Guitar Hero-controlled techno, with "Thick beats to poke the feet of too-much-stand-still no dance voyeurs. Tongues in light sockets drinking the greasy transmissions and vibrations from other galaxies... served up for you live—on a plate, on a dance floor, in your bedroom, in your head..."
This event is open to the public and has free admission! Kick off Kumoricon early at this special party. For con staff who will be showing up for prep on Friday, this party is the perfect gathering the night before. We'll see you there!
