I just would like to bring up this, been thinking about it a little.
Fear, why do we fear? Sometimes, we overcome fear to achieve something..If both are instinctual, why do we not overcome fear to begin with? domokun
Another question, what do you fear, and why do YOU think you do? cool
Nothing, that when there is literally nothing, no anything. Nothing, where there simply is nothing, no emotion no world , no universe, just nothing. That emptiness, how it would feel to be or be in Nothing. Nothing is what I fear. I fear Nothing. ninja
[ EDIT ] ever heard the term "Face your fears"? do you think its a good thing, or a bad thing? are there some fears that we just can't face up to?

I fear of heights, pain, and sumtimes death, and seeing my friends and family die.....Those are my fears....I guess our fears, r just imotions, that screws up the brain, thus, making us scared....But, i realized, if im scared of sumthing, and I freeze up, sumtimes i use Pain to get rid of the fear for a minute...Pain is much more, i mean, u can feel it....i pinch myself or hit my stomach or sumthing.....ionono...Fear sux....

many people regard fear as a sign of weakness, but to leave it at that allows vast misunderstanding. i would reword that to say that fear is a symptom of underdeveloped skills, or an accumulation of unconscious energy. i would also like to add any weakness is an underdeveloped strength. my martial arts teacher has many times reminded us to "follow your fears and they will lead to to your misunderstandings" in regards to that 'face your fears' would be good advice.
another thing to mention is that there are two types of fear. there is the purely animal fear which is a reaction to perceived danger, it involves chemical chain of events in your brain particularly the amygdala. this is what is called the fight or flight reaction. the other fear is psychological your mind, your thoughts are working against you consciously or unconsciously and create the same reaction yet there is no fight or flight outlet for that tension, when adrenaline floods your system it puts more stress on your body unless you let that energy into a productive activity. so for an example of the two, if you are walking down the street and a wild stray dog snarls and barks wildly at you your body prepares to fight or flee. now if you are sitting on your couch and think of the dog, that same event the same reaction can occur but you are sitting and the physical reation actually can produce negative effects on the body, especially when you think of how often you can have that reaction without an outlet.
good day

some would say fear is useless because it prevents us from doing things, some would say it is useful because it warns us of danger and can stop us doing stupid things, some even view it as a challenge that must be overcome to achieve what is on the other side.
But their is also the belief, coming back to what i talk about a lot, that fear is existent because it is the opposite to love and without fear we could not know love, or at least, know it as love/experience ourselves as feeling love. A lot of people say you know, a lot of things have nothing to do with fear or love, but the idea is that fear and love are the root/sub emotions behind all emotions, or most.
"Fear is the energy which contracts, closes down, draws in, runs, hides, hoards, harms. Love is the energy which expands, opens up, sends out, stays, reveals, shares, heals. Fear wraps our bodies in clothing, love allows us to stand naked. Fear clings to and clutches all that we have, love gives all that we have away. Fear holds close, love holds dear. Fear grasps, love lets go. Fear rankles, love soothes. Fear attacks, love amends."

Fear is a great source of adrenaline before exams biggrin it gives you a lot of power 3nodding
I'm not scared that often, but I fear a lot about many things... Fear is something I feel quite long, but being scared is short and it always comes from the outside. Fear is more... within me. That's what I think... It might sound a bit strange, because I don't know how to put it in english. In my mother language (polish) there are two words "strach"("obawa") which is like fear in english (to me) and "przerazenie" which is more like being scared... Forgive me for this smile

My fears are allways displayed in my dreams, along with what I was focused on that day. If I spent all day playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, then I'll dream about it, and it will be combined with my fear. For example, if there was a girl named Lamarashelderamda( a fine example name) who lived next door to me, and I had a crush on her, but I was afraid she was going to move away before I could tell her, then I would probably dream I was an oblivion char, playing normally, then she joins my team, and she dies, or maby she leaves and I die. If I was currently worrying about a test, I would dream I was a powerfull mage, in the mages guild, just waiting to be admitted to the arcain academy( similar to state alchemist title, to you fma fans), but then I failed. However, if I'd had a perfect day, i would prob dream I was a powerfull mage, who got into the arcain university in one month, then in one year learned every spell, and started to make his own spells and enchanted armor, then raised in the ranks and become arch mage, and just when I was about to become arch mage, my mom would prob wake me up.
