If you are looking for an almost impossible challenge, a game that will take you weeks to complete, even though the real play time you need to beat it is around two hours, then here's what you need:

Directly from the Wikipedia page (which is a pretty good source of info on that game.)

Jet Set Willy is a computer game for the ZX Spectrum home computer. Its release in 1984 was concurrent with the height of the Spectrum's popularity in the early 1980s.

It was written by Matthew Smith, hailed at the time as a games-writing genius. Smith later moved to the Netherlands and, since his whereabouts were widely unknown, he was largely thought to have "vanished" until he returned to the UK in the late 1990s. He has since appeared on a TV programme (Thumb Candy) to discuss his early games and has attended several retrogaming conventions.

The game is a sequel to Manic Miner (1983), and is the second game in the immensely popular Miner Willy Series. It was a significant development in the platform game genre on the home micro. It was published by Software Projects.

Don't be scared by the year it was made... It's harder and funnier than Super Mario Bros.

And here's a link in case you want to play it:

http://retrospec.sgn.net/game-links.php?link=jsw

Don't worry, it works on any computer that runs Windows 98 or above.

You ask about the plot? Games that are good don't need one! j/k, here's the plot to the game:

A very tired Miner Willy has to tidy up all the items left around his house after a huge party. With this done his housekeeper Maria will allow him access to his bedroom. Willy's mansion house was bought with the wealth obtained from his adventures in Manic Miner but much of it remains unexplored and it appears to be full of strange creatures, possibly a result of the previous (missing) owner's experiments. Willy must explore the enormous mansion and its grounds (including a beach and a yacht) to fully tidy-up the house so he can get some much-needed sleep.

What's the challenge you ask? You're in a mansion packed with strange mutants and moving furniture that kills you on contact, and your only weapons are your wit and your jumps. And both have to be used perfectly if you want to survive. Another challenge? There's no save game option, no checkpoints, no "starting at a different level" codes... It's all you, and the left, right and jump keys.

It may not be the best game ever, but it's the hardest game ever created, and I don't think anyone'll take that from it.

And I'm talking from my own experience... I beat this game several times, but it's still a damn hard challenge I only turn to when I want to get my ego down to the ground. "You call yourself a gamer and you can't beat this old game? Hah!" rofl

EDIT: Changed the title... Tired of seeing "OMG but that's not the best evah!" posted, so yeah... Show me a game harder to beat than this one (after you beat this one,) and I'll mail you a million dollars. ninja

I say the best game ever up to date is Marvel Vs capcom 2

reason: when I ever I go to the arcade I see people playing it and not much people are playing other games anymore. and when I say arcade I'm talking about the arcade in my school and one at the mall (not really a mall but something like it)

Popular doesn't always mean good.

And no fighting game goes along with "best ever" in my mind, because they're so easy to break* it's just not funny.

Basically, fighting games are popular because players are mostly n00bs who go fight other n00bs in arcades and online, and feel like they're special for beating a n00b... They aren't playing the game for the game itself, but because of the ego-boosting value.

It's a lot like how "World of Moneywhorecraft" and "Countersnipe" go, really. The games themselves are s**t easy, and only if you enjoy beating up morons you may find a reason to keep you playing for more than a couple of days.

In my case, I like games that make me use my brain along with my fingers, so I prefer something like RPGs or strategy over other genres. Jet Set Willy just combines platforms with strategy, and even if the character isn't a speedy blue hedgehog or a fire-tossing fatso, the game requires a lot more thinking for one single screen than some strategy games do for the whole game.

*And any gamer should know what breaking a game involves... It doesn't have to do with cheating or hacking, but with finding the weak spot in the game's mechanics and using it to make you godlike. Like Mortal Kombat 1/2/3/4/99's "backwards low flying kick, forwards high flying kick" combo which broke the poor games to pieces.

I played that one... When it was called Chaos Legion.

Or rather, when it was called Castlevania.

Just try the one on the link up there. It is the hardest game ever made, period.

ff6 is the best game ever

Tried the one I link to? It may not be RPG but it leaves Devil May Cry crying, it's the King of Persia, puts the horns in the Halo and you'll crash faster than if you had a Need For Speed with it.

ninja Hardest game ever.

What game is which? King of Persia or Jet Set Willy?

JSW is already explained in my first post, so I don't should explain it.

Now if you don't know about Prince Of Persia...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_of_Persia

It's just the father of all good platformers, along with the Rockman saga. Sonic and Mario are more popular, yes, but PoP and Rockman were the best back then.

And, of course, Jet Set Willy and its prequel, Manic Miner, were sort of the grandfathers of platform games. And just like all grandfathers, they may be cranky and beat you with a wooden stick, but are fun nonetheless.

I haven't beaten Willy, and, frankly, I don't think I ever will. I don't even want to try, after taking a look at it.

BUT!

I wanna be the guy The game! The Movie!
http://kayin.pyoko.org/iwbtg/ is harder. I can't get past the second screen. I got three screens along in Willy.

Hmm... Almost hard enough, yes, but I find it easier to play, actually. First of all, it looks pretty linear, whereas JSW has multiple paths to take, but only two or three routes can be completed "easily."

Also the page mentions the full game's a pretty large file... And then I see it´s only around 70MB. All I can say to that is "hah!"

To each their own. Though I love games, I'm just a slightly above average gamer and platforms of any kind are what I'm worst at. So yeah, no chance of me clearing any of those two games.

And all I can say to that is "whatever" XD

I thinks this is the best for a challenge. I am sick of purple now.
