This is a basic exercise used to communicate with your spirit guide(s). If you are unfamiliar with grounding, aura cleansing, or space cleansing exercises, you may want to wait until you are familiar with them before trying this.

1. Sit in a comfortable position and ground yourself. When you feel that you are in tune with the earth's energy, cleanse your aura and your space to prevent any unwanted presences or energy from disrupting your time with your spirit guides

2. Clear your mind and imagine that you are standing in front of a staircase that leads upward. The staircase doesn't have to be extensively long, but it represents a journey, so don't make it too short, either. Begin your ascent slowly and feel your transgression from this plane to another one, the 'gray plane', so to speak; an area where you and your spirit guide(s) can meet halfway between the planes of the living and the spiritual.

3. At the top of the staircase, there is a door made of white light, representing the entryway into a place of purity. Open the door and enter a room, but make sure to close the door behind you. The room can be any color and have any items in it; whatever makes you the most comfortable.

4. Look for your spirit guide(s). Try not to imagine what they will look like, as this may affect their final appearance (the base of this exercise is in the mind, after all). They will materialize slowly, with each feature defining itself separately. If you have never met your guide(s) before, introduce yourself. You can ask them any questions that you want, even things that you may consider trivial. Spirit guides can provide insightful tips and advice for even the most simple situations.

5. When you are finished, say goodbye to your guide(s) and go back the way you came, closing the door behind you again. Descend the stairs slowly, traveling out of the 'gray plane' and back into this one. When you feel that you are comfortably back in your body, open your eyes slowly and take several deep breaths.
