Io walked on a little further, heading past the first line of trees to the small pond she had seen earlier. She flushed slightly as she realized she was still holding his hand, and let go, dropping down on a large rock next to the water.
Um... I guess we should talk. She said, scooping a small rock off of the ground and tossing it into the water.

((assuming is safe to post, if not delete. Heading to work after this!))
Cern dropped to the ground beside her, making sure his kilt was smooth first. Yeah, that's probably a good idea. You sure you don't want to beat me up a bit first, get it out of your system? There was a chuckle in his voice as he told her that. Breathing deeply, he lay back, hands behind his head. He really had missed her, surely she realized that.
So. Who starts?

I guess I might as well start. Do you remember? What happened before, that is. Before the... curse. She reached up, tugging gently on the mask she was wearing, not really looking at him. You were my... advisor, I guess. At least that's what they called it back then.
She glanced over, the back at the pond.

He should have known this would be the first thing that she'd bring up. I remember a lot of things about before, Io. And everytime one of those thoughts starts to weigh heavy, I try to forget it again. I was a fool then in a lot of ways. He closes his eyes, taking a deep breath. But yeah, I remember being your adviser.

She went silent, thinking over what he had said for a second. I never told you... back then, that is. But I... She stopped, looking away for a second. Back then I... I liked you.
Then she turned, shrugging. But that was then and this is now, right? Maybe this time we can just be... friends. No advisor and princess, just two normal teenagers. A slight smile curved her eyes as she looked at him. I think I stashed a fishing pole or two around here when I was a kid...
She turned, heading for some nearby trees.

You're willing to fish? He pauses, slightly puzzled. There's still fish in this pond? Any moment now, he's going to fall over gibbering because of what she said. She liked him then. Lovely, friggin' great. Except that he likes her now, and she wants to be just friends? Just teenagers? No pushing each other into the water type of rules for this?

I had a rough day and have the urge for a trout dinner. Is that too much to ask? She replied, trying not to sound offended. The fishing thing had been a peace offering, of course. She would much rather stalk and shoot her dinner, but he didn't have to know that.
And I'll only push you in if you do something stupid. She finished, smirking as she pulled out the two old fashioned fishing rods that had been stowed in one of the hollow trees. She wasn't sure they would even work... who knew how long they had been there? When she had said as a child, she had meant as a child before the curse, after all.

Cern stands up and holds out a hand for one of the poles. Trout it is, if there's one we can catch. And if not...I guess I don't mind swimming for one. Although if I do that, you'll have to endure my stink until we get back to the others and I can get some clean clothes on. I've yet to find fishing water that doesn't offend others with the smell.
Okay, that was reaaaaaaally stupid. Stick your foot a little further into your mouth, idiot. She's trying to be nice, and you make wise aleck remarks. Cern shoke his head to clear his thoughts. He touched Io's wrist. I didn't mean that the way it sounded darlin'. REALLY didn't. I've gotten into the habit of not thinking before I open my trap.
Now watch him die for calling her darling.

She almost jerked at the word "Darlin" the image of a smirking Silva flashing into her mind, right before he attacked. There was a fine tremor to her hand before she turned away. Don't call me that... please?
To keep her hands from being noticed she started looking around for some sort of bait. The last thing he needed to find out about was... that...

Oh. Okay, sure. Not that word. Cern scratched the back of his head, squinting his eyes up in thought before turning his attention to the pole. Care to wager that I manage to catch more fish than you?

Ha, like you have a chance. she replied, grateful at how easily he changed the subject. But I'm game for winning. What should we wager?
She had managed to find a worm, grateful that her mask hid the look of disgust on her face as she baited her pole, then swung it over her head, casting it into the water.

I dunno. Personally I have no money, so we can't wager that. He took his shoes off, digging his toes into the dirt. Worm, worm, poke deeper and, yes! Cern bent down and plucked the writher out of its home. Sorry guy, but this is a competition. He winced as he hooked it.
We could wager chores or something. I'm sure I'll have those now that I'm finally back. Stepping away from her a bit, Cern pulled the rod back and cast away, watching the line drift. Or we can be a bit more uh, well, insane.
In fact, I'll wager you any piece of clothes I have that you want against anything of yours I want. He looked at Io from the side of his eyes, hoping his neck wasn't turning red. How are those stakes?

My clothes? For some reason I doubt they would fit you... But heck, why not? It's not like you've got a lot to lose. There was a wicked gleam in her eyes as she looked over his shirt and kilt briefly before turning back to her fishing.
But no losing on purpose. We both know how much you like running around naked.

He flushed a little beneath his mask when he saw that look in her eyes.Yes, but I like winning too. He tugs at the rod to jiggle the line, then looks at the hole he made pulling out the worm. It wasn't a huge leap from there to putting the base of the rod into the hole, securing it with rocks. There was no point in arguing about nudity. Everyone knew that he had run around starkers when he was smaller. Would now if people would stop screaming at him when he did. So, fish often? Or was this just chance?
For no real reason, Cern chuckled, looked over at Io, and chuckled again. If this were one of the romance novels...

Actually, I've always been more of a... hunter then a fisher. Io replied, siding down the rock so her back was against it. She brought up one knee, the other leg in front of her as she rested the rod on her leg.
She looked over at him, a slight grin in her eyes. I've always enjoyed a chase. She would have gone on, but something tugged on her cord, making her blink.
