I am doing a research paper on the importance of the 1916 Easter Rebellion in Dublin. I wanted to know 1) if anyone knew of any good books that are a "must read" for the topic and 2) if anyone has an opinions on it

Sorry I don't know much about the 1916 Easter Rising. I used to know lots about four years ago. Well one little fact that I do remember about it is that there are still bullet holes in the GPO (General Post Office) from it and I noticed a bullet hole in a statue of an angel on O'Connell st the other day.

Meh, not the best thing they could have done, baricading themselves in to several buildings, easy targets in the end but it was the result of the 1916 Rising that mattered, chain reaction like.

I can't remember much about it I do know
James Connoly(RIP) was badly injured and faced the firing squad in Kilmainim Gaol in Dublin where he was propped up on a chair
Eamon De Velara was captured but not excuted because Britain wanted America to help them in the world war

as far as i understand it wasnt a move to overthrow the english so much as a move to demonstrate the irish people's feelings. i think it was a brave decision for those involved - they really had no chance of winning. just a few men against the british forces. the arms that were sent from germany were discovered and confiscated at port. hence the english realised what was about to happen. most people pulled out then but a few stayed in the city center and barricaded themselves in government buildings surrounded by the opposition to stand up for their cause
also, it set a lot of other influential things into motion; negotiations with britain, handing over of the 36 counties, division of northern ireland, civil war, the troubles in the north...
sorry thats just my two cents on it. theres plenty of history books on it over here. dunno about where you are
