Tell me what grade you were in when you started marching, which instrument you first marched and how long you have been marching, please. I was just wondering... I wanted to see kind of an average of when people started marching and which is the more popular instrument to march you first year. (It's a report project for one of my humanitites classes)

ME:
Marching since 7th grade,
Marched clarinet (still do)
And have been marching two years (and is already the section leader)

I was also wondering your point of view on whether or not the end of your 6th grade year is too young to start marching band musically. Because I know it takes our younger marchers sometimes weeks to figure out a rhythm that a highschool would have in three minutes.

ME:
- Marched since freshman year of HS (we didn't have a middle school marching program; the only MSers that were allowed to join the HS marching band were those who play pit instruments).
- Served as trumpet section leader and trumpet soloist my last two years at HS.
- Served 3 years in college marching band in 1st trumpet section ( my lips still hurt. D: ).

Well, our Middle school doesn't have any sort of marching program, so i've marched, with tuba, since my freshman year. Not saying much, as right now I'm a Sophmore.

But I've played the tuba since the fifth grade. biggrin

at my school you could only start marching in highschool [9-12th]
and this is my first year.
10th grade.

at my jr high,
i was sick during tryouts and pissed off when i couldnt even tryout the week after.
see the kid i liked made it into mb and thats why i really wanted to do it.

though i have just started,
ive been watching mb shows since 6th or 7th grade.
[mommy marching back then, and her best friends older daughter was marching when i was in 6or7th grade so we went to the games to watchh]

i saw 6th grade is okay if the are willing to not be cry babiess.

Well our school doesn't really have a middle school progam the middle schoolers marching in the highschool band but in order to get in the marching band the band director has to let you in. You see? You have to be so good and have no problems with your classes. (we have one band director for middle and high school [we are that poor])

Marching since 9th grade, 4 years.
Alto. Sax. since 5th grade.
Pretty much the section leader, the BD doesn't actually say who is.. but there are only 2 other senior saxes and i work a lot harder and show up more often than them. cool

Started marching freshmen year, grade 9, and now I'm in grade 10. Have been playing clarinet in band since 5th grade.

I'm pretty much 100% dedicated to my clarinet.
3nodding Well, I play piano too, but that's just something I fiddle with in my free time.

Clarinets all the way babeh. All. The. Way.
