Never liked it. It's just a silly idea to pay to play something you can play for free somewhere else (there must be at least five free to play games that do the same than WoW and sometimes to it 'better.')
It's the same concept that I apply to Ragnarok. There's 300 other MMORPGs out there that are better and free, why bother with that one?

May be the lame-a** community, the last-millenium RPG system, the fact they're making you pay for a game you already paid for, or that the graphics still look like they're from 2004... Someday they'll figure we're in 2008.
Or the "new awsum" classes. You know, the Naked OMG Elf Chixxor and all that crap they keep on adding (dude? Just get Dungeon Siege 2, it's not a MRMLG*)
* Massively Retaded, Money-Leeching Game. razz

I have been playing it since it came out its not bad and the reason they make you pay 14.99 a month is so they can pay the people to take care of you and for maint. blizzard did not expect it to be so popular.
i agree though you shouldent have to play anymore they have enough moeny.

There are games out there that give you all WoW can offer and more... Even some with better balance of classes, more skills and bigger mapping... And they give all that for free. And if you decide to pay (key word being decide) an extra fee, you get a lot more advantages in-game.
So, seriously? Blizzard is the new Squaresoft. People plays their games and holds them in a tall pedestal simply because they can't be bothered checking other, better games made by other companies.

Being a game tester, ive tried most of the recent MMO's that have come out since WOW. and most of them have tried to copy the better parts of WOW, the ones that dont have tried to copy everquest.
though there was one that i thought was a original idea and very good, its called Sword of The New World. its one of the free but you can pay money to enhance the experiance.

Try Conquer Online then... It's old, and it's (OMG!*) not WoW-style 3D, but it's got the best item system I've ever seen, knocking off that stupid need to change your gear every 3 levels other games have...
Heck, I've been using the same freaking armor and dual clubs for like two years now in that game (OMG the second!)
Of course there's enhancements for those who pay, but all those can be sold for gold, which helps keeping the free players interested and able to buy stuff (if they (OMG the third!) gold farm enough.)
Only bad point of the game is that it condones PKing. As in, big bad bully beating the s**t out of people thirty or fifty levels below them. As in, the game's got one too many lifeless n00bs of level 100+ rolleyes
*My OMGs in this case mock the usual reactions of online players.

Ive tried it and i have to agree with you on all accounts, its a good game but i cant get into a game were i cant enjoy myself and i cant enjoy myself when there what we can call over PKing. if i cant get anywere i cant have fun, its feels to me like failing at a JRPG.
but again i agree if i could have fun with the game i would play it more.

I was kinda lucky, I was in before the income of massive idiot PKers. By the time idiot PKers started polluting the game, I already had enough friends around to kill any PKer I couldn't beat myself.
Nowadays, I use a quite different strategy, though. If you don't like burning, stay in the shadows. I am an unknown, I only log in for the game, anyhow, but ya know, if you don't have anyone who knows you, then you won't have anyone after you just because you're friends with their enemies.

Actually, using World of Warcraft as a portal to the MMO world would be like watching Epic Movie to know what comedies are about. It's actually one of the worst MMORPGs out there nowadays, and it's not even free to play. Whereas other much better ones like 9Dragons, Grand Chase or even Conquer are at least partially free, and you can level up and enjoy the game without spending a single buck on it. If you do need the OMG SHINEY! gear to get to a high level in any such game, then you should try Pac-Man instead, I say.
Also, all that OMG SHINEY gear can be bought with in-game gold, they're expensive, yes, but never as expensive to me as dishing out real money for something that might possibly be gone tomorrow after you get 'hacked' (aka: idiot wants an in-game girlfriend, idiot gives a 'girl' his password, idiot gets everything stolen by the intelligent man playing a girl to fool idiots.)

I hated Everquest, FFXI, and Maple Story those are the main three I played and none of them did anything for me. I don't expect that to change. My problem with MMORPGs is that i play RPGs for the set goal, the story, even if they are non linear like the elder Scroll series I want to have that feeling that I accomplished something. MMORPGs never give my that feeling.
