The air is still and stagnant, and darkness ligers in corners and doorsteps a bit longer during the daylight hours, as though ashamed to show the place to the rest of the world.

The buildings and streets are dusty and dilapidated, and rats and other wild creatures run in the shadows. People stand on streetcorners, selling stolen wares and illegal merchandise for a favor or a handful of coins. You can find most anything here, if you know where to go.

Most of the passerby keep their heads down as they hurry through the Slums, not wanting to be seen in such an area. Everyone here is armed, and you can tell the residents by their swagger and many scars.

Dingy and disreputable shops are scattered here and there. Their signs are well-kept in this part of town, in order to lure innocent passerby. Information dealers are on every streetcorner, selling out old friends and new enemies for the right price, and it is nearly impossible not to trip over all prostitutes and beggars swarming the area.

The whole area has an almost desparate feel to it, as though the regulars are aware that their time is limited, and are rushing to get everything done.

A few men caught Mahna's attention, and he hurried to pass them. They stopped him short, and began to pelt him with slurred terms and profane words, laced with the scent of alcohol and wine. The larger and more dominant of the 3 men rose to Mahna's height and began to insult him further.

"Let me pass..." Mahna growled angrily after a few exchanges of harsh words and phrases.

"And why sssshhhould we dooooo that? I would mmmmuch rather.." As he spoke with a drunken accent, he drew a small blade into his right hand, and held it loosely.

Upon seeing the blade, instinct took control of Mahna, and he drew the Black Halberg from his back as it burned with a fiery green blaze. He lunged forward, cutting the mans ring finger off, and swiping the weapon to the side so as to knock the blade from the mans hands.

The man screamed with a fury, and the other men soon stumbled off to the side, desperately trying to make their way as far as possible from the Dragon Like creature that had just mutilated their dear friend. The man calmed slowly, and began to curse Mahna and insult him with empty threats and hollow excuses.

Mahna looked down to the pitiful man, and stepped over him as he made his way further down the road. He thought it wise to keep his Halberg ready, and walked using it as a walking stick of sorts.

The men helped their fallen comrade to his feet and returned to the establishment they had come from, irrational plans of revenge filled their minds as they climbed the steps with the wounded man at the lead now that his adrenaline had kicked in. He moved to open the door with his good hand but grasped only pain as it shot open against his knuckles, pushing him against the rail and renewing his rant though it's now little more than angry grunting. Out raced a cloaked figure through the newly opened door and nearly hitting the man's companions but instead losing her balance and falling to the ground with a painful cracking noise. As she got herself up the injured drunk made his way out from behind the door, looking back at the figure as she started a running limp in the same way the dragon man had gone, turning back to the door to see a large fist. The fist was owned by a very strong, and very angry man, and left no hint of consciousness in the drunkard. "Catch her!" he bellowed while pointing at the figure, spry and quick even though she was limping, the drunks ran after her wearily, or more accurately away from the angry man, most of the group turning down a side street at first chance.

With one arm doing it's best to keep balance and the other cradled against her chest, May'a ran as fast as she could but light headed and confused it was an unstable run, barely making it past Mahna. She came so close to him that some of her blood, emerald green with a dull glow, rubbed off her arm onto his. She kept running around a bend in the road and out of sight.

Mahna's ears flattened on his head as he heard movements of aggressive movement following behind him closely. He began to turn, but upon doing so a cloaked figure grazed past him, leaving a glowing green residue on his robes.

He looked down curiously, but before he could respond, angry voices attracted his attention from the path that he had just tread. He turned full circle now, holding his Halberg at the ready and pointing it towards the mens direction. His mind raced, but something in his heart told him to follow the cloaked figure.

He spread his wings wide, hurtling himself upwards and in the direction of the figure. His energy's began to instill him with a further vigor to seek out the cloaked figure. As if he was meant to protect who ever it was, as if that one figure held all the answers for him. But he had nothing else to start with, and out of inspiration, or lack of a better direction he continued to pursue "it" further. His Halberg burned with a desperate emerald blaze, rising and falling with the wind.

May'a peeked back, the road was clear but she could hear men giving chase. As the street went on there were more and more people on it, and with their increased numbers her anxiety too went up, she was in no condition to be identified. Another fork in the road was coming, and to her luck there was an ally just before it, diving into it as quietly as she could and hiding behind some trash. Several of the men ran past, including her original captor.

Mahna kept his distance from the figure as it ran before him, eventually taking refuge behind a small pile of trash. He watched as the men continued to pursue something that they only need to stop and look around to find. He drew his Halberg and landed as softly as he could before the cloaked figure, as the Emerald blaze burning brightly on his blade illuminated her face. It was no surprise to him that the figure turned out to be a female, and he tried as much as he could to appear as an ally rather than an enemy. He turned away from her towards the direction where the men had run off to, and began to speak.

"You are safe now, should they return I will dispatch them. But you must tell me, who are you? And why are you fleeing?" As he spoke he mounted the Burning Halberg onto his back, and continued to look down the path.

The shouting grew more and more noticeable and he began to realize that they did not have much time. "Hurry, take my hand. Now is not the place or the time for this discussion." He held out one of his clawed hands, and used the other to unsheathe his blazing weapon. His wings spread wide, and he readied himself for flight.

She hesitated but the voices were getting closer. She eyed the flaming sword and closed her eyes before grabbing his hand. Instantly May'a tensed in pain, every muscle in her arm clamped down with full force and her face cringed, the sword flickered out and a web of lines glowed from under her shirt; After a moment they began to retreat and shrink and within a few moments the light went out and the sword roared back. Her grip relaxed for a moment as she recovered.

"Where will we go?" Her voice was strong and weathered but friendly enough under the circumstances. With her free hand she pulled the hood back over her head, looking Mahna in the eye with trust.

Mahna looked to the surroundings around the city, and eventually down to the city itself. "As of right now, I am not exactly certain. The winds will guide us." He said to her, holding her figure close so that she would not fall away before launching himself into the air.

The winds blew strongly from from the harbors, and Mahna found himself just gliding aimlessly. He collected himself before looking down to the crowd below him. There was a bustling marketplace where a particular sign managed to catch his eye. "The Red Goblet..." He whispered to himself before landing in the alleyway next to the Tavern.

He turned to the cloaked figure that he had just been flying with. "Are you okay?" He asked gingerly as he made eye contact with her for the first time. The brilliant emerald glimmer that seemed to radiate off of her eyes left Mahna speechless, and he turned his head away abruptly. "You are safe now. I will go and wait in the Tavern. Come in when you are ready." And with that he turned away from her and made his way into the building.
