Has any one gotten this game?
How is it? I'd like to know. What are the classes and characters like?
~stares longingly at the pretty case for the game~
I must get a PSP. Christmas is coming up, I shall get it then! D:<

The new one you say? If anybody has the PSP version, let us know. I am amazed at how the PSP version is ready before the DS one...

They should make it for the Wii! Then I could actually buy it... Is poor over here...

Hey, wouldn't it be great if you could play the DS version on the Wii? That would be awesome!
I wonder if it's gonna come out next year and on which month...

What's the real difference between the PS version and the PSX version? Isn't it just a remake or does it have like new features?
PostPosted: Tue Dec 18, 2007 11:52 am

It'd be difficult for me to tell ya since I've never played the original for PS. The best thing to do would be to go to gamefaqs and/or gamespot and read the reviews for both games. 3nodding Don't you think?

I have the PSP version, so I'll answer any questions you have.

There are two new classes on the PSP that weren't in the PSX version, Onion Knight and Dark Knight.

You can also get Balthier from FFXII in your group, as well as Luso, the main character from the new Tactics Advance 2 game coming out for the DS.

Oh, and it's a good bit more difficult than FFTA. But you don't have the different races (so anyone can be any job (except only girls can be dancers and only guys can be bards)), monsters you capture can fight alongside you, and you can recruit enemy units.

And there are job classes that are much more difficult to get than the ones on FFTA. They made Dark Knight ridiculously hard to get. You have to master Black Mage and Knight, get Samurai, Geomancer, and Ninja to the maximum level, and permanently kill 20 enemies with that person.

Oh, and the story's a lot darker. People dying for lost causes and losing control to their greed and sin and becoming monsters.

And it's very very fun.

If you wanna know anything else, ask away!

scream God! I hate not having a PSP now! This sounds like a must have game...

But you know, it doesn't sound like the dark knight is that tough to get. Maybe I'm just saying it cuz I can't play it, he-he. mrgreen

It's the most fun I've had in a while. I have trouble putting it down.
I'll try and put it into perspective. Whenever you perform an action, you get around 20-30 job points. (50-60 if you have JP Boost equipped, which is usually a good idea) To learn a move, you have to spend some of these job points. The more basic moves, like the basic Black Magic and early moves, cost 50-100 points, and really advanced stuff costs about 1000. When you've learned every move, you "Master" a job, but you probably already knew that. As you get job points, you level up in the job, and the highest level is 8. That takes about 3000 points. Long story short, you have to take about 720 actions in various jobs (with JP Boost, only about 360; but that's not even counting the amount of training you have to do to unlock Samurai and Ninja, which is nothing to sneeze at) and end up doing enough training to make you strong enough to breeze through the game anyway.

...But the Dark Knight is horrendously, awesomely strong. So that's cool.

Great! So the Ability Points were replaced by Job Points? Does that mean there are no more Judge Points then? Weird...
Right now I'm not exactly getting the whole job points thing. rolleyes

So the dark knight is THAT powerful? How much so? Could it strike down a unit in one turn without taking him too long to get to the unit in the first place?

Let's just say they have the highest attack power of any normal job.

If I need somebody frighteningly strong though, Cid's just fine. mrgreen
They made him crazy strong. I've taken out like 4 enemies in one strike with him. He's stronger than anyone else, and faster too, thanks to his sword, Excalibur. It automatically casts permanent Haste on him at the start of battle. Oh, and he has an awesome array of abilities.

...They almost made him TOO good. You could probably win most random battles with just him.
Cidolphas Orlandeau is his full name. He goes by Orlandeau.
His Job class is Sword Saint.
He's cool.

Balthier's also actually really good, though not as good as Cid.

I see... Dark Knights sound great.

Wow! Doesn't sound anything like the Cid we have in FFTA, does it? I hate that Cid doesn't allow for Haste to be cast on him. Sure, it seems that he can't be slowed down either but that can be avoided with the right equipment so it's a bummer.
This new Cid sounds too good to be true however. twisted

I can do something similar with my character of Madeline in FFTA. Since she's a summoner and has doublecast, she can take care of many units as long as they're in the same area. And with the help of the black robe & her dream staff her elemental magic is even stronger. 3nodding
It's too bad she's still not as strong as Pallanza though. He can take care of any unit in one strike (and up to 3 more if they surround him). Thanks to my Sequence, of course. It has an attack power of 670 and rising. mrgreen

Yeah. I beat the game, and I'm not even close to getting one. sweatdrop

He's so good, it's surprising that it's true. He can kill most things in one hit, and anything else (save a few bosses with higher than 999 HP) in two. He can drain either HP or MP from an enemy, at amounts guaranteed to heal him from the brink of death (and take his opponent there, if not outright kill them) or render any spellcaster effectively useless. He has moves that can crush any piece of enemy equipment and deal a lot of damage at the same time (with a 100% hit rate, no less!). None of his techniques use any MP, and can be used immediately, often against multiple enemies. His unique job has some of the best stat growth of any job in the game. Thanks to the equipment I gave him (the best shield, helmet and armor in the game), most attacks have only about a 25% chance of hitting him, and he is likely to counter for 350+ damage. He has an attack that has a chance of inflicting death automatically, and can do 999 damage even without that.

...

You almost feel sorry for your enemies.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 22, 2008 8:49 am

WOW! So even after beating the game you haven't gotten the Dark Knight yet, huh? It must be tougher than I imagined...

OMG! If only the Cid in FFTA was half as good as that one. Ha-ha! Almost feel sorry for the enemies, eh? I bet you could say, "yes. Almost but... not quite." Ha-ha! lol
BTW, I got a couple of questions! How many slots do you get in the PSP version to equip yer units with? Do you get 5 as well or more? And another thing: Do you also get to equip 5 abilities or more so than on FFTA? I ask cuz I think that doublesword can be something of a nuisance. Example: What's so good about hitting yer enemy twice if yer gonna miss half the times or more? rolleyes
I would love to be able to equip at least 2 support abilities: Double sword & Concentrate. 3nodding
I wonder what kind of abilities Cid can equip... neutral

Yeah. I've only just now gotten Ramza (the main character) to master Black Mage, and he hasn't even unlocked Dragoon, Samurai, or Ninja yet. gonk

There isn't any doubt that Cid is my best person. Not even a little.

Yeah. Same as FFTA, you get a weapon slot, a shield slot (or second weapon slot if you have doublesword equipped), a helm/hat slot, an armor/clothes/robe slot, and an accessory slot.

The abilities are the same too, but some jobs and special people have special innate abilities. For example, one of the special characters, Reis, has an innate doublesword ability in her special Dragonkin job. However, she can't equip any weapons except one that you can only use one of, so you have to give her "Equip: Swords" or something like that. Also, she has the innate ability to "Tame", or force enemy monsters to join your side, if she attacks one and reduces it to low HP. She also has many dragon-related abilities, such as a move that has a 100% chance of turning an enemy dragon permanently to your side, and a move that significantly increases a dragon's stats that you can use multiple times. She's not quite as useful if there are no dragons on the field though, and you can't tell who your enemies are before you dispatch troops, so using her is a bit of a gamble.

Oh, and all special characters can still become any other job. Their special job just replaces the default "Squire" job. Thus, Cid can equip all the same abilities as anyone else. mrgreen
