The year is 2973.
The setting: You are standing in a dark ally in the ruins of old NYC. You are amongst a small group of people clad in black. Several are mounted on hoverbikes. All are armed. You are all waiting for a signal.

Current mission: "We're to take to the sewers and head East. We will end at Shelter 7-4. Any members of the resistance we can recover, we bring along. Any enemies... well, you know the drill."

so what are we after? mordecai wasn't very clear in the briefing. all he said was wait for the signal...
and i'm tired of waiting.

well i, for one, am tired of playing nurse.
stressed
it's not like we're going to find anymore survivors, anyway. it's been almost two weeks since the russians bombed this place.
we should be lucky we weren't here and move on.

"Would you prefer being on the front lines with the others?" A few people standing around mumbled in agreement, while others glared menacingly. "Besides, we haven't had a chance to check the surrounding ar--" There was a bright flash in the distance.
All at once, everyone either jumped onto a bike or started walking quickly towards the flash.
"Let's try not to attract any unnesesary attention this time. Remember, sometimes discretion is the better part of valor!"

*shaddix quickly climbs the fire escape ladder of the closest building and began racing along the rooftops close behind his brother zach, while the others sped along on their hoverbikes*
"at least on the frontlines we'd make a difference..."
*zach glanced over his shoulder at his brother*
"no, shaddix. we wouldn't last ten seconds on the frontlines. save that for the grunts."
"but-"
"no buts. we weren't bred to be lowly soldiers. we are guardians, born with amazing power... but with power comes great responsibility, and our power means nothing if we're the only ones that survive. right now our power obligates us to save and protect the fallen."
*they soon meet with the others*

Haley smiled as her friend James strode forward and picked something off the ground. He snorted in laughter. "A note. He sure likes his cliches, I wonder if it explodes t--..." He trailed off, his eyes skimming the paper.
"What does it say?" someone questioned.
James crunched the paper and lit it on fire. "Damn. We've been targeted." There was a loud murmering and some cursing. "We're to take to the sewers and head East. We will end at Shelter 7-4. Any members of the resistance we can recover, we bring along. Any enemies... well, you know the drill. Any questions?"

"the sewers? so we're rats now? when will we be able to stop hiding? i'm sick of running with my tail between my legs, and smelling like crap doesn't help either."
*zach slaps his brother*
"stop being arrogant and use your brain. shelter 7-4 is a long way from here and we can't risk being followed. i say we split into two groups and take seperate entrances into the sewer."
"that's two chances of being seen. we're better off with one shot. besides, we can't afford to split our strength."
"then let's hurry up."

Haley was about to say something when Jade cut across her.
"Hot date tonight, Shaddix? Aw, I thought we had something." She smirked. "Unfortunately, I think you'll be late, what with trying not to get killed..."

Everyone nodded in unison. After a short walk, they found a manhole cover. After about thirty seconds, a little sweating, and some PG13 swearing, they had an entrance to the sewers.
James grinned. "Smells like springtime flowers. Ladies first!"
"Well..." Haley said, "Shall we, Jade?"
Jade sighed. She climbed down the ladder and everyone heard a loud squelch.
"Sick."
Haley laughed and followed.
*squelch*
"Not cool."
