Hi guys! How's God treating you these days? (Very well, I'm sure xd )
I'm traveling to the Philippines in January for a biology class on ecosystems and wildlife. I'm really thankful for the opportunity and excited to go! All I know so far is that we will be doing a lot of hiking and snorkeling (to get at the wildlife), and we will be staying in Manila for some of the trip. Also, the class fulfills Cultural Diversity credits so we will be eating local food and, I think, attending some cultural events. I know there are some people in the guild who are from the Philippines or whose families are from there... does anyone have any advice, stories, facts, etc for me?? Also, I LOVE churches and cathedrals, so if there are any special ones in Manila let me know!
Thanks, and God keep you safe and warm. ^_^
heart Rosa

From what I remeber, where I lived in the Phillippines which is about south of Manila, is pretty much where thick forests grow but most of the paths in them lead to towns surrounding little cathedrals and churches, from what I remembered.

Well my top 5 super-short stories would probably be... 5) I saw a monitor lizard! and a sea turtle! and Nemos (aka clownfish) in anemones and crazy Diadema urchins and upside-down jellyfish and monkeys and tarsiers smile ( this tarsier posed for me!) 4) I ate a bunch of crazy stuff like ice cream in yam and cheese flavors and blood stew! Sounds nasty but so delicious! Also the best mangoes ever. 3) We hiked a volcano and went swimming & kayaking in the lake in the crater. it was soo beautiful. ( not my photo but this is really what it looks like) 2) I was trying to take a close-up of a monkey and it grabbed my camera right out of my hands and threw it on the ground! I didn't think he could reach me on his chain (he was a pet). Luckily my camera is impact resistant and survived!! 1) Drinking party in the pouring rain on the beach with the entire class, including the professor! (Never drink coconut wine, it's like grain alcohol mixed with vinegar mixed with poison xp ) other than that, we toured various natural settings and cities and learned about about the history, culture, and tribal natives and bought pearls for cheap and called "that's what she said" every five minutes and fell down muddy hills and bumped our heads on the boat snorkeling and got stung by jellyfish and got stared at... all the wacky traveling stuff that makes a trip complete ^_^

^^ My girlfriend's family came from the Phillipines. (she was born here though).
It's a BEAUTIFUL place, and very Catholic. I don't know anything about it, because I've never been myself, but I hear it's a great place to go. (though according to one of her Filipino priests, he said and I quote "The Phillipines have two temperatures... hot... and hotter." XP

XP true. it was crazy hot, even in january, and the sun is really strong too. it's funny because despite being halfway around the world and a very different culture, it kinda felt like i could be at home there. very catholic, awesome food, and they *love* americans. oh, and MONKEYS! lol
