I await this epic. Should be interesting. Hopefully not as camp as George of the Jungle (which I suffered through this weekend on TV).

I'm a little skeptical about this one, but I will wait and see what the rest of the world has to say about it when it comes out.

Personally I'm holdin' my money until Cloverfield hits. Let's hope that's a good one.

Dude, seriously what the hell

From the trailers alone:

Speed Racer - awesome candy coloured racing involving more explosions than an average feature length movie. Not to mention a monkey.

Cloverfield - from the makers of LOST, an, ugh, monster movie without any sight of the monster. Based on 'found footage' which basically means shite handheld camera work 'for effect'. Probably the monster will look like a bunch of smoke.

For somebody who wanted to shiv everyone and their uncle who paid money for and enjoyed the Transformers movie, I'm surprised you'd be so enthusiastic about another big budget nostalgia movie. razz Plus, after the Wachowskis cocked-up a fantastic idea like the Matrix and V, I don't trust them with something like Speed Racer. I mean sure, the first Matrix was good and V had its moments, despite deviating from the original book's plot too much. I'm just...worried.

Besides, the only racing movie any-body ever needs to see is Overdrift.

As for Cloverfield, yes, I understand it's made by JoJo Abrams and it uses a lot of found footage but since I'm one of those freaks who genuinely enjoyed the Blair Witch Project, as I'm sure you remember, you can understand why I'm a little more optimistic with this one. But like the Speed Racer movie, I'm also going to wait and see what is said.

Time will tell.

I'm shocked that no one made note of the various camera styles used in Tranformers. That had 'recovered' footage as well as amateur looking shots laced all through the action scenes.

I'm looking forward to seeing what T'he Parasite Movie looks like on the big screen.

Koji - well Speed Racer looks like it's taking the right approach of doing a Nostalgia movie - candy colours, colourful action, nonsensical dialgue, instead of pretentions of 'relevance' and 'realism' as Transformers had.

As for the found footage thing, you know my opinion on Blair Witch (it was one of the most painful cinema experiences I had, and I was genuinely enthusiastic about the whole concept) so no. If I want badly shot handheld camera footage... I'll go shoot my own with my crappy handheld DVCam, kthx.

The 'found footage' style in Transformers is basically the 'Michael Bay moving the camera really fast while shaking it around' style, which is an utter rubbish of filming giant robots punching each other in the face alot. So you're totally crediting Michael Bay with too much.

I finally got to see the Speed Racer trailer in full QuickTime glory and I have to say it looks very interesting.

The mix between the FX and live action is very cartoony. But that's the effect the producers were looking for. A cross between a Kung Fu action movie and a big budget Hollywood computer CG blockbuster.

Can't say I'm fond of the actor playing Speed or the "Dukes of Hazard" style of acting. But I'm not the target audience for this movie. Hell, I haven't paid to see a film in a theater in over a year now.
