Now, in my AP Euro class, we had many debates, which I want to bring here. Now, for our first debate, Is there such a thing as absolute moral truth? If so, why, and how do you know?

*sigh* What I mean is, if there is something in the world that is absolutely true, even if all the world says its not true, that it really is true. That is absolute moral truth. But, fine, since no one is talking, or that you guys don't know what I'm even asking, I'll debate with myself. I believe therre is no absolute moral truth, and that it all depends on a person's beliefs. Everyone had different beliefs, and so, people all believe the same thing. If you say murder should never be done, what about people acting on self-defense? Or rape. In some countries, even the victim of the rape is punished for letting herself get raped, and it was even in the newspapers. I be you guys wouldn't know about that though. >.> NO ONE IS TALKING IN FORUMS ANYMORE~!!!!! *angry sigh*

I believe that there is such a thing as absolute moral truth. I am a Christian, so I believe that what God says in the Bible is absolutely true, and nothing can change that. Even my friend who does not believe in God agrees that things are either right or wrong, because he feels so in his conscience. I mean, if there were no truth then why do we feel bad when we do something wrong? But that is just my personal opinion, and I am not very good with words (being Chinese...)

There is no absolute moral truth...It all depends on the person in question. Each person has different moral values and while we may find them to be immoral they may find them completely moral. Even Christians can not say that people don't differ on moral issues because they do even within the Christian religion. (due to different interpretations of the bible and its meanings) So for each person there is a specific absolute truth but none that all agree on.
And if I had a Death Note I would use it to kill murderers but only the ones where there is as close to zero percent chance of them being innocent as possible and they have to get away with it with little to no consequences. It would also have to be a very bad crime...nothing small or stupid.

If you kill someone as defense, would that really be considered wrong??? Yea. I would kill people that were like serial murders or something. Like...raped 25 women or killed a gajillion people. =/

XD And crusaders that slaughtered many people in cold blood didn't think they did anything wrong because they were doing it for god...kinda like the Jihads as well.

If I had a Death Note, I wouldn't do anything with it. Part of the reason being because if you use the Death Note you can't go to heaven or hell. Also, because killing for any reason is strictly against God's word. THOU SHALT NOT KILL is one of the ten commandments. Two wrongs don't make a right. But that's just my opinion...

huh, hard to argue with that. but, to be like a skepticist, how can you know for sure there is heaven and a hell? just believe what some book says? How do you know who wrote it?? other than "cuz god says so, so it must be true" what other proof do you have to offer that you have to be a christian in order to go to heaven? a man may be a christian, but he may be evil and commit horrible deeds.

Yes, it is true that you can be a Christian and have committed horrible deeds. God does not see your sins when you believe in Him because his son Jesus' death covered them (it does not mean that our sins are gone). If someone sins after they accept Christ, it is only because they have strayed so far from God. I know a few people that were taken out of the world to stop them from sinning any more and going farther away from God. As for proof, there is no ACTUAL proof of the spiritual world. Sure, if you are a Christian, you can feel the influences around you. I know it is true through my person experiences. Creation is no more provable than evolution. Do you believe in evolution? Do you really believe that this whole complex life came by chance from non-living matter? If so, I would love to have a debate about that. I have a lot of evidence STRONGLY going against evolution. If heaven and hell are not real, then why do I have a conscience? Why do I feel bad when I hurt others and do wrong? Do you believe that we sin? If so, then who have we sinned against?

ehhh, i dont really know if i believe in evolution or not. i guess i kinda dont, but what about all the bones and all that was discovered? but i dont think we evolved from monkeys. =P
also you said "If heaven and hell are not real, then why do I have a conscience? Why do I feel bad when I hurt others and do wrong?" What does having a conscience have to do anything about heaven and hell? just because we have a sense of moral justics and of what we think is right doesnt prove that heaven or hell exists. and, i highly doubt that we feel bad when we do wrong because we have a little god in our mind saying " O:< you sinned!" u dont think so. also, you do know i am a christian, yes? i do believe that he works things, i mean, i prey to him to delay my period, and it works. XDDDDD hahaha. but i think its so very wrong to criticize others who arent a christian. you're not that kind of person, but i believe that every person has a right to choose what to believe in. we dont have the right to force people to believe in something they dont.
i do believe in sin, but i do NOT believe that we sin against god, per se, but ourselves. if we know we did wrong, we feel bad, because its not normally part of our everyday behavior, and it just feels foreign to us.

Nobody in the world knows there is something called moral truth because some people may think something is true or a lie and it will spread around but i do believe some things in this world is moral truth.

hmmmm. i've changed a lot since my recent posts.
i do not think there is any moral truth still, but i do believe there are limits/rules which he follow, but we have the free will to choose to follow it or not. the thing is, the law of human nature states that since we have those rules/limits, we will break them. you can learn more from CS Lewis' book, Mere Christianity. (best book ever!)
