Since it was mentioned in another thread, I wanted to make sure that you all know the wonders of Pandora -- "It's a new kind of radio - Stations that play only music you like."That's their slogan, and it's true. Well, once you've trained it a little.""With Pandora you can explore this vast trove of music to your heart's content. Just drop the name of one of your favorite songs or artists into Pandora and let the Genome Project go. It will quickly scan its entire world of analyzed music, almost a century of popular recordings - new and old, well known and completely obscure - to find songs with interesting musical similarities to your choice. Then sit back and enjoy as it creates a listening experience full of current and soon-to-be favorite songs for you.
You can create as many "stations" as you want. And you can even refine them. If it's not quite right you can tell it so and it will get better for you. ""How it works The Music Genome Project©
On January 6, 2000 a group of musicians and music-loving technologists came together with the idea of creating the most comprehensive analysis of music ever.
Together we set out to capture the essence of music at the most fundamental level. We ended up assembling literally hundreds of musical attributes or "genes" into a very large Music Genome. Taken together these genes capture the unique and magical musical identity of a song - everything from melody, harmony and rhythm, to instrumentation, orchestration, arrangement, lyrics, and of course the rich world of singing and vocal harmony. It's not about what a band looks like, or what genre they supposedly belong to, or about who buys their records - it's about what each individual song sounds like.
Since we started back in 2000, we've carefully listened to the songs of tens of thousands of different artists - ranging from popular to obscure - and analyzed the musical qualities of each song one attribute at a time. This work continues each and every day as we endeavor to include all the great new stuff coming out of studios, clubs and garages around the world.
It has been quite an adventure, you could say a little crazy - but now that we've created this extraordinary collection of music analysis, we think we can help be your guide as you explore your favorite parts of the music universe.
We hope you enjoy the journey.
Tim Westergren Founder The Music Genome Project So if you haven't already had the opportunity, really, check it out.

I used to spend a lot of time on Pandora, but it didn't have any classical, so I sort of stopped... I guess it does have classical now, but I haven't bothered to get back into it.

That's rather interesting. It's not just a load of crock, is it?

No, I like it. My only complaint is, it seems to play a lot of stuff with the same sort of sound. I have ebm/industrial stations, but it picks certain aspects of the music and latches onto those, so you can get a lot of acoustic music from a station that starts out seemingly on the other end of the spectrum. You DO have to train it to avoid that, or it will keep migrating one way or the other.
For instance, it was playing a station that's heavy in Funker vogt sort of stuff, the other day, and gave me one of the Carpenters or something. It made me go o_O.
The quick mix is also nice, which picks from all of your created stations at random, but you still have to give it feedback. I like this song, I don't like that one, etc.

The addition of classical music was quite nice. I listened to it for a good portion of the day today. Antonio Vivaldi Radio is amazing! Well, I guess that's technically baroque, but that's why it's so great.

Pandora was excellent at one time in my life. It introduced me to many new bands. Still on my quest for new sounds, I've come across a more recent internet radio that also assists the listener in discovering bands. Slacker. I highly recommend it.

I've just input the Vivaldi, next I'll do Wagner, Orff and Saint-Saens. Ohyes!
You've just changed the course of my day.

You've just changed the course of my day.I have Vivaldi, Bach, Wagner, and Mahler. I should get Tchaikovsky on there too, but I haven't taken the time for that yet.

They still need to refine their classical genome. Their jazz, blues and rock ones splice things together nicely, but the classical ones lacks a bit. Somehow Vivaldi got into my Wagner seeded channel. Good to see Offenbach though.
