With the release of the final trailer shown on Fox during American Dad this past Sunday night, I have come to the conclusion that I want to see this movie.

For better or worse, the thought of seeing Cloverfield (or anything new from JJ Abrams) in this period of darkness on the small screen is all that is holding me together.

PG-13, baby!

While the newest commercial spoils a lot of the movie out of the gate, I'm taking Max along for a first day showing!

Not exactly a date movie, but I have a soft spot for monster movies, no matter how bad they are.

I was raised on Godzilla films and Ray Harryhausen films so naturally I'll be there, but I'll be seeing it on the 19th rather than the 18th like everyone else plans to.

Personally I'm content with this being an hour and twenty-five minutes rather than the now-standard ten hour movies we see these days.

Updates as they come.

So at least it's only 90 minutes of shaking cameras instead of over 120! Hopefully the motion sickness won't kick in...

It's an interesting idea, but looks very Blair Witch Project to me. Which I hated. Also I doubt we'll even get to see this famed 'Monster', and if we actually get a glimpse of it it'll look like some smoke like the one from Lost.

Saw it. Got motion sickness. Will buy it on DVD if priced reasonably.

Sorry the review process took so long.

Savanna and I were elbow to elbow at the premier Friday. Packed house. Got to see the Lost season preview clips. Glad to see the action will not let up on the island.

The Star Trek trailer "under construction" sure looked dark and foreboding. Can't wait to see what JJ does to that mythos. I'm sure it won't be to the late Gene's original ideals, but he's dead and hasn't contributed much to the story lately.

As for the movie, I am impressed. One of those rare moments when I didn't want my money back or felt cheated by the price we paid for the tickets!

No spoilers yet. I want those who are still on the fence to go see it. Now go!

And don't forget your motion sickness meds and some aspirin. I had a headache for hours afterwords. So did Savanna.

Couldn't agree more. Not the finest date movie, but a good reason to suspend some reality. And it is not the most perfect of movies. I do have some problems with the story.

However, I insist you go see for yourself before either Max or I begin the nitpicking in earnest.

I bit the bullet and went to watch... actually I was pretty impressed, if a bit dazed and confused from the crazy-cam. It's not perfect (but what is?) but very tense at some moments, and quite watchable in the least. The makers did a very good job at making what was a movie with a sizable budget look lo-fi and raw. Now I wish for a proper DVD release with a ton of extras and geeky s**t of the sort (tv news footage? army recordings? more backstory? that would be quite rad).

Fair warning. Detailed rant below.

OK, since the traffic in here is slow, I'm going ahead with a few more annoyances I had with the movie.

The film didn't come anywhere near meeting the high water marks that Lost hit with their viral backstory promotions. I felt cheated.

While the basic story of the movie was solid enough, the amount of reality I had to suspend for some things to work just broke down quickly.

Example: the 'spider/crab' creatures that dropped off of the big monster were just a bit too easy to dispense with. I kept wondering what their relationship was to the big one. Parasites? children?

And on the subject of impossible, what was up with that big a** monster taking a blast from a full rack of munitions dropped from a B2 bomber, then being able to leap thousands of feet in the air in a split second to swat at a helicopter?!? Come on!

The final insult was the fact that the military managed to scrounge through the rubble of Central Park and find that camera in good enough condition to salvage the data chip with the video. Had that been a nuke, that camera would have been a drop of silicon fused with the surrounding matter buried 30 feet under a pile of stone and concrete. Whatever the military dropped on New York to try and kill the monster was not an atomic weapon.

I like a good monster movie. This was not one of the better ones I've seen.

And I'm going to answer to the rant. just because I can!

They were parasites... like any large animal, the monster was covered with nasty little ******** that probably sucked its blood/ate its skin, but once the monster went towards the land, it started scratching itself on buildings and shedding parasites on the population. And since this is a giant monster, it comes with giant creepy parasites that can also eat people.

It didn't leap (I think), it more just stretched out one of its crazy long limbs and swatted at the copter, like a cat would do for a toy mouse on a string.

It's obvious the military wouldn't resort to a nuclear weapon on Manhattan, not unless they wanted to completely ******** up the American West Coast for years to come... and then yes the camera 'card' wouldn't be salvagable, since in the least it would have been destroyed by the resultant EMP. How the monster was defeated is subject to a sequel, obviously.

One can agree with that, although it's not one of the worst either. Let's not mention "American Godzilla", shall we? It brings me nightmares.

One word:

Yongarry

I got a chance to see this some time ago. It is garbage, and the guy in the monster suit was clearly drunk off his tits when he got in.

One last time.

The DVD/BluRay release is this coming Tuesday. I'll splurge on the DVD for the jollies.
