My favorite is definitely the Jefferson Airplane, although there were plenty of great bands coming out of San Francisco in the 60s. Grace Slick has one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard, and the way they bend sound as a band creates entrancing music.
If you're a fan of Bay Area 60s music, I recommend the book The Haight-Ashbury: A History, by Charles Perry. Not only does it detail the phenomenal music scene that was happening there, it also follows the socio-political climate of the neighborhood (and occasionally the Bay Area at large). It's a great read. Well written, interesting, and full of fascinating anecdotes, I highly recommend you read it if you haven't already.
