This came into my inbox today. I have forwarded it to Lanzer for verification and advised him to send out an Announcement if it is a hoax. I am posting it in all my guilds as a warning, in case it is a hoax and some hacker is trying to gain account information from unsuspecting Gaians who don't know any better and we all know they are out there.

Oh, there's no question it's a hoax. Gaia - and any password-run company - is always thorough in stating that they will never ever ask for your password, and so you should never give it out, even if it seems like a mod is asking for it, and especially when it's just a member making a promise of gold or something of that sort.

They asked for you to type your password with spaces between the letters because Gaia doesn`t allow you to send your password by PM! Did you know that? A friend of mine almost were into some private message like this, but on the second she clicked on the send button she felt so stupid and she was reliefed when Gaia said that it is not allowed to send your password by PM.

I`ve tryed, just to check. I tryed to send my mule password to me, and this was the message:

"Request Error

You're not allowed to send your password in PMs."

IT IS HACKING FOR SURE!!!

I received a very similar phishing attempt as a PM a couple of months ago. It said my account would be banned for suspicion of hacking if I didn't reply with my password within 24 hours.

What was amusing about that particular message was that the random system message at the top of the page while I was reading it was a warning against phishers stating that Gaia staffers will NEVER ask you for your password.

Just want to say thanks for the warning. I usually don't fall for scams but if I was tired I might have fallen for that one.

I had another phishing PM waiting in my inbox when TuraLura and I got back last night so watch out. It seems there's another phisher making his rounds.

i haven't gotten this pm. But today, I did get one from a random person asking me to vote for his avitar. The link led you to a gaia front page that asked you to log in. I didn't.

I got another one more recently where the person was claiming to be looking for worthy people to gift his inventory to if he should decide to leave Gaia. He wanted certain information from me that would not be something he would need. Things like my zipcode, claiming he wanted to know if there were other Gaians living in his locale. It was obviously a ploy to garner necessary information about my account and I reported him.

Use your heads people and don't fall for these things, but more importantly, share your knowledge with the younger crowd you come across in your travels around Gaia. We are all sensible people here, but many of those on our friend lists are not and we should be looking out for their best interests too.
