Signatures

I don't no how to get the pictures under my posts; would you please tell me how?

The pictures under your posts are part of something called a "signature". You can edit this by clicking Profile on the top bar and then clicking Edit Profile. Then you put the pictures properties within the proper image bracket format, and Ta-Da! You have a pretty picture under your posts. If you need help on finding the properties of a picture or you do not know how to use the brackets to make the picture show, please contact me. I will make another mini lesson to help you out with anything pertaining to Gaia...as long as it is within my own knowledge. sweatdrop

How to earn Gold in your new Gaian account:
On your new Gaian account as a newbie, you'll start wondering what Gold is, and how to get some. There are three major ways to make Gold, and you've been earning some Gold already.

1) Visiting web pages within Gaia. You will notice that every time you visit a page in Gaia, whether the map or in a forum, you will gain about two or three Gold. This is the easiest way to get Gold in all of Gaia.

2) Posting messages, Sending/Replying to PMs. You will also notice that every time you send (or reply to) a PM, and post a message on a forum thread, you will gain even more gold. I don't quite know how much yet, but I have an estimate of about five Gold per average post. If you have a post longer than normal, such as an average story about five paragraphs, then you'd get about, hmm, an estimate of fourteen Gold? I'm not sure, but you do get more than an average post.

3) Trading with other users on Gaia. If you can make buddies who are generous enough to lend you some Gold when you need it, this is the easiest way to get tons of Gold. I'm guessing that we'll go over buying a Trade Pass, requesting, and completing trades later on. Just stick with us, and we'll teach you the basics of Gaia to help you on your way to becoming a regular Gaian! =^.^=

How to Speak Correctly
On Gaia, you?ll start to notice that not a lot of people speak this way: Lyk OMG!11 me Tinks dis is sooooo kewls!!122~!

Your fellow Gaians speak in this manner, and would enjoy it if you?d copy them: Oh my gosh! I love this gift! I think it?s so cool! Thank you! =^.^=

You?ll need to spell correctly when on Gaia, or others won?t understand you. Other nOObs might, but the public in general won?t. I must say it annoys me as well when nOObs misspell things. It?s probably not on purpose, but you should re-check your work, and then re-read over it after your finished. It will help a lot. If you don?t know how to spell a word, just put it like this: expirience (sp?) The, ?Sp,? stands for, ?Spelling?? It obviously means that you?re not sure how to spell that particular word, and people can accept that. In fact, I?m sure they?ll appreciate it if you tell them that you?re not sure how to spell it.

Here are some acronyms that probably everyone is ok with: ppl, peeps, nuffin or nothin?, nm, np, no probs/ prob, and so on. Very popular acronyms, not ones like this: Lyk omigawd, coolzerz! You can say OMG, but not ?Omigawd,? because I can guarantee you others will not appreciate it. You just have to make sure other people can understand you.

Well, this lesson was a little shorter, but I guess this wraps it up.

Hey, Newbies/N00bs. KNOW YOUR PLACE!
Welcome, n00bs and newbies alike 3nodding . Gaia online is an anime roleplaying forum, and is very different than the common chatroom. If you are quite litteraly, new, than I suggest you strut yourself over to the RULES of Gaia Online (You can find them in forums/welcome forum). This is not a sex house. Gaia is bursting with smart, lovely individuals. And some not so smart, no so lovely individuals. You do not want to be one of these! (Er, the second one, of course.) ninja

E-waltzing around like you own the place is not the smartest thing for a newbie to do. We embrace, and yes, love ( small L whee ) everyone new who comes to Gaia, and look forward to your role-playing talents. If you don't have any role-playing talents, than you can try small, semi-lit or illiterate role-plays, and work your way up. Also, seeking help from a more experienced RPer would be wise, but please, refrain from going to them for help if they have not offered it to you. That might just tick them off.

Here at Gaia, you are mainly judged by your literacy, and ability to type sentences like a human being. You will find some (Okay, a lot. gonk But hopefully not if you go to the right places...) "Leet"(L33t?) speech floating around Gaia, clouding it like a heavy storm cloud, raining arsenic. gonk You don't want to be one of these people, either. If you want to be elite and be in the enjoyable company of easygoing RPers like myself and so many others, than I suggest you stop this ridiculous, annoying way of speaking and type full, grammatically correct sentences. Another one of these poisonous clouds of annoyance is SPAM. SPAM's hometown is the chatterbox forum, where Gaians go to get gold by posting repetitively, more commonly known as 'bumping'- Instead of having intelligent conversations and debates at the ED (Extended discussion, mostly debates.) or GD (Smarter than chatterbox, but still contains threads with topics like, 'Cheese' and 'Llama'.) neutral

If you don't want to be associated with the n00bs that inhabit these chatterbox, SPAM and L33t clouds, I suggest you look for a guild that suits your fancy (Such as a literate role-playing guild. Ask me, I belong to a few.) or look for a thread in the barton town forum labeled 'Literate.' If you are not a literate role-player, (meaning you do not type in full, grammatically correct sentences and role-play in 'story' form, with no **'s or anything of the sort to indicate action) Than look for a thread labeled semi-lit. Stay away from SPAM areas like anything labeled "BAR" or "HOT TUB PARTY~!*!*!*!!". You will never have a chance of rolling with the big dogs if you become adjusted to this way of 'Role-playing.' rolleyes

One concept that stands for all newbies, according to me, is this. You will not be respected if you are a L33t speaking, SPAMming, ignorant Gaian. (This, of course, applies to Gaians who are not new, too.) 3nodding

How to Quest AND do it Nicely

Okay I have been seeing that people have not been questing in a very nice way so this lesson will tell you how to quest so that you might get more help.First of all I will start by saying that a quest is when you want to get an item, but will need some help getting it.Now whatever item, big or small, you will have to be nice to get help from your fellow gaians. Now rember to read how to type using that will also help so you might want to read that lesson before this one.

QUESTING FOR YOUR ITEM. To start your quest go to the charity forum and make a post, then say what you are questing and how much help you will need. This is what a good post would look like. "I am questing for the rainbow toe socks. Now because I do not have much gold I might need your help,so would you please help me out by donating a small amont of gold so that I can reach my goal?
Thank you all very much!!"

FIND OUT:How much is the item you are questing,a good place to find out is the store you saw it at...or go to the market place, you could get a better deal on it there. What does it look like on my avi,to find this out go to the store where you found the item ,and try it on to make sure you really like it on your avi.

Controversy
Gaia's a big place, so it's rather obvious that we're not all going to get along perfectly or share the same ideas. Here's a quick guide on how to disagree with someone without getting flamed like crazy.

Spelling Counts
People are far more likely to listen to you if you use concise language and proper grammar. Again, you don't have to be perfect--they are likely to be more than a few errors in this guide. However, you most certainly must type using the shift key and give each sentence no more than one exclamation point.

Make a Clear Point
State your own opinion and give a few reasons for why you believe in it. No matter which forum you're in, you still have to show your reasoning. (Yes, even in the Chatterbox.)

Respect Everyone Else
No matter how incredibly stupid you think someone's point is, you still have to show them respect. Everyone here's familiar with the golden rule, right? "Treat everyone how you want to be treated." This applies here, too.
Also, your point isn't automatically correct. No matter how strongly you believe in it, you must keep in mind that there's a chance that you're wrong. That means that even a person whose beliefs are exactly opposite of yours could be correct, and so you have no right to post something like "Ha ha! You're an idiot! That's stupid!" I don't care if they post that we descended from leprechauns, they could be right.

Ignore Flames
'Fraid to say it, but no matter what you do, there's likely to be a person who flames you anyway. The best thing to do in that case is to ignore that person's post altogether. The worst thing you could do is counter-flame them, because that'll simply start a flame-war, and those are no fun to be caught in the middle of.

Idiotic PMs
You can bet that the second you get some clothes on and post a bit, some new Gaian is going to PM you asking for items or gold. In many cases, the PMs are extremely stupid, and some are even scams. Look at whatever they're asking about--usually gold or asking if they can simply "see" such-and-such item--and then reply telling them that under no circumstances are you going to give them this. Use clear, strong wording without flaming them. If they PM you back begging once more or attempting to haggle, delete their message and forget about them entirely.

Note: This isn't just a guide for nOObs. Every issue stated above applies to everyone, and it'd probably help you out to take it to heart.

Knowing the Exchange

The Exchange is one of Gaia's many features- Widely used by almost every Gaian, and several thousand each day. But that doesn't mean there will be someone who will have the item you are looking for, or wanting to buy it. And even if there is, this doesn't give you a large berth (Moving Space) to mold the Price. Most of the time it's a Auction off. How high they will buy it, but occasionally there is a Bid off which is when people list how low they will go, then the best deal usually wins.

To function properly in the Exchange you must learn yourself in those. Although people will not mind a Lone Newb walking throughout the 'Halls' of Gaia. If you understand my meaning- They WILL mind if you ask a Obscenely large amount of Gold for an item that is worth a large amount less. So to help Sellers and Buyers, there are several Price guides on Gaia. Although you CAN decide your price no matter what. You shouldn't set it to how you'd like it, but how others would. If you set an item for low, then it should be picked up fairly fast, although if it's higher, only those extremely Desperate will come, and mind you. If you are considerate to others on things of that nature, then you will gain momentum fairly easily. If you set prices for very high, then you will rarely find someone, as aformentioned.

Experience, DON'T LIE

Now, I understand the fact that sometimes, Newbies get sick and tired of everyone making fun of them. Flaming them horrendously and telling them off just because they can. And I, as most others will understand that most of you will lose your tempers (Even I have at times!) Although you will on instinct try and defend yourself. There will be times when you should and shouldn't. And words, once said will bring you down.

I'm not here to discoruage exploration of Gaia, or to encourage you leaving the site. That's the opposite of what we would like to do! But I should explain, Sometimes there will be a case, that may offend you so much you want to do everything in your power to ensure pain upon those afflicting you with that Anger. Now, not always will you completely flip out. But sometimes, things are said that you wish weren't, and you must realize they won't go away, and even if you delete the messages don't think they aren't ingraved upon the heads' of those angering you.

Other than swearing incoherently, most common the, "Age" card is played. By age I don't mean, "im oldr n' bigger then u nd im gunna c** kik ur a$$!!!" I mean when they tell how stupid you are and tell you to learn more about Gaia before you proceed on, what is common to here is this,

Actual Conversation piece:

Quote:
first off, i've been part of gaia since it started second i've already sold a few guantlets for over 20k this week................fyi, guantlets were 17k two weeks ago stare

You may feel you will have to lie simply to express, "I may be a Newb but I don't want everybody pounding on me, so leave me alone!" And Selling or accomplsihments you've made. Ultimately those will lead to your downfall. Lying on a website where everything is traceable is a horrid idea. When caught how embarrased will you be? And even more angered that they proved you wrong. Take it slowly, if you feel offended wait. By speaking to them more you ar eonly fueling their fire. If you don't do it when you're a more experienced player on Gaia, then there might be a chance for most of it to stop. I must profess, though. Although I was once One of those, a member of the GGNG, the infamous Gaian Grammar Nazi Guild and would flame anyone I could whenever I could. I realize how cruel it is. No body enjoys it. Only those Victimizing them will. Don't share the Hate. Share the love. If someone is making fun of you out of the blue just leave the thread or ignore them. If you're not talking they will usually stop, or start swearing, but know this: You beat them, you won! You had the Mind to leave when it was a good time to leave! So listen. It WILL work!.

Vending

How does everyone get so much gold?

Okay, I’m sure you’ve heard this term at least once during your time on Gaia, but may not know what it means or how to go about it.
Vending is the term for what you do at the marketplace - buying and selling.
It is a fast way to get gold, and lots of it, but you have to know how to do it properly.
First, you need your vending license.
Go to the ‘Community’ section and the ‘Trade’ sub-section. This will take you to the Bank of Gambino. You will need 1,000 gold to buy a vending license, and the screen should look like this at the top when you have enough:

User Image

After you’ve bought it, you will be able to buy and sell items in the marketplace.
Now, you always want to have some gold handy.
If you don’t have much gold, I would suggest having at least 10k handy to buy items with.
You find the most popular items, within your price range, and buy the cheapest one.
So, if you only have 5k, don’t get bummed out because you can’t buy a dark halo, just find something cheaper.
Then, once you’ve bought it, sell it for just a tad more than you bought it for.
Don’t jack the prices up too much, otherwise no one will want to buy it and you will be hated for causing artificial inflation. If you don’t know what that is, be patient and read the next lesson, because it will be explained.
So, say you buy a Bunny Luv for 3k, which is a bit below the market price.
You would then turn around and re-sell it for around 3.3k. You wouldn’t want to go higher than 500g more, since this particular item is inexpensive.
If you have more gold on hand, like say, 100k, you could buy a Demonic Pitchfork for 73k and sell it for up to 74.5k.
So it really depends on the price of the item as to how much you re-sell it for.
DO NOT think we condone creating artificial inflation; we believe in very small price increases.
Vending can be a slow process, so don’t be discouraged if you only make 400 gold after a sale.
When you are selling an item, make sure you DON’T put a comma in your amount.
You fill in your price when the screen looks like this:

User Image

And in the “Buy Now Price” section, do not put a comma. The comma will tell the system to stop reading, so if you put 12,000 instead of 12000, it will only sell for 12 gold.
Make sure that when the confirmation page comes up, you check your prices to make sure they are correct. There’s a reason for that page.
Now, not everyone will abide by this rule, so occasionally you’ll see something that should be expensive go for a really low price.
I’ve heard of an OMG going for 650 gold because the seller put a comma in the amount and didn’t check over their prices before selling.
So, be on the lookout for deals like this.
Now you are ready to go into the marketplace and take it by storm.
Good luck vending! ^_^

Artificial Inflation

What is artificial inflation, and why is it so bad?

Artificial inflation was mentioned in the previous lesson, so I figured I might as well explain what it is.
Inflation is the natural increase in prices in a market when the amount of currency is increased and the economy is doing well. So inflation, to a certain extent, is a good thing. It means everything is working like it should.
Artificial inflation is NOT a good thing.
Artificial inflation ( AI ) is when a group of people buy items and re-sell them at ridiculous prices for their own personal gain.
The ’03 and earlier ’04 items have been affected the most by AI lately, and the prices have jumped up enough to discourage a lot of questors.
The admins, once upon a time, jumped in and stopped all guilds and groups creating this problem when it happened a few years ago, but now that it is happening again, they say it’s just free trade and they won’t interfere.
So, we are stuck paying stupidly high prices for items that shouldn’t be near the prices they are at all because a group of people are extremely greedy.
If you would like to see a price guide that incorporates natural inflation, visit the W.A.M.M. PriceGuide for the prices items should be.
If you think this is unfair, as we do, sign the petition here and help put a stop to it.
Hopefully the admins will step in again and put an end to this AI once and for all, and we questors won’t have to pay crazy prices for our items.

A Safer Gaia for All

After coming back to Gaia from a prolonged hiatus I am dismayed to find that there seems to be a surge or scamming going on. Here's a few tips to help avoid getting scammed/hacked/or just tricked.

Hacking

Explantion:

Hacking is when another Gaian gets your password and name and access your account without your permission. Often they will transfer all of your gold and items to their account and change your password so that you can't access your account.

What to look for:

The only way that you can be hacked is if you give your password out. People will try to get it by posing as mods, sending you to other websites that will ask for your password, or promising a lot of gold if your send all of your account information.
No mod will ever ask for your password. If someone threatens to delete you for not giving them your password they are lieing. I cannot stress enough the importance of never ever telling anyone your password no matter what they tell you.

What to do if you are hacked:

If your account is hacked then there's really only one thing to do; create another account and fill out a hacking report. If your password is stillt he same or if your are able to use the password retrieval system to get the new one sent to your e-mail acocunt then access your own. If possible, take screen shots of any PMs in which the hacker contacted you. After you've done that fill out this form:

http://www.gaiaonline.com/gaia/report.php?r=1

Scams

What it is:

Scamming can be hard to prove. One of the most common types of scams are faulty lotto threads. Another form would be agreeing to lend an item to someone and then not getting it back. Scams are very hard to prove but they're not as disastrous as a hacking because you won't lose everything you own.

How to avoid scams:

My advice on this would be to simply not enter lottos and to not lend items to people. But if you do then keep screenshots of all PMs and trades so that you'll have proof of your agreement. If you've done that you'll be able to fill out the proper form and report the scam.

What to do if you are scammed:

Your only real recourse to a scam is to fill out the form and contact a mad about it.

Here's the form:

http://www.gaiaonline.com/gaia/report.php?r=2

Tricks

"Check the Marketplace"
Essentially this will always be done through a PM. Another user will ask you if you want to trade an item of yours (usually worth around 10k) for one of theirs. The most commonly used items for this are obscure housing items that most people haven't heard of. The user will tell you that "... if you don't know what [the item they're trying to trade you] is check the marketplace." That user then generally uses a few mule accounts to put versions of their cheap item on the market place for jacked up prices making it seem as if the item is valuable.

To avoid this situation check the price of any item offered to you in trade with a third party or try to find it in a store to check its price.
