Dilly was ecstatic the day she arrived in the Cherry Tree Grove. She was going to see the king and petition him to allow her to take cherry pits back to Tirtin Village. Her village was home to almost every type of plant and tree on the island, with one conspicuous absence. They didn’t have a cherry tree.
Upon her arrival in The Grove Dilly felt she was under some sort of spell. She’d never actually seen a cherry tree before, but from the moment she laid eyes on them she was in love. They were beautiful, and she could see why the king guarded them so jealously.
Entering his court she wondered exactly what she would have to offer to get him to part with only a few seeds.

Silva sat on the throne, one made of sticks twined together in an artistic manner with a few gems added in. Actually he didn't sit. He never "sat" he lounged, one long leg hanging over the arm rest, a glass of cherry wine held casually in one hand. His narrow gold eyes narrowed slightly as he looked her over.
"I get visitors once in a while," he said. "Usually they want something from me. The rest of the time, though, they like to pretend I don't exist. I prefer it that way. So what do you want, darlin? Because I know for a fact you're not one of mine."

“Please, Sir.” Dilly began politely. “I don't want something from you.” She smiled sweetly, hoping to soften him a little. “I am a grower from Tirtin Village, and I’ve come to ask you for some cherry pits. The only cherry trees that grown on the island grow in your court. . .”
She paused for a moment, once again to admire she surroundings, before plowing onward.
“The growers of Tirtin collect plants from all over the island, and we would be delighted to have a cherry tree.”
((Small edit: I ment to say "do want something from you". Sry. )) Nevermind XD

"That does sound like you want something to me," he said, motioning to one of his guards. "Get her a drink, would you?" he said.
Soon she was presented with a cup of cherry wine. "You say you've got plants from all over the island, right? Peaches? Bananas? What all do you have?"

Dilly accepted the cup awkwardly, she’d never seen cherry wine before and didn’t know if she’d like it any.
“Yes Sir, we possess almost every type of plant on the island. Many fruits and vegetables; carrots, bananas, turnips, peaches, numerous berries, and every flower you can name and then some.” She told him proudly.
Gazing up at the king while waiting for his response made her quite nervous, and she hesitantly took a sip of the wine. It was wonderful; fruity and tangy and sweet, with some bite to it. And it only made her desire the cherry plants even more. She was nearly willing to trade her soul to have them.

"Then it sounds like you don't need one more," he said, taking another drink of his wine. "There's a reason there are only cherry trees right here, you know," he said. "I could lie and tell you it's the weather, or something in the dirt, actually--" He took another drink. "That might be the case. But the real reason there are only cherry trees here is because--"
He leaned forward. "I don't share." There was a little, dangerous look on his face. "Unless it's with my own, that is."

Dilly was too frightened to admit she was frightened. She stared at the king, hopes shattered, wondering if there was anything . . . anything that would change his mind.
“B-but Sir,” she stammered. “T-there must be something that can be done. Some trade made that will bring the cherry tree to Tirtin?”

"There is one trade that can be made, so that you can have cherry trees," he said, leaning back and taking another sip of his wine. "You can change home towns. Then you'll have all of the cherries you want. But you'd be trading in all those other fruits and vegetables for it."
He grinned, a slightly cold grin of amusement. "But in order to have these cherry trees you have to deal with both the hut brats and the pirate brats every day."

Dilly was torn. She wanted those cherry trees more than anything in the world, but leave her beloved Tirtin? Her gardens? Zee? Did she really want cherry trees that badly? She though for a moment longer before speaking.
“I propose a bargain.” She said slowly.

"I'm listening," he said. It was a lazy drawl that promised nothing, but his golden eyes were on her, waiting patiently.

“I will come to The Grove and serve you in any way you see fit with my abilities. In exchange you will allow me to return to Tritin to retrieve my possessions and send a gift to the village of a parcel of cherry pits.” She paused, and set her cup to the side. “Think about it, Sir.” Dilly told him breathlessly. “A trained grower in your court in exchange for some paltry cherry pits.”

He thought about it. "One pit," he said. "And I make no promises that it'll grow," he added honestly. "The brats have stolen my cherries before, but none of their pits grew into trees."

“If it doesn’t grow, then I get to return home.” Dilly said instantly. “I won’t have this gift wasted. It’ll have an entire growing season, if it has not sprouted by the end of that season then I get to return to Tritin and give up on the notion of cherry trees. Deal?”

"You don't trust your famed growers to make it work?" he asked, teasing her evilly as he chewed on his toothpick. "Fine. If it doesn't grow, you go home. Until that season is over, though, you work for me."
"And this is a small tribe here, so you'll have to have your house made. You might want to bring something to pay my builder with. She likes gems, or, since you're coming from such a great place, fruit and wood."

“Oh, I trust them.” Dilly assured him. “It’s you I don’t trust. And I will bring gifts for your builder.” She turned to leave, but looked back. “I look forward to my time here with your trees, Sir.”
