Brightstar slowly woke, uncurling from her comfortable position. She stretched, before getting up, peering out of her den. Cautiously, Brightstar took a step outside, then walked outside her den, sitting right outside of it. Her light yellow fur stood out against the green grass, and she observed her clan quietly.

Featherkit startled awake to the screech of an over-passing hawk. She raced outside to catch a glimpse of its red-feathered tail before it vanished. Featherkit sighed, and glanced around to see if any other WindClan cats were awake. She spotted Brightstar and padded over to the she-cat.
"G'Morning!" Featherkit meowed in her slurred kit speech.

"Morning." Brightstar grinned, standing up and playfully nudging Featherkit with her paw. "Sleep well?" She asked, yawning softly.

Tigerstripe padded out of the den, his back arched in a stretch. He padded over to Brightstar. He rubbed his head on Featherkit as a hello. "My daughter isn't bothering you, is she?" he mewed to Brightstar.

"No, just some pleasant company right now." Brightstar grinned, standing up and padding over to Tigerstripe. "I'm sure Featherkit is getting eager about the idea of being an apprentice soon." She mewed with a smile, nudging Featherkit softly.

Featherkit purred as her father rubbed his head on her. She felt her eyes widen as Brightstar said 'apprentice'.
"I can't wait!" she mewed with delight, "Although I 'ave a few more moons to go...."

"Only two more," Tigerstripe said. He crouched down and said quietly into Featherkit's ear, "And I can teach you apprentice stuff early. As long as you don't tell your mother." He knew that Brightstar had heard him, but it was common for kits to be taught early, so that they were more ready to be an apprentice.

"Just two more moons, and you can be apprenticed. Maybe you'll be the next great warrior!" Brightstar said playfully with a grin, padding over to the freshkill pile, grabbing a mouse.

Featherkit jumped enthusiastically at her father's words.
"I know I'll be the next great warrior!" she mewed at Brightstar, her eyes flashing with confidence. "I'll train real hard and maybe be leader some day too!"

"I'll soon have to start thinking about who will be your mentor....but I'm sure they'll train you so you will be the next great leader." Brightstar flashed a grin, finishing up her mouse.

Swiftkill had just slid his way out of the warrior's den. He squinted as his eyes got accustomed to the bright light of the day. As he opened them, he glanced over at the freshkill pile. "Right after dawn patrol I'll send a hunting patrol out." He said to himself. He saw Tigerstripe and walked over to him. "I really hate seperating him and Featherkit like this but it has to be done." He thought as he sat beside the three cats. He waved his tail in greeting to his leader and Tigerstripe and touched Featherkit's head lightly with his paw. "What do you say I take your dad away to lead a dawn patrol?" He asked the eager kit, glancing at Tigerstripe as he did so.

Tigerstripe nodded slightly over Featherkit's head. He looked down at the small kit and said, "Featherkitl, I have to go on dawn patrol. Can you stay out of trouble for a while?" He smiled. That would be a hard thing to accomplish.

"Don't worry, Featherkit can follow me around for a while if she wishes." Brightstar mewed, glancing at the kit. "Sleep well Swiftkill?"

"Not as well as I had hoped." Swiftkill admitted. He stretched and sat back up. He turned to Tigerstripe. "As soon as the dawn patrol returns I will lead a hunting patrol." He informed him, wondering who he was going to take on the patrol.
