ok so everyone still here wants one, but i've never put one together so any suggestions? what does everyone want in a RPG? you want a game with more Stats based or more RP? Scarlet Jile's RPG never took off probably cause he's super busy... lmk

I'd prefer a more stat-oriented RP. Any other opinions?
I don't have any suggestions to give off of the top of my head, but I may think of some things later.

Honestly I'm a big Rp guy. Both with stat systems in the for of table top Rpg's and with type text Rp play and honestly though I really like the structure of stat based role playing most forum sites that I go to that try to impose such rigid structure end up slowing down and dying. So in my opinion a loose Rp forum style might be more successful. As for a story setting idea...I'll work on it and get back to ya. mrgreen

Good timing, I was actually about to start remaking the roleplay I had posted a while back, using information that I got from one of our newer members, jguy, who had actually been a part of the insiider RP system.

I know the big thing that stood out was how people earned their Dream Creatures. Cliff notes version: The mods grant people chances to fight various DCs, and with enough fights/victories, you can earn the DC. The rare DCs were obviously not given out in fights very often, and Hyrens even more so.

For the actual game, on one hand, I'd like it to be kind of a loose RP style thing. On the other though, I want stats to come into play at least sometimes. Like during battles or if you're trying to avoid being squished by a Ballistic Baldar.
For characters, as long as you can use original characters, and weapons, I'm fine with whatever.
For it's setting, as long as it makes sense in relation to it's time frame in relation to the original story, if that makes any sense what so ever. xd

Way back when, when this guild was still young (and I was much more active than I am now). We discussed bringing a RP setting into the guild and I worked together a loose stat-based but RP focused system. If you all would like, I can rummage through my files and see if I can find it again, if for nothing else than an idea.

That sounds like a good idea.

Is that the same one that's in the subforum? ('Cuz that one scares me.)

I don't think so. That one is more recent.

The rules posted in the RPG forum are those introduced by Scarlet Jile himself (and way more complex than anything my little brain could come up with wink ). I'm currently reworking the rules I had made those years ago to make things streamlined as they're all in brainstorm files that are pretty...disjointed. So far we're looking at a few basic things

Region- (Rather obvious)
Energy/Energize-
Creatures tamed-
Spells Known-
Relics owned-

I'm slightly wishy-washy about doing a truly stat-based system, as those never quite meet the expectations for an on-line experience. If enough of you decide that we definately need to have them, I have a set I can post.

Region- Regions will have their own bonus and flaw, a list I'm compiling as I type this up. Any suggestions for those would be most appreciated. In addition, there will be other regions they're easier 'compatible' with, and some they're directly opposed to, which I'll explain better in the very near future (Maybe even later tonight).

Energy/Energize- About as simple as it sounds, each region has its own starting rates for the above, which I'll allow a small measure of customization to.

Creatures Tamed- I'll allow up to two creatures at generation, with a small number restricted from each region, mostly the Hyren but also a few other ones too powerful for the new Magi we'll be playing.

Spells Known- Again, up to two at generation, all from ones own region or universally known (unless there's a very good reason). Certain very powerful spells will again be restricted from early characters.

Relics Owned- Only one will be allowed at generation, and that will be with a pretty good reason. Many Relics are considered unique (IE: Rayje's battlegear, specific Magi's rings, Agram's gear, etc.) and as such, will not be availiable without extremely good reason.

As of right now, that's what I'd expect to see. I have an opening plot line in my head and certainly won't mind any help being offered to finish this up. I'm currently working on:

Region bonuses/flaws
Compling list of known dream creatures
Compiling list of Known Spells
Compiling list of Known Relics
Bridging the time gap between the Nightmare Construct and the current age

Looks good. So you're leaning, at the moment anyways, to having energy be the main stat, and the others only if needed? Seems like it should work, as long as people can keep track of things. (For instance, a Carilion will generally be stronger than a Xyx Minor, even with a few levels handicap, but which is stronger, a Stagadan or a Jile? Close ones like that speak in favor of having solid stats, but too many would bog it down in number-crunching. Personally, I'd just as soon go without stats unless actively needed, leave it to roleplaying skill to handle things, that and general knowledge.)

The Role-play is the key, as it should be on any online game. Die rolls and rules will tend to bog things down explicitly. Energy/Energize and a little something to make each region unique will end u being the backbone of the statistics based play, but in the end, it will depend heavily on the creativity and ingenuity of those running in it.

As far as personal stats, BESM's tristat system could work farily well

Body- Physical prowess, leanings one way or another are up to the individual character (IE. agility or strength or a pleasant balance between)

Mind- Mental powers, intelligence, wits, more than likely factors in the learning and casting of spells

Soul- Spirit, Charisma, those intangible 'somethings' that people often have. Will most likely matter when dealing with Dream Creatures

As far as ease of play, I'm kind of leaning on something with that, giving a set number of points to build upon a template from each Region involving the above, energy, and energize.
