Okay, random title. But this, my friends, is a what-if thread.
What if your characters had children?
Excluding the ones who do, that is. I got to thinking about this after talking with my Gorillaz buddies about what Murdoc's daughter would be like - and how he'd treat her. She ended up a spoilt brat who totally manipulated him. But anyway, here's some questions to think about:
If your character had a daughter/son/twins... ...what would they be like? ...how would they treat them? ...how would the kid/s treat THEM? ...how would they cope?
I'll answer this in a while. I need to eat some peas right now.

Did someone say d8? Well, none of the characters in my current story have children, so here goes: If the Princess had children, they would be spoiled rotten brats. Frederick's children would be better behaved, although they wouldn't get to see him very often. Patrick's children would be poor and hungry, and he'ld be even scrawnier, and possibly showing signs of severe malnutrition if not outright starvation. The Royal Alchemist's children would be smart, assuming they survived the stage where they drank unlabeled potions...

This is a good one. X3
Randy- He would probably have a lot of fun if he had kids since his maturity level is about that of a ten-year-old. I can see him sitting on the floor with them (he would have a big family) and playing video games or something. He might get a little gray from stress and probably a pudge. I think Randy is probably the character I'd trust most with children. This makes me almost want him to live. <->;;
Dyv- This makes me laugh. I can't see Dyv with any little implets to feed, but if he did have them, I'm thinking he'd have a daughter. He would ignore her if at all possible, and she would resort to being a delinquent just for attention. She would end up just like him, bitter and alone.
Thyme- He would be a doting father to any child, though I think he'd have a girl (or trade for one) considering he hates males. She would mostly likely end up spoiled rotten if Thyme didn't teach her to behave.
This might end up as an experimental story series . . . Thanks a lot, Oolie. ><;

Well, I think all of my characters already have children, with the exception of the minor ones...and Mural. But Mural has a wedding soon. gonk
For the most part, the characters (mine and my friend's), are approaching the Third Generation. Yukio's son is dating Zarr's daughter, and they're probably gonna marry once they've been out of school for a bit (I think he's 17 and she's 18, now). rofl
So leaving Mural as the only one late to the party (well, not so much...he falls into the "adult" group, but he's only 23)...I really don't know what he'd be like with a child. He keeps waffling between doting on his wife and totally ignoring her, so I think he'd be the same with a kid.
I can't picture it. gonk

Oh, dear. The odd thing is, even though I've never thought of this, it all seems pretty clear. And... not many good parents in my lot, that's for sure.
Kita would be a terrible parent. She would neglect her kid or kids until a) they died b) DSHS took them away or c) they turned into creepy feral little things.
Feragel wouldn't be much better. He'd either have any kids adopted, have b*****d children which he never acknowledged or, if there was no other way out of it, he would send the brats off to boarding school. Victorian boarding school. They would then go crazy or have exciting, Dickens-esque adventures.
Fox, in protest at having female anatomy, would have a back-alley abortion. With a coat hanger. And probably bleed to death. Yes, I am cruel.
The Huntsman would be rather surprised, and send any kids off to be raised by fairies, probably Odile.
Ivan would be thoroughly surprised, as he has never slept with a woman (and, to my knowledge, never will) and, in true fairy-tale fashion, would send the poor kid to go live as a swineherd, but leave with them one trinket that would lead them to later discover their royal birth. *gag*
Robin, if he had a kid, would have a b*****d child from when he was 16 and slept with anything that moved. He would happily adopt the child and proceed to raise it so liberally that the kid, upon reaching the age of 18, would rebel and go join the empire, (or whatever I'm calling it) determined to wipe out the pirates. Again. Unless it was a girl, in which case she would become a society matron (in the empire) with her upbringing a dark secret haunting her to her death.

Okay, now that I've had time to think about it...
In response to kids, the kitsune men all act pretty much the same. You'd think they just came home one day and bang, there was a baby, the way they treat the situation. Their wives promptly push them out of their dens and send them off to get food, while they're still wandering around with faces like this: o_o?
Fubuki has lots of kids and he's good with kids, but apart from him, most of them would be totally at a loss. Shigure, I've often thought, would be exactly like his father - he'd have a huge family, and encourage sibling rivalry so that they can become the 'best' they can be. And he'd be strict; if one of his kids did something wrong, he'd hit them. I'm sure of it.
Shin's kids would rule him, I know it. X3 And he would never be able to say no or stop them from doing what they were doing, because he's too nice. After a while they'd just run wild with their mother chasing after them with a rolling pin while Shin would just collapse from exhaustion. Hee hee hee.
Azrael is not to be trusted with kids. He'll make them go totally WILD. Just by being around. I can't imagine him with his own kids, only being that weird uncle that the parents hate to visit, but the kids ADORE. And he wouldn't even change his behaviour, either - he'd just swear and talk about sex and drink and smoke just as much with children as he does with adults. That might be why they like him.
~Hee hee hee~

gonk See... I've already thought about it for two of my characters. It actually changed them enough that one has a regular storyline child now, and the other has an AU-type story with the kid!
Seishak wouldn't know what the hell to do, being the father of a b*****d and all. He'd want to be a good father, but he'd be at a loss on how to do it... especially since, when he does end up with the kid, it's because the mom refuses to raise a necromancer child. xd But he loffles his son, and alternates between spoiling him and being really stern.
He wouldn't be the kind of parent that lets the kids run the household, especially not with his anger management skills (or lack thereof). If Lucian did something to really ******** up, he'd know it, because Daddy would be on his case about it with yelling, possibly some hitting, and severe punishments including but not restricted to magickal means.
Kris... now, THERE'S a devoted father. His son, Callista, is quite literally his reason for living in an alternate storyline. Let's not get into how it happened, especially since Kris is gay and a teenage daddy, but he found out he had a son and really changed. He dropped out of school and quit his partying and drugging to go earn money the only way he knew how - prostitution - so he could provide whatever he was capable of to raise Callista. He's the kind of person that never cared for small children until he had one of his own to look after 3nodding The whole unconditional love thing is big to him.
In fact, it was because of Callista that I found out what Kris would do if he ever got a "real" job. After meeting someone who's willing to give Kris and Callista a decent place to live and a stable two-father home, Kris actually blossomed into a fashion designer xd He strips the dye out of his hair and dresses a little more conservatively, and is a proud gay parent who teaches his son that there's no shame in loving someone, no matter who they are.

Erin would only pay enough attention to a child to keep it alive. sweatdrop She's better as an aunt... the kind of aunt that the parents don't want anywhere near their child. Ever. Because she curses and drinks and talks about sex and drugs. xd

@ MaRu: I have a cousin of sorts named Callista.
Let's see, now. If Vitae had kids, he'd probably only have one. I've often imagined him as a single parent for some reason, with all the other characters constantly trying to figure out who the child's mother could be, as they've never met her, and Vitae never talks about her. At any rate, Vitae would do all he could for the kid--I think he'd do best with a daughter. They'd probably have to go without more often than not, especially with Vitae's lack of professional skills and not knowing how to cook anything aside from chicken noodle soup. During the early years he'd probably rely heavily on Sabine and Yinda to help him not to, you know, die of stress. I'd imagine he'd be pretty distant even as a father, so no heart-to-heart chats. He'd shelter the kid like crazy, probably straight to the point of living somewhere in the wilderness of the southern mountains. Eventually the kid would have to care for him as he dies of tuberculosis. biggrin If the kid was a boy, the name would be Arvid; if a girl, Poet. Everyone else would call her Poe.
If Nathan had a kid, oh boy. It would take a major slip of judgement for that to even happen. And the battle to get him to admit he was the father would be perfect fodder for the Jerry Springer show, even if the kid was born blonde (and yes, Natey'd get his a** kicked on-stage in front of God and everyone). Again, I see him as raising the kid alone, as the mother probably just got too pissed off to deal with him anymore. The kid would grow up completely spoiled--think lavish birthday parties, weekly shopping trips, designer clothes...the works. The kid would probably wind up rebelling the the way rich kids do, by dating a sleazebag and snorting crack. The whole time Nathan would just go, "Here darling, have five thousand dollars and a box of condoms. See, I'm a cool dad! biggrin " If the kid turned out to be a mage, it would only make matters worse, partly since Nathan would rip out his own toenails with a red-hot pliers before sending a child of his to the Citadel for schooling. This would doubtless lead to some kind of lawsuit as he's not currently and never will be deemed qualified to take on an apprentice.
Of course, Nathan could just turn around and do something unexpected, like panic at the thought of being a father, move in with Sabine, stop man-slutting around and actually raise a well-balanced child. I suppose it really depends on how self-assured he's feeling at the time.
Yinda would never have kids of her own unless she had them with Vitae, being terrified of childbirth and all that. Instead, she'd collect a whole gaggle of little urchins off the street and start a small orphanage in the spare rooms of the family inn. She'd groom, educate, and otherwise prepare the kids to be contributing members of society, and then hook them up with friends of the family, either to be adopted or apprenticed. The kids would probably adore her, as she'll never quite grow out of being a kid herself, and she'll always be a very small person. She'd give the kids noun-names like Castle and Loofah. If anything happened to any of the other characters, their kids would automatically be sent to live with Yinda.
Any kids Sabine might pop out would be horrifying little Beeny-clones, probably with lisps. I'm seeing a bratty little redhead in a pink dress--and her name is Bliss. Sabine would probably have lots of kids. Lots of very healthy kids. She'd constantly be up to her neck in things to do, and somehow still manage to work her job as herbalist and midwife. And her husband would, I dunno, work some kind of job. As a stagehand, maybe. >>;
Jericho would probably wind up in a shotgun marriage ("a matter of wife or death") after fathering a b*****d child. At which point he would go, "o_o; How do I be good dad?" (having had no father of his own). But he would somehow manage to pull it off, and the kid would just love the stories of his various adventures as a Border Guard. The kid would also, naturally, wind up with Auntie Yinda and Auntie Sabine to look after them on occasion (most likely to help out the child's mother while Jericho is off being a Border Guard), and possibly Uncle Nathan to send magical trinkets, large sums of money, and condoms as birthday presents.
And...yep, that's about it.

Oh, h'mm.
Janus probably wouldn't survive pregnancy. And I don't even want to think how her child would turn out if she did, because I don't think there's any intervening force that could stop her from smoking, drinking and doing drugs, even if she had a tyke in her tummy. She'd take care of it, though, and if the father wasn't around would probably move back with her parents and have them help. I have no clue what kind of names she'd pick out.
Arcisan would definitely marry and start a family. And I'd say he would father several children by his cousin, who he has A Thing for but isn't rebellious enough to go out and marry. So they'd just mutually pretend that his cousin's husband was the real dad. He'd be a pretty harsh father and would pick favorites, but it's not like he'd beat them on a regular basis or anything. He'd just be really rigid.
Ania's occupation doesn't last forever so she'd probably eventually marry and have a family regardless. I think she'd be a disgruntled mom and a really harpish and busybody mother-in-law in later years. Never completely pleased with anything and all that.
Leon, if he married say, an herbalist, would probably have lots and lots of daughters. He'd name one after his mother, but other than that I don't know. I think being a dad would be good for him, since it would force him to make emotional connections with other people.
Victor would either abort any prospective children, or, uh, maybe give it to Leon. In any case she wouldn't keep it.
Though I'd never write about any children of my characters, AU or not. Those stories tend to be pure and unbridled chunks of writers loving their characters too much.
Now I want to go play The Sims, where a lot of the above has already happened. xd

Ah, yes, the sims. Don't spend all that much time but my characters, but oh, well.
Anyways, this has opened my eyes up to the fact that Robin does have kids. Lots of 'em. And he and Fox adopt them, and I think their entire story is Fox narrating to the grandkids. Holy crap, so many grandkids. gonk Robin needs to learn how to use a condom.

[@Rain- If you're talking about me, the spelling has on one L~!]
Okays then~! Ahem. I'm going to start with Royoko and Karin's children since they're already married. I'm sure that they'll have about three kids. Then Karin's uterus(sp?) will stop working. :3 I've always dreamed of those two having twins. A boy and a girl. They will be, of course, extremely creepy. You can blame this on Karin since she'd probably take them out on her motercycle and provoke them to do the things that she does. This makes Royoko even more abused because he has to do more chores, take commands from his children, and get yelled at by Karin whenever the twins lie and say he was being mean. Poor Royoko!! Yeah. So these twins will be really mean to Royoko, and follow around Karin like she's a godess. Their third (and final) child shall be a baby girl!! At this point Karin is so obsessed with the twins that Royoko has to take care of the kid all by himself. Which is actually good because she becomes very nice, and a bit of a daddy's girl. But she still has Karin's rebellious side. She gets into fights a lot. But only with mean people.
Next is Hexx. Since he's only dating Luci (and I'm not sure if I should break them up or not) I'm doing those two seperately(sp?). Anyways, I think Hexx would only want one kid. Probably a boy. He'd just let him run around and be free. Or something like that. Well, to put it into detail he'd be really nice to his kid. But he probably wouldn't be around much since he's smart and is probably going to go get a job that makes him work all the damn time. Yay! Abuse for him~! Okay, so that kid is gonna grow up and run around like a little idiot and play in the mud. His mom will probably be a kind woman who is a stay at home mom. As he gets older he become smarter, but he'll never be as smart as his dad. Poor kid.
Luci time! Luci would marry a normal guy with a normal job and a normal house. She'll stop playing football and get into accounting or something. Then she'll get pregnant, and have two kids. A boy and girl. The boy will be a rather rebellious one. Hides porn under his bed, gets in trouble at school, the norm. The girl shall be a social outcast. Stays in her room, reads all day, doesn't like physical contact. All that kind of stuff. I'm sure that eventually Luci will have a massive breakdown, rip out her hair, and nearly kill herself. Then she'll wind up in the hospital. Yeah, she really has a sad future. If she marries Hexx she'll be happier. XD
Charlie...is gay. So he'll adopt. He's gonna adopt a black baby girl!!!! Or, would. But yeah. So she'll grow up happy, and have a good life cause she has such a nice father! Sorry...it's just soooo hard to abuse Charlie. ;-; Except for constantly dumping people, or getting dumped. He just can't sit still. XD
Time for Maye. Sniff! I feel like a father giving away his daughter. I just can't see her all grown up! Well, I can, but....you know. Anyways, Maye will probably have like...five children who fight a whole lot. She'll still love them and stuff, so they'll be okay. Though it'd be a pain in the a** to raise them. She'd probably be yelling a lot. Oh well~! She'll have to find a man who can put up with her first. They'd probably end up having a loveless marriage and breaking up after their children leave the house. Heh. I can abuse my favorite character, but not Charlie!?! I'm becoming sad. xD

Sooo... reconsidering a bit, it's cannon that Feragel has at least one kiddo. It's just that... the mother's male relatives attempt to force him into a literal shotgun marriage, and he kills them all (pregnant lady included) and leaves them in a ditch.
Indio, if he were to discover that that one chick he slept with when they were both 14 (underage FTW!) somehow managed to have a kid and track him down, he'd drag the whole mess onto Jerry Springer, complete with choreographed tantrums. Kita and Feragel would attend. Kita would end up pole dancing, badly. Feragel would get drug onto the stage amidst some rant (on Indio's part) about true love or some bullshit, and spend the entire time trying not to laugh his a** off and failing miserably. When the woman finally gave up and left, if the brat was not in tow, Indio would... raise him pretty much he raised his apprentice/protege, That Guy With Purple Hair. That is to say, badly.
