Yurimm Fairy Tales
by Hozuki Ruri and Shio Sakura

User Image

Ever wanted to see your favorite fairy tales with yuri? Here's your chance. Hozuki Ruri (story) and Shio Sakura (art) team up to redo some classic fairy tales girl-love-style, throwing in all-female casts, silliness, and lots of pretty artwork to complete the formula.

Each story in this "series" of tales is only a few pages long, and it's more like an illustrated story than an actual manga. It's an enjoyable read anyway, whether you like manga or reading good fairy tales...or both.

These illustrated fairy tales are released in issues of the yuri magazine Yuri Shimai/Hime and are being scanslated by Lililicious. Four pieces have been scanslated and four others have been translated, I think.

Hozuki definitely tweaks the stories around, though she sticks to the original formulas (not the Disney forms of the stories, I think, it seems like she's going by the original Grimm's, etc. stories). There are some really unexpected parts and endings, and the stories tend to be humorous but also very romantic (if a little insane). While we tend to expect that the princess and the princess will end up together and so on, they sometimes decide that something different should happen instead. Usually, though, this tosses into the pretty yuri fun so everyone's happy. 8D

These are a fun read if you're taking a short break or something, since they go by quickly.

    Rapunzel*
The Red Demon Who Cried "Moe!"
    Tsunderella
The Wolf-Girl and the Seven Kids*

    (* = scanslated)

Since most of us should know most of the stories, I don't think I need to summarize these.

As a side note to accompany this, I'll make note that Shio Sakura's girls are gorgeous. She can totally draw sweet, naive innocence, regality, and coy flirting really well. Some of the more boyish of those figures she draws are really hot too--especially the ones, for instance, who were male in the original stories or are just complete lady killers. ;]

Read these? Want to read them? What'd you think? I think every now and then the authors' humor escapes me and then I just think it's silly, but I do enjoy these anyway. They sometimes have very creative takes on the original pieces (and I like that they take from the original stories) and really throw in some unexpected curve balls.

Any stories you want to see them do? And, my favorite question...did you have any favorite characters from these? I know I totally did.

There isn't another splash image that's easily accessible for this purpose, so I'm posting the sized-down first page of Lililicious's scanslation of "Rapunzel" as a sample. For the full-sized page and the rest of the chapter (and stories), go look up Lililicious's projects.

Just to go along with the ever-famous Red Riding Hood picture that everyone loves to post.

I might have, but I selected those because they're specifically the ones that've been yuri-fied. XD So I was kind of insinuating at which of the yuri tales you liked best.

Okay okay so which of the stories/characters did you like best? =O 'Cause I'm so loving Shio's wolf girls, mm~ They're kind of seriously hot. The Empress from Princess kaguya was pretty freaking sexy too...I love that player-look she has, but she's serious too.

Yes but you can't say that others will not soon join the collection! XD

I must say that I too am a fan of the 'Shio's wolf girls'! Very amusing to read, and appealing to the eyes

I mean, I may not be the best person for computers, but this is frustrating. gonk

EDIT: Nevermind. I was being stupid. sweatdrop

How do you guys always manage to see a manga BEFORE I find it scanslated!? gonk

Anyone, I hope this is as beautiful as the picture indicates. heart

Oh, I hope you did manage to find it. Lililicious has a kind of confusing way of organizing their site (at least to me), but once you figure it out it's not too bad. Not all of the finished scanslations are under the "Finished Manga" section, since one-shots that are part of, say, an issue of a magazine tend not to be listed as "finished" because the entire issue they came in may not yet be finished.

I found the more reliable way to find some of the titles I like to read by going to the "Guide" section on the sidebar and scrolling through the list by authors. Some of these fairy tales that haven't been scanslated have been translated and those translations are posted in advance if you want to read them; that's how I read those. And since they're not actually manga, but illustrated stories, these are much easier to read without being actually scanslated. :]

I think all of these were completely gorgeous, not only in art but also in story a lot of times too. Hopefully you enjoy them as much as I did.

True, but "other" wouldn't tell me much anyway...though I might change it as new chapters get added or something, haha. Too lazy now though. Why, what's your favorite? Is there one you want to see done?

The good news is that I found it.

The bad news is that after downloading it, I can barely read the tex in the WIP file.

Anyway to enlarge the picture? sweatdrop

Can't say that I have a favorite fairy tail, but I must say I would love to see a yuri remake of Aladdin! (Though I think that falls more under the folk tail then Fairy Tale)

Change your monitor resolution temporarily? I had no problem with it, but then I vastly prefer small text to large.

If you're using Windows, you can right click on your desktop and change its properties. The "Settings" tab there will let you change your screen res. That might help.

I'll definitely go read this, but just a quick question before I start reading.

What exactly is the difference between "scanlated" and "translated"?

Translation simply means that someone has translated and posted some sort of translation of the text shown in the release. Scanslated means that a work has been translated and the translation has been edited into a (cleaned up) the original source comic or image, so that you can read it from the direct context in edited scans of the original manga.

"Scanslation" is usually only applied to fan translation and editing, but that's the idea. Works that are referred to as "translated" rather than "scanslated" generally only have the text translation out, unattached and apart from the scanned images of the comic release.
