I play Intermidiate tennis every Saturday and this week there were two seven or eight year olds there (they weren't that great but thats beside the point). And the whole time they were having a disscusion about Benny the puppy and other things on gaia. My friend Serina finally asked them if they were talking about Gaia. And there like "Duh! OMG do you have one? I mean like a G-A-I-A." and my friend kinda just backed away and we stayed away after that.

What do you think? Isn't it kind of sad the fact that some of the people on Gaia are under 12 and posting in fourms about who knows what. (I mean really have you seen what they talk about in GD, LD, ect.)

I guess it's hard for parents to monitor their childrens' internet use all the time. Not only children of that age, really--look at how many people posting and viewing risque material are all over the internet. It's tough to have to sit staring over your kid's shoulder every minute they're online, so I can understand the problem. Still...probably not the greatest idea to let a kid under twelve wander the net freely, so hopefully their parents are watching while they're on here. It is a PG-13-ish site.

I dunno, my personal irritations tend to be more like people being complete assholes just because they can. There are very few kids in that group; idiots tend to annoy me, but I often think that it's harder not to be stupid than it is to not be a jerk. XP

On my last account, I was cussed out by an 8-year-old.

I left for awhile. stare

The only reason I came back was because I knew a guild like this existed somewheres.

And the Literate Roleplaying Guild. That's a haven. whee

I laugh at little kids who try to curse me out. Then I tell their parents/report them. Or just intimidate them, which you'd think might be hard considering my size.

I'm glad you came back and joined us. :]

I don't mind younger kids being here, as long as they're mature for their age. You know, the kind who tell you how old they are... and you're all "NOWAI!" about it. I once met a 12 year old who typed better than I did... >.>;

However, any younger than 10 is ridiculous. :/ 8 year olds should be playing outside in the mud with other little 8 year olds. Not trolling Gaia for pr0nz.

Yeah thats more of the way I am because I started messing around on Gaia when I was 12, but yeah these kids should still be obsessing over Neopets, Webkins, ect. ect. Besides that my eleven year old sister types better then me . xd

I know exactly what you are talking about. It really pains me to see them youngsters joining in/starting on mature topics. They should be doing kid things, not getting pregnant and asking gaia what to do about it.

Kids these days have changed.

Most of the time nothing we can really do other than make the old man/woman pose and talk about "those kids and their mypods and their ispace" and jokingly wag a fist or an air cane at them.

Doesn't help the self-esteem when younger kids are doing something you do a lot (and even worse when the younger kids shouldn't be) but like I said before "those kids..."

I think it's mainly like Kage said. Parents can't watch over the kids all the time. The kids have to develop for themselves ultimately (albeit with help along the way). Just gotta hope there's still sanctuary for us "older folks".

It's scary, 'cause Gaia's not always so friendly. >_>; poor kids...blame their parents I guess.

But look on the bright side...they will learn how to type and spell :'D

Hm... Well I helped my lil bro get an account here :/ He's ten >.>;;
Haha but he's not one of those jerks who act all cool and mature and goes around cussing people out or being rude. At least I hope not XD And if he is and I find out... *cracks knuckles* Then he knows damn well what awaits him D<
But ya... I dunno... I wouldn't mind my little brother ending up in a discussion about pregnancy, drugs, etc. . Well the drug part he's seen in a negative way more than he ever should have, thanks to my other brother, but I think maybe he'll learn that way. I mean... Maybe if he reads about a 12 year old getting pregnant and not knowing what to do and asking for help, he'll think "Damn... She's Wayne's (my third brother) age.... The same age as Mr Immature himself!" and think things over better.
And I think as long as the kids still stick to their normal kid stuff (such as playing outside running around being annoying lil brats XD ) it's alright for them to hang here every once in a while.

Kids will be kids, it's a bit sad though knowing this. I mean eight year olds on gaia. It makes me wonder how they use there internet time besides Gaia Online. Along with that note the incredible fact that some of the forums I don't believe are appropriate for an eight your old. Not that I'm trying to be Miss Nanny or anything.

If you haven't noticed theres plenty of sex topics out there. I didn't even Know what a lot of terms meant till I was 13 or 14. Maybe I grew up knowing less who knows.

If not those forums what could they talk about? Well sure tv shows and Toys perhaps. I don't see what much els though could have to talk about though.

When I was eight I was playing with my stuffed animals and playing outside. Heck, computers were for rich people or businesses, back then. I have seen lots of things on Gaia that I think an eight year old shouldn't be seeing. Unfortunately, there is very little we can do about whether we like it or not.

Yeah, that was pretty much my life, too. =| I was too busy playing outside and going over to my friend's houses to give two thoughts about a computer. I didn't get on one of these machines 'til probably 12 years or 13 years of age. I wasn't literate enough, and definitely didn't know how to work a computer enough to do half the things I can do now. We got a computer way later than many people did, too.

And, well, 12-year-olds on Gaia doesn't bother me so much, unless it gets out of hand in the way that either the 12-year-old is learning things that are inappropriate and are acting on them outside of the web, or they are being complete morons and stirring up fights with anyone and everyone for useless, lame reasons or the simple fact that it seems entertaining to them and it feels like a game. I guess we can't really expect all parents to think of this, though, and unless parents do constantly monitor their children 24/7, they would never know that they were using GaiaOnline or anything else.

Internet is kind of a fishy subject in that way, because there's no defined age level that tells you when your child can use it - it's all up to you, and whoever is responsible for that child. It's pretty much about what they use it for, and what the parents believe when it comes to the web. Hopefully, they become aware of any issues that stir up on the 'net and were started by their kid or effect their kid in negative ways. I've never had issues, because anything that bothered me was always something I immediately talked to my parents about. I've got a pretty open-minded family.

Anyhow, it's probably unfair to ask people on Gaia to tone down the sexuality or the violence, because human rights and censorship are too murky for anyone to mess with and everyone has to draw a line for themselves. We're just not sure where the line stands anymore, when it comes to that, but Gaian moderators should maybe be watching out more for anything violating the rules. From what I see, they try to do that pretty often, but it's probably really hard to catch everything going on in all the forums.. Otherwise, I have no clue what can be done. > <' Kids seem to be able to do anything these days, and I find it sad that they'd rather hole up in a corner on the internet than play outside on a nice day. I'd give anything to have the chance to be innocent and focus on my dinosaurs and stuffed animals again. :{
