This is a ritual that I use and perform every time I do a Reiki session for myself or a family member. While this works for me, and is something that I added in, it is not something I was taught as part of my tradition. So when reading this keep two things in mind:
1: To perform Reiki you must be attuned by a master
2: This is my own ritual-keep it in mind
That being said let's begin.

I really like what you have here, and I do a lot similar. Cleansing the room is key, it makes healing a lot more natural. I never had much luck with candle magic, so I don't use them in Reiki. Why do you cleanse yourself after the ritual, shouldn't you do that before you start as to not accidentally pass on anything to the patient?

Obscurus I disagree with "1: To perform Reiki you must be attuned by a master." You have to be attuned by a master to be able to channel energy out of both hands equally, any one can channel energy out of their primary hand. Thats a big part of the attunement process for the first level, as well as being able to channel the Divine properly for healing. But I do agree that it can be done without, its just a heck of a lot harder than if you have it.

Obscurus I disagree with "1: To perform Reiki you must be attuned by a master." Its not Reiki if you haven't been attuned by a Master. Its part of the tradition and its lineage. Reiki is like Wicca in that all Reiki traditions and practitioners can trace their training lineage back to Miako Usui who created and founded Reiki as a practice. Anyone can learn to channel healing energy. However that does not make it Reiki. Reiki is a specific tradition and practice with specific symbols, hand positions, and ways of becoming a Reiki worker. With out the attunment you are not working Reiki. The attunment is like an initiation. It changes you and your way of viewing the world. It is this attunment which allows you to focus in and reach the same energetic field that Miako Usui did when he recieved Reiki.

Why do you cleanse yourself after the ritual, shouldn't you do that before you start as to not accidentally pass on anything to the patient? I was taught that it prevents you from picking up anything that the client had on them. Its brushing off their energy and making sure that the two of you are clean after the session. Energy attracts energy. So it seals in their healing and keeps the "bad energy" or what you were taking out of them from getting into you.

I'm not sure I believe the "attunement makes it so you can channel energy equally" thing but I can't exactly test it since I've already been attuned. Loona Wynd Obscurus I disagree with "1: To perform Reiki you must be attuned by a master." Its not Reiki if you haven't been attuned by a Master. Its part of the tradition and its lineage. I dispute the idea that it's not Reiki if you haven't been attuned by a master. The force you're using is still the same. The symbols and hand positions can be learned by anyone with an Internet connection. My opinion is that anyone that has experienced the Reiki force can learn to channel it with or without attunements. Anything done during the attunement is done by the Reiki force itself and given contact and experience with that force should manifest anyway, with or without the given ritual. A prime example being the extended study and emphasis on personal transformation found in the Eastern lineages. This is in opposition to the Western lineages where we seem very focused on healing, both other people and ourselves. Little attention is paid toward the spiritual progression involved in the practice here in the West. That's been my experience anyway; your mileage may vary. I've been attuned to Reiki, lineage and everything, and I'm convinced that the attunements are more of a way to solidify study than to actually allow someone to use Reiki. It's not like unlocking a door or giving someone a password. If anything it's a jumpstart. Then again, I'm not a stickler for stuffy traditions and I believe that anyone that makes contact with Reiki can harness it. All the other stuff probably just boosts efficiency.

My experience has been that while channeling Reiki for other people my own small blockages have been cleared. This I believe occurs as the energy works its way through me and my hand into my client (typically my fiance' or my mother). I feel both exhausted from doing the work of energy channeling and energetic from having some baggage erased. Obscurus I've been attuned to Reiki, lineage and everything, and I'm convinced that the attunements are more of a way to solidify study than to actually allow someone to use Reiki. Then again, I'm not a stickler for stuffy traditions and I believe that anyone that makes contact with Reiki can harness it. All the other stuff probably just boosts efficiency. I can say that for me it has been different. I am and always have been a natural healer. I have always been able to heal people and work with healing energy manipulation. The energy I used naturally for healing and the energy I use in a reiki treatment is completely different. While I do currently for myself practice a mixture of my personal healing practice and Reiki the practice changed substantially due to the reiki attunement, Reiki energy is a specific energy that really can only be channeled effectively through the hand positions and only when properly attuned. The attunement process is also a process of passing on power-the power to channel specific energy. In this case it is the energy of Reiki. There are many traditions in which the laying of hands in certain context extends power. Initiations into witchcraft are some as are the initiations into various priesthoods. Attunment to the energy of Reiki is one of those ways. Its also why I am distasteful of the Rand video watch this and follow my meditations and directions and be attuned Reiki practitioners. Through the attunemnt process the energy is experienced and thrown into your body. You are brought into vibrational alliance with that energy. Physically I actually got ill prior to my attunement, and this was so that the attunment process could actually cleanse and remove all the clutter in the way. I was through touch and breath brought spiritually vibrationally into alignment with Reiki energy. I was physically and spiritually altered after the experience. So I would say that yes our experiences have been vastly different.

Is it necessary to do hands-on healing or channeling practices? Nope.

I agree that with hands on healing atunement is not nessecary. It is nessecary for Reiki. Different healing traditions different practices. Reiki requires attunement. Others do not.

The difference is probably that I consider Reiki and all those other things to be using the same mechanism or force so I don't bother differentiating. All roads to Rome and such.

The energy used in IET and Polarity is not the same as in Reiki treatments. I have had all three types of treatments. I do reiki and I also do my own thing which is deviated from my Reiki training but has other things in it as well. All three are energy healing systems but only one is actually Reiki. Again it is the entirety of the system that makes it different. While Polarity and IET require some form of training to use properly, it is Reiki that has an initiation process.

Either way, my opinion as a lineaged Reiki initiate is that Usui was never attuned except by the Reiki force therefore anyone attuned by the Reiki force can do Reiki whether a Grand Poobah does it for them or not.
