Tee hee~ I didn't see a thread of petticoats, so I though that one needed to be made and find that this is the proper place for it! heart

A big help to our fellow lolitas (including myself) would be to post pictures of what petticoats are good for lolita and which are big no-nos. It's true that one can make their own petticoat, but others either cannot sew or don't have access to a sewing machine or even just want to skip that and buy one.

Some beginning lolitas looking to this guild for help will definitly appreciate it and even those ready take the plunge need to know what petticoat will best suit them and what website or where the best place is to purchase their petticoat!

I hope this will help everyone because it will certainly help me.

If you would please post your pictures of your petticoat, either with or with a skirt or both if you wish, and where you purchased your petticoat. Also if anyone has useful tips that would be lovely!

Just a note, the "NO SQUARE DANCING" rule is something of an exaggeration. You don't want the huge, full, 600 yard ones, for sure, but the petticoats sold by Candy Violet are, actually, light square dancing petticoats. I own one for an a-line Meta skirt I wear fairly often. I modified the petticoat so that it can be worn under cupcake-shaped skirts as well without having a triangular shape [Please ignore the weird sweater and socks, I hadn't bought anything to match the outfit yet but wanted to wear my new jumper...whee!]

Basically, the only thing to keep in mind with petticoats is whether the shape suits your skirt and it's volume. A puffy petticoat is going to look silly under a princess line dress from a classical brand, for example, and a princess line petticoat is going to look wrong under a cupcake skirt by a sweet brand. Also, a petticoat should support your skirt. It should fit without letting the skirt look too limp and without causing it to look strained or overstuffed.

What is the difference between a Princess Line dress/skirt and a Cupcake Skirt?

I really really like the Candy Violet petticoat, the very poofy one, because the pictures look just wonderful! But at the same time, I don't want to get a petticoat that will look all wrong under my skirts! (I don't have any skirts at the moment, but I really like those of Baby...)

I think i'm actually going to get one from ITS and Candy Violet. I love their frilly petticoat so, but the ITS poof looks very good. heart
