When I was thirteen, I was shy and didn't have the greatest self esteem. My mom put me in preforming arts classes to help me with my backwardness. Everyone figured that getting a part in a play and facing my shyness head on might help out. I had been in the classes for over a year and was still quiet as a mouse when the someone suggested doing Anne of Green Gables. I was super excited because a year before, I had studied it in the 6th grade and watched the movies, and liked them quite a bit.
We were going to go by script lines, and I tried out for the part of Miss Stacy first, because she has a significant part in the first two movies, but not a huge part. My teacher didn't think I was right for Miss Stacy, and she somehow managed to talk me into trying out for the part of Diana. We all know Diana is a huge part of the first two movies, what with being Anne's best friend and all. Well, after I really got to thinking about it, I figured why not try out for Anne. If I'm going to be trying out for Diana, which is the next biggest role, might as well try for the lead. I got the part of Anne after going through so many different auditions with various Diana's, Gilbert's, Marilla's, and Matthew's. Someone once told me that in the beginning the only reason I was picked as Anne was to make me feel good about myself, and if that's true, then they got something special. Not to give myself airs, but I think I was a downright good Anne. biggrin
I can still remember all of the Anne lines, and the whole thing has a special meaning in my heart, because after the productions were done, I did have a lot more self-esteem and wasn't as shy. When I switched schools because I moved to another district, my closest friend told me that I reminded her of Anne Shirley. biggrin
I'm twenty now, and I still go to the preforming arts classes but now I do more volunteering. I am really excited though that we're doing the Anne series again, however this time I'm playing Rachel Lynde, she's SO much fun to do.
Wow, that was long background information. sweatdrop
Grab your spoons and come to the table, tell me about your day.
Have you seen a production of Anne of Green Gables? What did you think of it? Have you ever been in a Anne production yourself? If yes, who did you play? Who did you want to play?

I only remember seeing one stage production of Anne of Green Gables, and that was the musical at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown. I was pretty young then, but I loved it. I can still faintly remember some of the music.

oh you are a girl after my own heart. i would love to see the stage productions but most of all the musical. i am a huge musical theatre fan and because of my university degree all i want to do is be in theatre, but i will more likely be a teacher in the next year or so, but a music teacher non the less. but oh i should look for a recording just to hear it and marvel in the songs and the idea that the music that i hear in my head as i read the books may be a reality.

there's a musical? I saw the movie, but I love it!! I saw it in drama class in grade6 and everyone else was like "this is stupid, old and boring" but I enjoyed seeing. Sadly we never saw the whole thing. For some reason I really feel for it though, the nice parts make my eyes watery, it's a nice feeling, such a great movie!! I've never seen a stage musical but I've watched musicals like Dreamgirls, Across The Universe and others, I even get up and dance and sing to them. Musicals are fun!!

I've never seen a stage production...if I had the opportunity to, I would totally take it, but it just hasn't come along yet.

I can't believe I've not posted in this thread! I had the pleasure of playing opposite Julie (Biyanka) as she played Rachel Lynde while I played Anne. I was so honored that I was chosen to play Anne, and I had a blast doing so. It was a lot of hard work, but I had so much fun those six months I worked on the Anne project!

I know from when I played Anne that it was an amazing experience. I was just too young and just so sad (I was chosen more because my PA teacher thought I needed a boost in self esteem; she knew I could do the part, but she also wanted to help me spiritually as well) that I really couldn't enjoy it. I had more fun playing Rachel Lynde than I did playing Anne, though. Rachel is such a hilarious character, and playing opposite Rami as Anne was great. As cousins in real life, we've definitely had our ups and downs, and we were pretty believable!
