Rabbit adjusted his monocle as he walked into the dining room of the hotel. Elaborate decorations already festooned the walls and workers were already busily scurrying across the floor preparing for the tea party. Smiling at the progress, the young Heila slid past the outstretched table where he met up with a young boy around the age of thirteen or fourteen who stood in the hallway admiring the hubbub which went out around him.

"This is really a party you've got going on, Rabbit," the boy smiled.
"What are you wearing? You can't wear that. Go change, Benjamin!" Rabbit demanded stubbornly as he pointed to the casual sweater and jeans his owner was wearing.

Benjamin opened his mouth to speak, but the Heila was already going off and about with his business. With a party starting in less than five minutes and guests probably already lining up in the lobby, time was of the essence.

He took in a heavy breath and continued into the lobby. After muttering a soft prayer under his breath, he fixed a smile onto his face and pushed open the entrance door.

As he began to speak, he stopped himself. There was nobody outside. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

Perhaps it would've been a good idea to remember to invite some guests.

Rai sighed, the coldness of a new spring biting at her bare ankles. As she walked, Iris's hands swung at hers, making the golden bracelets jingle playfully.

There really was no reason they were down there, just walking downtown, two happy shadows on the pavement. But lately there wasn't much going on in the lives of either, just lazing around in the spring, so it was always a good idea to go out and experience the world once in a while, right?

"Rai, I want to go do something special today~" came Iris' childish voice from beside her, a vivacious smile painting his countenance.

Rai laughed, swinging his arm back and forth in time to his steps.

"Like what, Iris?"

"I dunno, an event or something. A concert. Something cool." he giggled, tail swishing behind him.

Rai frowned, in thought, running her crimson eyes over the scene. There seemed to be a lot of events going on. After all, it was a Saturday, and things were bound to happen downtown. Maybe something would catch her eye as they made their way further.

Disappointed, the young Heila turned back inside. How could he explain to Ben that all the planning, decorating, and preparation was for nothing? Hundreds of dollars which was supposed to be spent for a lively night of celebration was wasted for a lonely and awkward dinner night between the two. Plus, the fact that he used Ben's wallet to pay for it all instead of hosting some sort of fundraiser would certainly be bad news for the both of them.

As he walked into the dining room, he noticed Ben hauling heavy boxes of tea into the kitchen. He had changed into white polo and slacks. Not exactly formal, but it was a start. Now wasn't the time to mock him about his clothing choices.

"The guests... they seem to be fashionably late today," Rabbit fibbed.
"How many of them? They really wouldn't want to miss this," Ben replied as he stuggled to twist his head to see the short Heila.
"Well... all," Rabbit tried to say casually, "But it's no biggy. They'll be here."

Benjamin shrugged and carried on into the kitchen. The Heila sighed and made his way back into the lobby. If at least some guests came, maybe Ben wouldn't be suspicious. He had a plan.

He walked out of the lobby door again, but this time he had a sign and attatched it to door. Printed in messy, red letters, the sign read:

"FREE TEA PARTY IN DINING ROOM. ALL MAY JOIN"

As they made their way further downward, the sun had started to be blotted out by patches of furious-looking grey cloud. Frowning, Rai stopped in the middle of the street, shading her eyes and face with a stray hand.

"Iris, it looks like it just might start raining soon. Maybe we should hurry up a bit?" she whispered fondly, winking at the cheerful heila beside her.

Nodding in agreement, Iris flicked his tail once and was off, almost a ruby blur on a mundane backdrop of city. Laughing, Rai strained her legs to catch up, but in a skirt was no match for him. About to call for him to come back, a flapping piece of paper caught her eye. It was haphazardly taped to the door and the letters were incorrigibly messy. Waving a hand idly for Iris to come back, she squinted and tilted her head, trying to make sense of the words.

With Iris at her side, he simply smiling, following along the words with a finger as he read it out to her,

"Fraa too panty im bining raam. Oii moy jolm." his face was screwed up in a ball as he said it, his tongue thwarted by the twisting mess of the words he read.

Rai laughed, looking at the sign again.

"I think that's, tea, Iris. And all...? Tea for all, maybe? Well, I can't make out much of it, except... let's hope that really doesn't spell, panty. I hear a rumble, Iris, let's just go and see our luck, alright? We can't stay our here much longer."

Iris just nodded sweetly, pushing open the lobby door to a lovely furnished room. It looked so rich and majestic, he found it kind of ironic that it was advertised by a sign like... that. Hoping he wasn't intruding, he lept onto the carpet and swept his eyes about. Now, where were the panties, again?

He looked up at the sign, feeling proud of what he done. He should definitely become an artist or perhaps a writer, whichever one paid more. After soaking in the accomplishment of the sign, he walked back inside the hotel.

How long would the sign withstand the wind? He no clue, but it would have to do. For now, he just would try to avoid Ben and any possible questions he might have about where the guests are. Trying to shake the thought out of his head, he ran his stubby fingers through his gelled hair and made sure everything was in order in the dining room.

There were less workers now. Only the cooks that ran back and forth from the kitchen to the storage closet to retrieve materials remained. He noticed Ben already taking his place at the table, too absorbed in reading the party's menu to notice Rabbit. He managed to make his way back down the hall without making too much commotion.

Rabbit took in another raspy breath, too stressed to pull anything else off. The sign was certainly his only hope, and who wouldn't notice the attractive sign he made? Maybe there was a crowd just admiring the sign, and it would take some time to get over their awe to walk in. That was probably the reason why no one has come in yet.

As he walked out into the lobby, he noticed a human, and an older Heila. Guests! His mind raced as he quickly scurried forward.

"Welcome! Welcome!" he greeted suavely, holding his hand out. "Welcome to the tea party. My tea party. We're so glad you could join us!"

As Iris explored the room to the best of his mannerly limits, Rai kept a watchful eye, making sure he didn't knock over anything expensive. He was a grown heila already, and he still made the most childish of blunders, sometimes... but, ah, she loved him despite. Smiling sweetly, she took a few steps in his direction, about to say something when the sound of pattering steps from within disturbed her actions.

Iris tilted his head from a goldenly enframed mirror he was admiring himself in, his tail swishing and eyes wide at the other heila.

"Why, Rai, that heila looks just like a rabbit of some kind!" he yowled, taking a few amazed steps toward the white pelted creature.

Giggling at the friendly gesture, he looked back to his guardian, winking,

"Rai, it's a tea party after all. Come on, let's go!" he tugged on her sleeve, tail flicking in eagerness.

Rai shook her head, exasperated.

"Excuse him, Mr... eer... Rabbit. We'd love to join you in this tea party, as it's raining and we have no means to get home quite yet. It's incredibly hospitable of you to invite us in like this, thank you! This is Iris, and I'm Rai. What might your name be?" she greeted sweetly, sending him a soft smile.
