...Story Update: Part One, Meeting Snow
"Cake?" Magnus questioned, motioning at the gargantuan confectionery masterpiece that was sitting on her front porch.
"Bloody effin' huge cake," her shadow agreed popping into existence. Magnus glared at the dark clone for a few seconds, before turning her attention back to the object at hand.
"Why cake?" She scratched her head confusedly. She wouldn't put it past one of her friends to pull something like this on her normally, but they all knew that she was supposed to be traveling incognito. As in, avoiding drawing attention to herself. As in, not having giant cakes appearing on her doorstep in the middle of the night for the whole neighborhood to see.
"I suppose I'm not helping either?" the shadow clone offered oh so helpfully, batting its eyes. Magnus grunted and waved it away, dissolving it in the process. Glancing around to see if anyone was watching, Magnus sighed and gave into the inevitable.
She reached out one finger to taste one of the frosting decorations...
And promptly got splattered by cake bits and frosting as the entire thing exploded in her face. Swearing loudly (and probably waking up half the neighborhood in the process), she staggered backwards, resisting the temptation to call either a weapon or a spell to demolish whatever had hit her. Swiping frosting out of her eyes and letting it splatter ungracefully to the floor, she glared at the source of her irritation.
And got stared back at in return.
"Bloody hell?" she asked, anger slowly being replaced by confusion. A small being sat where the cake had once been, covered in icing. Pale blue eyes blinked in confusion as the small creature stuck one frosting-covered finger in his (was it a he?) mouth. If Magnus didn't know any better, she could swear that it looked like an old friend of hers...
And then the implications of the situation hit her.
"Oh hell, I'm going to have to take care of you, aren't I? That's how these things always work," she moaned aloud. Her lamentations finally attracted the attention of her visitor and earned her a small smile.
"Well," Magnus admitted, "At least you're cute."
And with that, she scooped up the small being and went into the house to get cleaned up.
But not before she summoned her shadow clone and ordered it to clean the porch. Priorities were priorities after all.

"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeegh......"
The loud keening noise went on endlessly in the background. Magnus tapped the end of her pencil on her desk in irritation, trying to block out the noise so she could concentrate. She had several commissions from the past few days that required immediate attention which she would give, if...
Snow barreled into the room and attached himself to the lower part of Magnus' leg, which was sticking out due to her tendency to sit sideways. The small heila whimpered and buried its/his face in her pant leg.
The small heila muttered something that sounded like "make it stop", the sound muffled by the cloth. Magnus stared down at him for a few seconds, then looked up at the doorway at the source of the problem.
The older Heila standing there had somehow come to live in their household a few weeks ago. The entire situation was something Magnus was still trying to figure out, something about Valentines Day, blood and a panicking cake chef. Actually, she didn't really remember much other than a person covered in red frosting (at least, she hoped it was frosting) shoving something into her arms and yelling, "Here, I'm sure YOU can handle it!"
So, the dark Heila, who had been dubbed Eryth, had moved in with them. Surprisingly, the somewhat wicked looking being had hit it off with Snow at first. Magnus would've thought that the more outgoing heila would have intimidated shy little Snow, but she decided not to question things.
In hindsight....maybe, just maybe she should've. On principle.
"Eryth," Magnus began in her best tired parent tone, "what're you doing to poor Snow?"
"Nothing, nothing!" The heila grinned at her, placing on hand on its hip. "Lil' Snow here's merely overreactin'."
Snow removed his face from Magnus' pant leg and 'looked' up at her. Magnus had her doubts that the little heila could actually 'see' per se, but he seemed to get around alright, so she wasn't going to question his visual abilities. His bottom lip quivered and he began to sniffle.
Uh-oh...
And seeing as how Snow's communication ability was still shaky at this stage, she'd have to be figuring this one out for herself.
"Eryth, stop doing...er...naughty things to your little brother," Magnus scolded, feeling like an old party pooper. "You should know better."
Eryth stuck out its tongue at her and sashayed out of the room. Magnus responded by making a disgusted noise, then turned back to her original charge.
"There now, all fixed," she chirped, trying to make her voice sound brighter to cheer him up. He gave her a shaky smile, holding back a few last sniffles. Magnus decided that she'd have to seriously investigate Eryth's intentions later, and find out exactly what the mysterious heila was up to.
In the meantime, however, she had work to do. Motioning Snow to the beanbag in the corner, Magnus began sketching out one of her commissions again. Cooing happily, Snow plopped down on the beanbag and began watching his parent at work.
However, somewhere off in another part of the house...
"Hmmm...they think that I've given up, eh? They'll soon learn, I'll never be beaten! Muhaha!"
