I was laying awake last night, thinking about the characters in Death note ( as one is apt to do when restless). For some forgotten reason, the topic of thought turned to wondering if any of them were left-handed. (This may not have came about as randomly as it sounds, it may have started with thoughts about Mello and then went to the left-handedness, I honestly just don't remember.) I finally remembered this afternoon and did some research, this is what I found:
From his first appearance until chapter 67, Mello is right-handed. Right at the beginning of chapter 68, though, that's changed. Until that point he had held his chocolate in his (then dominant) right hand (figure 1). Then in the beginning of chapter 68, in the middle of a conversation, it's switched, without mention into his left hand (figure 2), where it stays (along with any object he uses from this point onward) for the rest of the series (as far as I've been able to see. If you can prove me wrong, please do.)

I'd like to know what any of your opinions are. I don't think this would have been done without at least a little bit of significance. I think it might have been done to make him just a little more "strange" as left-haded people are often seen by right-handed people. (I don't deny that we are though...)
