I think that it is wonderful that they are going to make a Ghost in the Shell film. Im sure that hollywood will screw it up and water it down, however, Im still curious to see it. Im just hoping that they stay relativly true to the original story.

i just crapped my pants!!! this is going to be great. i just saw ironman and there is no way that the scripter for that could screw this up at all. it might be taken in a different direction, but never screwed up. and even if they do then it just becomes a comedy to real gits fans, so they cant lose. i'm also excited about the akira movie but im not sure that this is the place for that. oh well, YAY ANIME IN THE U.S.A.

About the Hollywood adaptation of "Akira," SciFi Magazine says that Leonardo DiCaprio will be starring as Tetsuo. I think he's way too old for the role.

They are going to need some bad-a** actress in order to fill, no wait, even scrap the line of the bad-assy-ness that is the Major. talk2hand

3-d? As in like Beowulf 3-d ness? Or live action as in real actors?
By the way, what movies has Spielberg made, again? I want to have some idea as to what caliber the movie may be.
I really doubt they'll be able to live up to our individual expectations. Just like adaptations from book to movies have so much potential and, yet, they usually fail to satisfy us, in the end. But, I guess I can't complain. It's a rarity to have big producers attempt to make animes into mainstream movies.

3D as in mixing in CG elements or complete CG like Advent Children?
Anyway, I'm rather reluctant about watching a live-action version of Ghost in the Shell. I'd like to consider myself a huge fan of the series, but seriously; out of all the cartoon and video game-based movies I've seen all of them lacked the goodness of their originals (with the exception of Batman Begins). Especially given that Oshii isn't the director, I'm feeling rather uneasy.
Yet, I suppose I might rent the DVD and watch it for kicks. If I feel that Spielberg successfully lived up to Oshii's work, then I might actually go out and buy it myself.

Wow, this news has me both scared shitless and stupidly excited.
I'm going to end up seeing it no matter how badly they kill it though. My chief worry is that they won't be able to bring out the characters as much as I'd like, since everyone in that series has a pretty strong characterization.

Am I the only one who thinks this is an outrage? There is absolutely no need to inject GITS in any way shape or form into the Hollywood mainstream, do we really want an American cheesy catchphrase-ridden, Hollywood desecration?
Hollywood have NEVER made a good remake/franchise adaptation, they ruined the Ring, The Itallian Job and most unforgivingly they ruined one of the greatest films ever made - The Wickerman.
Can't they leave anything sacred alone these days??
Besides, don't you feel GITS has started being milked a little too much nowadays?
I'm sorry if my reaction is over the top, but I feel very strongly about this.

i don't know. i'm excited because it means GITS will be getting attention from a wider audience, but then it is Hollywood, and they do tend to get a bit over-the-top with their censoring and watering-down.
