Hae-min smoothed her purple chima and resettled herself in her chair. (The black jeogori was neatly folded into the bag that sat on the table before her, next to a tall glass of iced tea.) She hadn't been waiting very long, but the... volatile nature of her request (to Brad especially) had her a little bit on the anxious side of her normal mood.

After all. Dancing was something you only asked family about. But Brad was family, she'd rationalized, or as close as she thought an American could come to being her family. Also, he knew how to dance, and that was important to learning to dance.

She could only hope he would come down the stairs soon. Preferably with her Remi in tow.

Dancing wasn't his thing, and his parents had found that out the minute they signed him up for lessons. He didn't have the grace, and instead of forcing him through what the young Remi had exclaimed as 'torture', they took pity on their son and pulled him out of lessons. But, Hae-min was going to some prom, and he didn't mind going with her... so, it was only reasonable that he learned how to dance for her. As it was, Hae-min needed lessons as well, so that was all well and good. Remi and Hae-min could learn together, and when they danced in the center of the dance floor they would not make fools out of themselves. Okay, Remi wouldn't exactly dance in the center if his life depended upon it, but if someone happened to notice the odd pair, they would at least notice that they were decent dance partners. Learning to dance, anyways, was something that could bolster his self-confidence, and he thought at this point that he was lacking some. Most things didn't come to him naturally, like flirting, and doing anything that required some sort of coordination. It was horrible, and so he was going to give himself a pick-me-up by dancing.

He came down the stairs, looking like his normally pleasant self. There was that warm, familiar smile on his face, and the bangs hanging in front of his eyes did nothing to hide their warmth. "Hae-min!" he called out to his prom date, his pace down the stairs quickening slightly so he could come and greet her even more quickly. He really did love Hae-min, in a friendly way, as a brother and sister would love one another. It was the most love someone could hope for in a situation like their's. But, since he didn't much like thinking about it, it didn't stay in his mind long enough to be properly analyzed and dissected.

"I didn't know what kind of shoes to wear, so I put on tennis. I could just take them off and dance in my socks if I have to, but I really don't know." Already he was delving into conversation, which just showed how comfortable he was around Hae-min.

"Tennis will be fine," came the slightly accented drawl from the front door. Brad had just come in from running another errand, wearing cargo pants and a tank top, much to his dismay. Ignoring his discomfort, he approached the two with a faint smile, made obvious by the fact his hair was pulled into a tight, small ponytail. "If you can't dance in tennis shoes, well...the shoes are the least of your problems, kiddo." He reached out to give Hae-min an affectionate squeeze on the shoulder, not wanting to get in the way of the two before he moved on.

He put a small bag onto a near by table, stretching his arms forward with his fingers laced together, effectively cracking his knuckles in a sound that was akin to celery being snapped in two. "So! I'll be forward with the both of you. I can do just about any type of ballroom, but if you want the new hip sh--" he glanced over to Hae-min, "--tuff, I'm not versed in it at all."

Brad folded his hands behind his back, his smile a little wider. "What'll it be, then?"

"Remi!" She smiled and got up out of her chair to give him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Of course, she had to pull his head down so she could do either thing, but that was normal and completely okay. (It was okay, she rationalized, to be giving him hugs and sibling-like kisses; after all, he wasn't a host yet and besides, there was that other part of their relationship that neither really liked or wanted to acknowledge.) With a business-like but not altogether rude manner, she straightened his collar and pulled his hair out of his eyes.

Hae-min was about to say something else when Brad came in, and not wanting to seem rude, she hurried over to give him a hug, too. "Thank you," she said, by way of greeting, before stepping back and smiling happily. Clearly everything was going to be okay, maybe even great. "You look very well," she told him, before continuing, "That okay, I not sure I want learn... hip dancing." Who would want to learn to dance with just their hips, anyway? It didn't make much sense at all, and Hae-min was all for sense in learning new things.

He didn't mind it that she had to pull his head down in order to give him a kiss on the cheek, because he was rather used to it by now. If he had to bend down to get a kiss from Hae-min, he would. Remi enjoyed these little signs of affection, and without hesitation he returned the hug, pressing an affectionate kiss to her forehead. As she straightened out his collar and fixed his hair, he gave her a boyish, slightly abashed grin. Immediately his hair seemed to plop back down in front of his eyes, but at least his collar was fixed. He could never be bothered to preen over himself as some other people did. He just brushed his hair, put on what he thought looked nice, and went out the door. Hae-min had always been better with these things, though, and so he figured he wouldn't have to worry about his appearance so long as Hae-min was there to check him over and fix him up. "Thanks," he murmured, obviously not finding any problem with her fixing his collar and his hair. Hae-min could practically get away with everything when around Remi... and in fact, nearly everybody could.

He greeted Brad with a grin, because that was how he greeted everybody - with a smile upon his face. "I haven't danced often, so I figure that the shoes will likely be the least of my worries." He wasn't terribly uncoordinated... but he was still uncoordinated, and always felt awkward when dancing with somebody else. But, this somebody else was Hae-min, and he was friends with Hae-min. There was no reason for him to screw up, was there? No. He was pretty sure that there was not. "Ballroom's fine, I don't even want to attempt anything else. I doubt it's in my range of capabilities." It wasn't, so Remi was being smart and taking the safe route. He didn't want to make a total and complete fool of himself.

Bare arms wrapped contently around the young woman, hugging her in earnest. "Hey cutie," he chuckled against the greeting before releasing her, regarding the odd couple with a faint smile. "No hip dancing. Promise." Brad stretched again, before resting a hand on his hip, the other rubbing his chin.

"Are you guys looking for something fast? Slow? There's a lot of dances...and not much time to teach you more than a few before the date you gave me." He glanced between the two, before gently taking Hae-min's hand and leading her towards Remi. Taking the young man's hand as well, he drew them both out to the clearing where they'd be dancing, twisting his wrists to end with them both held against himself with his arms around their backs.

"I'll need to see you two together before I can determine anything." Indigo eyes shifted between the two faces. "Certain dances require a certain amount of intimacy, that's the long and short of it."

"You do fine," she scolded Remi. With a gentle poke to his ribs, she tried to fix his hair again- a losing battle, but one that she liked to fight. "You need cut this," she continued, with a light tug on a lock of hair. Hae-min smiled at Brad again, apologetic, before finishing her mild scolding of her boy. "It too long, it fall in your eyes, then you get lost and walk in wall!" Well, okay, maybe he wouldn't do that, because even Remi wasn't so silly, but...

She squeaked when Brad tugged her over to Remi and then out to the dance floor. "Okay," she said meekly, feeling a bit like the meat of a sandwich. Why were both of them so tall? It was unfair, that's what it was. "Maybe... Learn some of both kind, maybe?" She glanced at Remi for his input, and folded up the sleeves of her long undershirt so she could see her hands.

Intimacy. Well, that was okay. A little uncertainly, she shifted closer to Remi and gave Brad a fairly clueless look.

He couldn't help but laugh at Hae-min's continued efforts to fix his hair. He figured he should probably just tell her now that she won't be able to fix it. Indeed, it was long overdue for a good cut, but Remi never felt like wasting money on getting a decent cut. It wasn't so bad the way it was, anyways. "I know, I know, I'll get to it eventually. Promise." He grinned when she tugged on a lock of his golden hair, shaking his head in denial of her next statement. "I can see perfectly fine. If you can see my eyes, that means I can see you, and I'm pretty sure that you can see my eyes." Remi would get it cut, when he figured that it really needed it. For now, though, it could do without a decent cut. It looked well enough as it was, and Remi had other things to worry about other than his hair.

He blinked in surprised when Brad reached out and took his hand, but he obediently followed the older man anyways. Brad knew what he was doing, and Remi had no idea what he himself was doing. It was only logical to do whatever Brad wanted him to do. He didn't seem uncomfortable with Brad's arm around his back, and in fact only looked nervous for what was obviously about to come. They were going to dance, and this was not Remi's strong point. He had no idea how he was going to survive. "Yeah, a little mixture of both, I suppose. A nice mixture."

He stared blankly up at Brad's face, obviously having no idea what he was supposed to do now. His look was just as clueless and hopeless as Hae-min's, and he even turned his gaze to her to see if she had any clue as to what they were supposed to do. She didn't. He didn't. So, he just looked back up at Brad and waited for Brad to bring him to some sort of epiphany.

"Good heavens," he murmured, blinking between the two blank faces gazing back at him. He would have laughed, if not for the fact that he had to remedy the situation. Brad chuckled instead, carefully removing himself from the two and taking their hands. "Dancing is supposed to be graceful, an extention of one body to the other," he explained as he put Hae-min's hand on Remi's shoulder, and the blonde's hand on her side above her hip. "You will have to move together or not at all, because one of you will trip the other or step on the other, and neither is very fun." He moved to their other side, again taking their hands and putting them together this time.

The older man took a few steps back to admire his handy work, clasping his own hands together before spreading them in a questioning motion. "Well? How does that feel? Do you want to bolt yet?" he inquired, only half joking. Poor Remi looked like he may not know what he was getting into, and he wasn't entirely certain Hae-min understood the process of American dancing.

He had no idea how much work he had to do until now. It was like he had just taken on a second job. That thought made him grin a bit, shaking his head to himself and rubbing the back of his neck. It would take some time, but if they both put in the effort, he could at least get them to move in a semblence of unity.

Graceful! Hae-min could do graceful. Or she'd done it, a lot of times, since hanboks required grace or you looked like a drunken monkey. She didn't look like a drunken monkey, so she figured she must do all right in the grace department. "Together or not at all," she repeated dutifully, shifting the hand that Brad put on Remi's shoulder until she felt slightly less ridiculous. It wasn't really that far of a move.

She thought about standing like this. True, she wasn't quite sure that she liked having Remi's hand on her waist- it seemed weird, to have his hand anywhere lower than her shoulders. But all in all, she was okay. "...I not want bolt." Actually, standing like this was kind of nice. She shifted a little more towards Remi and smiled comfortably. This might not go so badly as she'd feared after all.

If only there was wood to knock on- just so she didn't jinx it. She settled for tapping Remi on his shoulder.

This sounded distinctly foreboding. In fact, Remi was sure that this was all going to be wrong. He couldn't do this extension-crap, and he was almost guaranteed to be stepping on Hae-min's foot within the first few minutes. Quickly his confidence began to dwindle, though he did his best not to let it show. He just smiled and smiled, because anyone could be fooled by a smile. Once again he offered no contest when Brad took hold of his hand and placed it on Hae-min's waist. This wasn't so bad, though his cheeks did have a telltale blush to them. He just kept his touch tender and soft, because he didn't want to feel as if he was grabbing her. He just wanted to feel as if she was there with him, and he also figured it wouldn't be good to clutch to her for dear life. The other hand that was moved to hold Hae-min's he had less trouble with, and ever so lightly he held her hand in his. At least he didn't have sweaty palms. That would obviously be nice for Hae-min.

"It doesn't feel that bad," Remi replied, and it seemed as if he had taken the joke seriously. In fact, he even looked at little pale at the question asking him if he wanted to bolt. He didn't, but a part of him was tempted to get out of this very uncomfortable situation. He liked Hae-min, though, and he wouldn't just abandon her like that. No, he had been raised to be dutiful to whomever he was with, and since he was taking Hae-min to prom, he would be dutiful to her until she wanted him not to be. In reality, Remi was just a really, really good boy.

Brad allowed a rare grin to show, wide and earnest. "Perfect. We'll start with a foxtrot, slow, so you can get used to moving together." He moved back to the couple, motioning to them, "You can let go. In fact, Hae-min, stand next to Remi." The older man also stood next to the blonde, looking over to the two and their feet as he gave instructions. "Stand with your feet shoulder width apart. Now. Just follow my lead - it's like taking a large step. Pretend you're stepping over water, just don't lift your feet too high."

With grace that a man his height should never be able to possess, he took two steps backwards, wide but evenly placed. He did a small turn, ending with his eyes on the two. "Just do that. In fact, do it a few times. Let me see. After that, Remi, face the other wall and do it again." He was trying very hard not to smile, anticipating the looks on their faces - Remi's, in particular - at what he was asking them to do. It probably seemed halfway mental, but it would iron out in the end.

Hae-min rolled her eyes at Remi. "It okay," she said again, smiling at him. She disentangled herself from her partner and stood next to him; it felt very strange to have her feet so far apart. With the kind of attention she normally reserved for writing in her journal and eating plain rice with chopsticks, she watched Brad demonstrate, then copied how he did it as best she could.

"Ah!" Halfway through, she stepped on the edge of her skirt and giggled, flushing red with embarrassment before returning to her starting place and trying again. That time, she lifted the hem just enough that she wouldn't step on it, and managed to turn with a little bit of a wobble. "Not so hard," she said, mostly for Remi's benefit. It did take concentration to go backwards, though. Hae-min figured it was a good thing she'd been paying such close attention. She smiled encouragingly at her friend and bunched up her skirt in her hands.

He obediently did as he was told, and let Hae-min disentangle herself from him so he could stand with his feet shoulder-width apart. Remi did his best to listen, his mind whispering soothing and supportive words to itself as Brad began to instruct them. He didn't think he could do it, but at least his mind was trying to tell him that he could. His dark blue eyes became fixed on Brad's feet, watching the graceful movements that he was certain that he would never be able to match. How was he supposed to move so smoothly? He was sure that such big steps would cause his body to bounce up and down in a manner that was totally ungraceful. So, when Brad encouraged them to give it a try, he gave the older man another one of his blank looks, and then turned his observing gaze to Hae-min. He watched her own attempts at the few simple movements, feeling discouraged when she seemed to be suffering from some difficulty with doing it. He almost jumped to her side to make sure she was all right when she nearly tripped on her own skirt, but somehow managed to refrain from doing so.

His lips turned down into a frown that was far more related to a pout than it was a frown, but was called a frown for the sake of his manliness. Remi didn't exactly believe that it was as easy as Hae-min was telling him, but he figured that he shouldn't be standing around anymore. He didn't want Brad to become impatient with him because he was too nervous, shy, and slightly embarassed to dance. So he took two far from smooth steps back, his feet jumping slightly (which he knew was wrong, but he'd fix that soon), and a little turn. So, he considered that a failure, and after a few silent moments of figuring out what he did wrong, he tried again... and again... and a few more agains.

He wasn't really doing that much better from his first attempt, but there was signs of improvement. Perhaps that would give someone hope (it certainly wasn't giving Remi any).

He had to cover his mouth to keep his smile in check, not wanting to insult the two when they were trying. "Good, good, neither of you fell on your butt, that's already promising!"

Brad spent the next several hours instructing the two, both to help and to play. He asked them to hold their arms up, to practice turns, to speed up and slow down the motion. He had them do the steps with himself, slowly, even offering for them to stand on his feet to get a feel for the motion (although he couldn't say such a thing without grinning like an idiot). He had them dance together, apart, next to one another and back to back. Most of the session was simply getting the most used motion in the dance down to something that didn't look like they were stepping over minefields, as well as being comfortable in each other's proximity. Through it all, the older man was thankful for the air conditioning, or the heat would have been the death of all three of them.

"Why don't we take a break?" he suggested at length, hands on his hips, not even looking winded. "If you guys want to rest for a minute, I can grab some water and ice packs if you're hurting." Brad chuckled knowingly. "You will both likely be very sore come tomorrow."
