What got you into jrock? When was it? Spill it.

With me, it was when my oldest brother had me listen to a Pizzicato 5 song that had been on the radio about 7 or so years ago. I really liked it, and wanted to hear more. Later on my other brother, who was a bit of an anime fan, had me watch Gundam Wing and I really liked Two-Mix. Even though they're not rock, they were the impetus I needed to go searching out more great Japanese music.

For me, I eventually got exposed to it through anime.
The first J-Rock song I had ever heard being L'arc~en~Ciel's Spirit dreams inside on the Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within OST.
It sparked quite a bit of interest with me, and I found Japan For Sale Vol.2 at a local Borders. The tracks I fell in love with being Boom Boom Satellites' Soliloquy, Supercar's Yumegiwa Last Boy, and Polysics' New Wave Jacket.
I now have a wide variety of J-Rock I listen to now. Whether it be Visual, Angura, or Alternative.

A friend of mine who was from the Phillipines gave me a CD-R featuring Dragon Ash, GLAY and L'arc~en~Ciel in 7th grade.

My friend had been talking about Jrock for while and wanted me to listen to some songs, so I said yes, mostly because I wanted to hear it and because I wanted her to shut up about it >D. But, the first song I heard was Aoi Tsuki by Dir en Grey ((You know, back when they didn't dissapoint fans everywhere...Not that Machiavellism isn't THAT bad...Kaoru and Die's guitar work make up for half the song being in English.)) I immediatly loved it, and so she sent me some more Diru, Malice Mizer and stuff. Yup, years of wonderful Jrockness *wipes away tear* Brings back fond memories xd

I kept hearing how good Jpop and Jrock was.. So I looked up some stuff and downloaded a bunch of Jpop songs. I hated them. Yet, I really liked how the language sounded. (I’ve never been into most music because I don’t like the way most languages sound sung…) But I remembered this strange girl that I met and talked to occasionaly, who now goes by “Lyulyu”, who was always rambling about some rock from Japanese. (It didn’t help that every time she showed me a picture, they scared me to death then. But I got used to them ;P) So I got her to give me stuff and recommend things, and that’s how I started liking Jrock.

Actually, I think it was when I saw this picture of Gackt (didn't know who it was at the time) holding a baby and someone had added a caption of like "Mana, why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?" And for some reason I had a strong desire to understand this image. Looking back now that is pretty funny. xd

I has been listening to anime music for a while, not really paying too much attention to who did the songs when a friend of mine (Kiyoku on Gaia) started making me CDs with anime music...and a few J-Rock/Pop songs as well. I remember really liking the song Honey by L'Arc~en~Ciel.... A little after that I started looking for songs myself to download and listen to. I started off with a lot of pop...then found hide...didn't like him at first...then I decided I did...and from there I just kept finding more and more...and have loved it ever since... heart 3nodding

Well... it all started when I was ta my cousin's house watching a channel called "Locomotion" where EVA and Saber Marionette J were aired. I liked the rythm of EVA's opening and Saber J's songs, all sung by Megumi Hayashibara.
Then, everywhere I looked L'arc~en~ciel was mentioned, so I ended up downloading some of their songs.
Then I went to live in Brussels and bought some GLAY CD's becauseI had seen their name a lot too. After that I think I decided to buy a X-Japan CD and a Malice Mizer one... I hearted X-Japan and hated MM... and for some time I stayed like that

When I was a huge Pokemon and Digimon fan around 1998-1999, I met some friends online and they introduced me to Megumi Hayashibara. After that, I was getting into jpop a little bit, but about three or four years ago, I took an online quiz to see which jrock band I would like, and I got L'Arc~en~Ciel. The first L'Arc song I heard was Fate and I couldn't stand it, yet I downloaded some more and really liked them. After that, I got a Best of CD in New York that had some Dir en grey, Shiina Ringo, and Gackt. And eventually it all lead to this.

My friend gave me the backwards route, really, through Malice Mizer. First she heard Beast of Blood. Then she saw the video. Then she made me watch the video. Then I went "Holy crap lookit the woman who can't play the violin!" Then she laughed at me, and told me he was a man, and then I went, "I want more." So I started downloading everything that I could, and keeping an eye out for CDs. During the download of Illuminati, I played it for a preview before it finished and went, "O_o?? That's not Klaha!" So then I learned the whole history of Malice Mizer, from Tetsu and Gaz, to Gackt and Kami, to Klaha and Shue.

Then I went to find Gackt's solo stuff, and later Klaha's solo stuff. While looking for Gackt PVs on Kazaa, I saw one labled 'Yokan', and went "Gee, I've never heard of that song before. ... I must have missed it." And I downloaded it. As you might have guessed, it was, in fact, Dir en grey's 'Yokan', and upon first watching it I went, "That doesn't sound like a Gackt song ... That's NOT Gackt ... Hey, this is a feckin' awesome song. Must ... find ... band." And then I went on an all out search for the ones who sing 'Yokan'. I didn't actually realized that 'Yokan' was sung by Dir en grey until I joined the J-rock Icon community on Livejournal, though, and saw a bunch of icons of them from the Filth era look. Then I went looking for Dir en grey, downloaded the song Yokan, and went, "Yo! This is that music video!" sweatdrop Yes, I'm a dork.

For a while I was content with Gackt, Malice Mizer, and Dir en grey. But then through friends and anime I was introduced to TMR, re-introduced to L'arc~en~ciel, and found Kagrra, Gazette, Kana, and Shiina Ringo. Now I'm here.

My name is Mako, and I'm a J-rock-aholic. (And yes, I probably need help.)

Normally you go through Tetsu to get to Gackt to get to Klaha. ::shrug:: I went the other way around and found out about Tetsu last.
