A dream is a wish your heart makes...

I haven't even been a mom for a month now and my baby has already almost died. *sigh* He's a really easy kid to take care of, but the other day I think he ate to much and he started puking and he accidently breathed back in his puke. That was probably the most horrifying experience I've ever had. I had no clue how to get him to stop choking and hitting him on the back hard enough for him to cough it up would probably have broke something. Thank god I had one of those nasal aspirators though gonk Needless to say he's fine now, but I think I'm going to burp him more from now on so if he does puke he pukes in small amounts insteed of projectile vomiting.

Anyways, Has your kid ever scared you shitless? Done something really really stupid without thinking about?

Is he spitting up or is it actual vomiting? Are you nursing him or is he being formula fed? Either way, I would talk to his pediatrician because while spitting up is perfectly normal, excessive spitting up and large amounts should be looked into and the cause be found (For example, if he's formula feeding, he may be sensitive to the kind he's on and you may have to experiment to find one that agrees with him. If you're nursing, you could be eating something that isn't agreeing with him).

(Now if burping him more often is helping, then it could just be gas bubbles in his tummy, but if it doesn't, I would ask at his next appointment or else call your ped's number and speak to them or a nurse about it and see if a visit is warranted.)

lol Ethan has scared the pants off of me more times then I can count. Just part of the territory.

There has been 3 times that my son has scared me like that. All 3 times he was puking. He was like...projectile vomiting. The first time was about 1-2 months ago when he overate. The second time was the onset of him getting sick. And the 3 time was an entire night of him puking every 15 minutes like clockwork, even when he didnt have anything left to puke he dry heaved. It was horrible. There was nothing I could do but try to comfort him, but its hard to comfort a baby when you yourself are flipping out and wanting to cry. They sense these things, so you have to stay calm and stuff.

The only other thing he has ever done that wasnt puke related would be the times he is at my mother in laws and she lets him climb on anything and everything and he will climb up on the chairs and the table and he falls off cause hes a kid and they arent exactly experienced as of yet. I have told that horrible woman a million times that if she wants him there, she needs to WATCH him and he is NOT allowed to climb up onto things....but she never listens. Its to the point where he doesnt go there much anymore now.

I would, like the other mother suggested, talk to you doctor. If he is only about a month old, he shouldnt be actually puking. Spit up is one thing, but puking or throwing up is another. Usually they do not over eat, they are pretty good judges of when they are full though it does happen. Still, its something to bring up, write it down on some paper and bring it with you to the appointment so you dont forget (I used to bring an entire sheet of paper with questions I had written down over the last month or so to ask them lol)

He was projectile vomiting and he threw up more than I though even I could have in my stomach. It was a one time thing and I'm pretty sure it was because I didn't burp him for about half the day. Plus, he ate way to much that day because he was just weighed again and is already 7lbs 12oz which is deffinitly over his birth weight and he's only 2 weeks old. The pediatritian this week wasn't able to talk to me about it considering he barely stayed in the room long enough to say hi. I scheduled for the pediatritian we had the first week though for his 1 month check up so I can discuss concerns.

Good! Get the pediatrician who will take the time to sit and talk with you, if they cant be bothered, than they arent worth YOUR time.

Newborns gain weight quickly, I think the rule of thumb is like an ounce a week or day or something (cant remember lol) so yeah, get him in to see the other doc and talk to that one about it.

Definitely burp him every time. My son is three months, and he's quite a puker too. He still spits up quite a bit even if he burps, but I suppose it's not as much as it would be if I didn't burp him.

Some babies puke a lot, some babies barely spit up. In his first month or so, Aden was quite a projectile vomiter. He could puke from one side of his bassinet to the other. I read that it's not a cause for concern unless it's greenish or yellowish in color, and, actually, one of our doctor's told me that as well.

Also, if your baby's anything like mine, he can eat more than he even wants and ends up puking up half of it. That's what Aden does, more often than not.

Oh yeah, and one more thing: those nasal aspirator things (I call it a nose sucker... ha) are the greatest thing ever. When I took the prenatal class when I was preggo the teacher said those things aren't recommended anymore (at least that what they say here)... but I don't know what I'd do without it some days!

Hehe don't freak out. Jonas did that for the first 4 months of his life. even now he has his days but is pretty much spit-up free. And don't be worried about talking to her doctor about it during your next visit. And don't worry, I freaked out about mine doing it and actually had the doctors number on speed dial for 5 months lol.
