THE CONTEST IS NOW OVER. Feel free to continue to post your poems, though!

I have no idea why I decided to run a contest, because I am horrible at judging anything. Also, I don't think that Art really can be judged - what it means to the person who wrote or created something, and the person who reads or sees the work of Art, is something intangible.

After seeing how much heart everyone put into their poetry...I declare you all winners! Everyone who participated gets the first prize. (Sorry to those of you who wanted to win, but...as I said, it just doesn't seem fair to me.)

I think holiath deserves a special mention for all of his submissions. Keep up the great poetry writing, everyone!

I will send the prizes out shortly via trade. Thanks to everyone who participated!

As I am rather fond of poetry, I am sponsering a poetry contest.

RULES:

1. All poems must be ORIGINAL works (they have to be your own work, not someone else's). They may be on any topic and of any length. Obviously, follow Gaia TOS.
2. This contest will run from Thursday June 12, 2008 to Thursday June 19, 2008. I will choose the winners on Thursday June 19th and send them their prizes on that day.
3. The prizes are as follows:

-FIRST PRIZE: 1,000 gold plus a goldfish in a bag
-SECOND PRIZE: 500 gold plus a goldfish in a bag
-THIRD PRIZE: 250 gold plus a goldfish in a bag
*EVERYONE WHO SUBMITS A POEM WILL RECEIVE A GOLDFISH IN A BAG.* (Sorry, only one goldfish per person.)

4. Each person may submit as many poems as they would like. However, each person is only eligible for one prize (unless fewer than three people enter).

I wrote this poem for my husband after we got together! He is shannon1979 on here!

Key To My Heart

I had closed the door upon my heart,
and wouldn't let anyone in.
I had trusted and loved only to be hurt,
but that would never happen again.

I had locked the door and tossed the key,
as hard and as far as I could.
Love would never enter there again,
my heart was closed for good.

Then you came into my life,
and made me change my mind.
Just when I thought that tiny key,
was impossible to find.

That's when you held out your hand,
and proved to me I was wrong.
Inside your palm was the Key To My Heart,
You had it all along!

She shrouds darkness onto my heart
She feeds on my life she rips apart
Blinding me with her joyous smile
She dissects my soul all in styles
Infected with the love she fakes
She laughs at every bone I break
I spew blood from my core to see her happy
I’ll go through Hell if it keeps her laughy
I can’t cry help, or maybe I don’t want to
We just go through the same thing and pretend it’s new
Work my fingers to the bone. No, my body to the grave
She is a goddess of mind games; she makes me look like a naïve
Lost in red twighlight, stuck on a fiery crutch
She doesn’t know I yearn for her touch
She acts on false pretense when she knows I have a mens sense, which is like worthless 2 cents
She leaves me lifeless, now I’m mindless, stuck with worthless kindness, stranded in darkness
Why can’t we restart, rewind, replay or just pause so we can just stay in this place
I can only sit and watch the world pass by
Lick the wounds, scarred by those diamond eyes
Relieve the hell of that starry smile
You know I'd do anything to make it worth her while

It's nothing really. Was just getting over a break-up and was a little angsty. I never even finished it. xd Hope you likes though.

This is short one i wrote last week , was feeling down because it's one year since my best friend died ! but im relating to it as she is "moving away" , not quite dying coz it sounds too emo-ish ! here it is

Sorry to hear about your loss! I know from experience what it's like to lose someone you love, as I lost my daughter when she was 7 1/2 months old. You are never the same, but somehow you seem to go on with life, but not truly live again! Just try to remember the good times, and remember that God had a bigger purpose for your friend! crying cry

ofcourse , neevr the same again
but it's alright , coz my friend Anna would want me to go on
i mean when she was dying (of leukemia) , i was crying my eyes out , she didnt relly , coz she was the one who was always strong and at times arrogant XD , im the nice one razz

and im sorry to hear about your loss too , i could try to relate but i could not possibly know how u have felt , or still feel .

i did wrote another poem about my friend at Relay For Life , which is this event in memorial and to support people with cancer !

You were only seventeen
When it took you away
The pain you felt was unseen
But you kept saying "it's okay !"

You never did cry
While my tears could have formed the Nile
You never did hide
Lived your life with true smiles.

Slowly, it made you weaker
Still you fought it till your last breath
Somehow, it made your spirit stronger

But althought I can't see you anywhere near
Forever in my heart you'll stay.

Lookin up at night
Imagine you high up there

one bright day in the middle of the night

two dead boys got up 2 fight

back to back they faced each other

drew their swords and shot each other

now the ex deaf policeman heard the noise

and went to arrest the two dead boys

if u don't believe me just ask the blind man

cause he saw it all

i wrote a happy one few months back , i was love strucked so yeah

"Our Night"

Dusk's twilight fading into the night
With fields of colours ahead
Rays of sunlight reaching their heights
Saying goodbye to the clouds they've met

Night falls emerges with busy sounds
consuming the lives of the day
A different life begins from now
Similar yet better in so many ways

I see people moving so fast
Rushing through life in ecstasy together
But I just want this moment to last
With you in my arms forever

We're standing up here so high
With fields of stars above
Watching this night's radiant light
shining upon our fire of love.
