Frantically Shen half-swam, half-pulled himself out from the mound of books. He quickly spun and, to his relief, the weight on the shelf wasn't the plant, it was another shelf. He could still hear it close by though....
He spun around to face the wall and the sudden rise his spirits took sank back to the bottom of his stomach. The glint he had seen was rounded in shape and Shen was hoping that it was a helmet on a suit of armour. He had noticed them all over the castle, standing at attention throughout the halls. And grasped in each suit's gloves, was a sword. The glint Shen saw was indeed a helmet, but it was not in a suit of armour, instead it sat on the top shelf of a pale wooden cabinet with two glass doors on the front, the type usually used to hold dishes. Almost losing hope, he looked down and there it was. Sitting on the shelf at waist height was a sword, on of the glittery kind, with intricate designs running down the blade and a jewelled pommel. As Shen was experiencing a rare moment of hope he heard a deep hiss behind him. The plant had found him.
Quickly Shen grabbed the biggest book he could find (For those interested, it was the Dictionary of Useless things, volume Biii version 2.14) and threw it. Glass cabinets are designed to protect their contents from dust and greasy fingerprints, not flying tombs of useless information. Both doors shattered inwards sending fragments flying.
Shen reached in and snatched the sword from it's glass-strewn bed inside the cabinet. He spun around and was face to face with the plant. It sat, only a few feet away, swaying slowly. Again Shen caught himself wondering if it could even see him. He also wondered where Chi was. He lost her hand while they were running through the bookshelves. She's probably somewhere safe, he thought, unlike me. The two stood for a good thirty seconds, staring each other down. Suddenly the plant lunged. Shen reacted and twisted to one side, allowing the plant to graze harmlessly by. He was now standing beside its head/bulb..thing. With a quick grunt of effort, he swung the sword up, and then down with every ounce of strength he could muster.
CRACK
The blow had driven the top into the floor, but only left a thin gash, no more than a papercut, which a pale green fluid oozed out. More damage had been done to the sword: it had snapped in two. Apparently the sword was in a cabinet for a reason: it was so old that it was weaker than a butter knife.
I am so going to die, Shen thought.
((Okay so one more section...too tired to finish. I am so rusty at this....))
