Hey, I was in a thread with other CF people today talking about the Essure procedure and I found two interesting things.

First off I was glad to see it turns out the insurance I'm under covers the Essure procedure for those who want it for exactly what it is without questioning it looks like, including anything about age or number of children had, so that means as long as I'm still under the insurance plan I'm on, it should be a lot cheaper than it otherwise would be, which is spiffy to know as I've only got about a half a year left before I turn 21 so perhaps I could by that time manage to scrape up enough money together. mrgreen Now I have to see how much it would cost with the insurance. ninja

Second, anybody else remember how I've often said I wished there was a form I could sign to say I was a sane person and knew what the procedure I wanted was supposed to do and so I wouldn't sue a doctor for doing exactly what I told them to? I was looking for where anything was mentioned about the "must be 21" thing (which I actually thought was nice because it was reasonably low of an age and as long as such a law on the age existed it gave more ground to argue your case for not being "too young" with a doctor) and guess where I found it? Yup, HERE. There actually IS already a form I can sign for exactly what I want! It has that you've got to be 21, but nothing about needing any number of kids, it works for not just one sex/gender, and it lets you specify exactly what procedure you're getting done. I also think it is worded well for the most part too, though I don't see why they have a part requesting (though not requiring) your "race and/or ethnicity" on there (funnier still -- for some reason everything is counted as a race on there except hispanic, which is under "ethnicity" and you can check that you are or are not hispanic rather than the rest which you check off what you are.)

Hmmm now the new challenge, getting the doctor to agree on signing it. While this is a good base it is still up to the individual doctors consent, which sucks. evil

The conditions of the form though should take away a vast majority of reason to be hesitant to sign it in the first place though. It includes explicitly that you and the doctor both know damn well what you're signing for, that the patient requested it of their own free will with no fear involved and aware of other less permanent forms of birth control, and that the patient is sane enough to be able to sign this thing and make it binding and it can't be thrown out later on grounds of the patient not having been competent to sign. This should cover any way a person may try to wiggle out of a contract and get a lawsuit generally and just in case they want to be extra sure I don't try to claim the "incompetent to have signed" thing later anyway, I'm willing to briefly be evaluated by a mental health professional first and even on tape if necessary to assure them there is no way I could get away with claiming I wasn't competent to have signed later on. And I'm stubborn too when it comes to things that are important to me, so I am not about to let just any doctor who can do the procedure brush me off without listening and really considering it once I know I'm the legal age and have the cash.

Yeah, I just fear for myself I guess. Doctors here in Colorado seem to be more conservative and a** holeish then others. I know that even if I brought that form to them. Most of them would refuse to sign it despite the intellectual value it has. I guess I just assume the worst in general that way I am less disappointed when the worst happens.

Bleh, sorry to hear that. D; I'd just suggest driving to another state that is less of a pain for the deal, but cost of gas presently might make it not worth it.

Indeed, I do believe you will be able to eventually, just I believe at least most people here can understand why not having to wait long would be very nice.

Too bad most doctors want me to wait and make a mistake... hmmm I wonder if I could sue a doctor for not sterilizing me o.o?

I wonder . . . Suppose you tried to get sterilized, but a doctor refused you on the basis of foolishly believing you couldn't make such a decision at this point in your life (but somehow, you WOULD be fine to make the decision TO have kids. rolleyes ) Shortly thereafter you were raped by a female who, though she got caught and sent to jail, ended up having a kid from the ordeal. Then you were ordered to pay child support for the kid. If you could sue the doctor for the cost of the child support and effectively make the doctor take over the only "parenting" that you would have had to do with the kid, that would indeed be some amusing "just desserts." lol
