Ume sat on the bench in the park, taking a break from her jog. She ran differently now, with more bounce to it than she was used to, and it made muscles she didn't usually use ache.
While she took her break, she decided to people watch. She never tired of the activity, and it mostly kept her out of trouble, so she found herself engaging in it more often than not, lately.
The wallaby girl rummaged through her bag, pushing aside strands that had escaped from her blond ponytail. She was looking for... there it was. Her camera! Now if he saw anything particularly interesting, she could capture the memory.
From where she sat, she could see the jogging path she'd just been on, A little area with an information board and a water founting, a small man-made pond, and off to one side, a fenced in area with some ramps and things that people were using with their skateboards and roller blades. This was a good spot!

It was time to head home, and as much as he'd love to spend another hour or two doing tricks off the ramps, it would have to wait for another day. For now, he'd just content himself with the ride through the long detour he planned to take. Might as well take the scenic route, since he was leaving early anyway. He grinded down a nearby handrail, sticking the landing easily. However, he had to swerve out of the way to avoid smacking into a pedestrian walking by at that very moment. Hatori tried to regain his balance, he really did. And he would have done it, too. If it weren't for that bench that was in his way.
Falling onto some random girl right in the middle of trying to recover from a near-miss accident? So not cool. Seemingly ignoring the girl while trying to look less like a nerd, hatori got straight up and began yeling at the one who'd just continued walking. "HEY! Watch where you're going, blind idiot!" The short preteen held up a fist. Just because his threats were empty didn't mean he'd stop making them. The man was long gone, though, and he finally turned to Ume. "You okay?" He asked with no particular interest or emotion.

Ume herself was fine, having been able to twist mostly out of the way. However, her heart rate had gone through the roof, due to the fact that she'd almost lost her grip on her camera as she had done so.
She recovered, raising one hand to ostensibly smooth her hair down, but really to check for any ears that may have appeared and hightail it out of there if they had. They hadn't appeared this time, and she thought that meant she was getting that new part of herself under control.
When the boy turned back to her and asked his question, she was pretty much recovered, and cradling the camera carefully in her lap.
"I'm fine! And so is my camera, but that was close call," she said, looking down at it. It had been an expensive SLR model when it was new, and it had detachable lens and many dials and switches. She resisted the changeover to digital, mostly because it would require her to buy a new camera, and she still insisted that this one took better pictures.
She looked back up at the young teen, and smiled.
"Hey, I saw you do that trick with your skateboard, sliding on that railing. You're pretty good!" she said, thinking privately that he could work on his situational awareness as well.
"You wouldn't mind if I took some pictures, would you?" she asked.
