Peace signs as a FAD?

Lately, I've been seeing peace signs here there and everywhere. But, it is because they are the new "it" thing. Not because of what they represent. Unlike trend-followers, I wear peace signs to show my lifestyle and beliefs. Other people seem to like them for fashion reasons. What do you think? Should people only display peace signs if they know what they represent or is fashion reason enough?

Oh my God, that pisses me off so badly. I went to the fair yesterday and saw a girl wearing a shirt with peace signs which had /obviously/ been bought at Wal-Mart as a fashion decoration. I caught myself before I said anything about it, though ... just absolutely rubs me the wrong way, y'know. I hate when people wear shirts with bands on them simply because that band is popular and they want to appear popular. It's the same way with peace signs.

It's best described like this, "Hippie is the new Vogue."

I agree. I have a shirt with a peace sign on it but I believe in that and I bought it for that reason. 3nodding

I do have an old Peace sign shaped belt buckle and a ring my mom bought when she was in high school. Besides that I don't really wear the Peace sign right now because of basically what Liverpudlian said. "Hippie is the new Vogue."
Personally I'm in the "Free Hugs" movement at the moment so I'm wearing a home made shirt that says free hugs on it. I would've bout one from FreeHugsCampaign.com but I'm a poor little bugger xp

I hate trends... When I do anything, it's either before the trend forms or completely unpopular... If I were to wear anything peace sign related, it would be for a good reason, not as a trendy thing that will eventually die instead of be kept alive by actual peace-lovers... And I think the only time I made anything with peace signs was on an Earth Day poster I made, since I so lovingly refer to Earth Day as Hippie Day. xD If I had a scanner, I'd show it to you guys...
