Name: Emmett "Zuma" Hayes Age: 20 Birthday: August 1st Height: 5'10" Build: Lean and defined, this guy hasn't just been sitting around doing nothing; Zuma's been going to the gym and running after his mornings, which were dedicated to job interviews. He doesn't necessarily look like he could fight someone in a brawl, but Zuma is deceptively muscular.
Ethnicity: Who knows? His mother claims to be some sort of mixed nationality, blending German, Irish, Scottish, English, and Scandinavian (though, he thinks she added that in just for flavor), while his father has lived in Connecticut all his life - attended the University of Connecticut, then went on and got his Masters at Yale for neuroscience. He's just... everything.
Hair: dark mocha brown cut short and almost indifferently. He always styles it in the morning, spending a good ten to fifteen minutes laying each of the hairs just the way he likes them. Appearance - especially hair - is a big thing for Zuma. It's usually gelled up, messy and perfect in its own way. Eyes: vivid turquoise, usually staring right at you. Zuma has an odd habit of watching people and not really noticing that he's doing it. Expression: one word: guarded. Zuma likes his space, but comes out of his shell when he needs to. But, only when he needs to, like when he's serving customers. Pose: Something akin to tense and wary, Zuma usually stands in a corner with his back to a wall or something else that he knows won't jump on him suddenly. He has the odd habit of tucking his chin down close to his chest and looking at people form a slight upwards angle. His hands are most often found in his pockets, tucked away from sight because of Zuma's awkwardness with putting his hands on tables or in his lap.
Clothing style: He's attracted to the more neutral colors - blacks and grays and browns - sticking to those rather than wearing something that would make him stand out. He likes to be comfortable, but likes to look nice, too. A thin black shirt is what usually goes on first, followed by a classy black vest with vertical silver stripes. Zuma then picks out a pair of light khaki pants with a black leather belt, buckling the silver ring around his waist. Socks and black boots, shiny and new-looking, come afterwards. Zuma has plenty of matching beige jackets that he wears if he has to venture outside, or if it's a bit chilly in the wintertime, or if he feels like it, which is most of the time. (See picture reference, but the jacket is more of a blazer type without the hood in the picture)
Accessories: He only ever keeps one thing on her being at all times: an 18 karat white gold ring with three diamonds in it, given to him by his father. Having worn it on a necklace when he was younger, then on the middle finger of his left hand when he grew to fit it (never the other way around), Zuma doesn't show it off because he doesn't like people asking questions about it. And, therefore, puts his hands where they can't be seen: in his pockets. If Zuma's caught wearing something more formal than his usual attire - say a suit for a special night on the town - then the cufflinks come out: a square design with a pink sapphire set in the middle, a gift from his mother. Tattoos: A small lion head roaring is etched into his lower left back, but it's small - only about 3 x 5 inches. It was just one of those things. You go out, get drunk, decide that you're an adult and can do what you want with your body, no matter what your parents told you. Etc, etc. Come to think of it. That was the first night he was out on his own. Whoops. Trademarks: The playful scoff is definitely his one unique attribute: a simple delicate-sounding snort that means no harm to the speaker, but clearly shows that he finds the idea amusing. It's usually accompanied by a smile, a rare occurrence, that brightens his mood considerably.
Personality: Reserved and on guard, Zuma is actually really sensitive to what others think of him and their actions towards him. Not that he'd ever let anyone know that. He tries not to get too involved with people because of his pattern of just disappearing (as in, not talking to them) for days, creating frustration and tension. So, Zuma knows now that it's better to just not start anything. Or at least, be very wary of it. In general, he cares what people think of him and if they like him, but is too shy to say anything about the fact. So, he plays the indifferent type, not really caring about anything. It's all a lie.
Habits: As stated before, this particular guy has an odd habit of people-watching: observing customers, people, and passersby alike in their actions. Though, if he's caught, Zuma usually just blinks, smiles and looks away, it's on rare occasion that he might wave and go over to greet someone. He doesn't like to be late and arrives far too early for small appointments when he can, but that may show that he has nothing better to do with his time. Yet. Zuma tries - very hard - to talk openly with customers, forcing himself to put his hands on the table in plain view if the conversation is engaging enough. The only bad thing about that is that then he has the tendency to twist his ring around his finger, something that he doesn't notice until it's pointed out by someone else.
Likes: - strawberries - being up late at night - winter season (the looks of it) - cowboys (Cowboys always beat the Indians)
Dislikes: - cold - daylight savings time - indians (*ahem* Native Americans. He always lost when he was an indian growing up)
Family Past/Present: Growing up in the suburbs in a decently well-off family, Emmett never had any problems with getting what he needed. Through the beginning of high school, he was a good kid - on the honor roll, part of the varsity soccer and track teams, a peer mentor, and popular enough by his own standards. At the start of Emmett's junior year, the science fair rolled around, and his project on sicknesses that travelers must be wary of while traveling abroad was elaborate and detailed. He thought that it was enough to get by: the basic pictures and explanations, along with creative backgrounds and witty jokes. Yet, while presenting to the entire grade, he let slip a comment about Montezuma's Revenge, a type of traveler's diarrhea that he had contracted while vacationing in Mexico a few years ago. And so saying, received the name Montezuma, later shortened to just Zuma.
After just two short years of the nickname, the newly dubbed Zuma decided that college was the place to start over, get a new (more likable) nickname, and really do something with his life. Applying to a few different tastes of schools, Zuma wanted to have choices; from the Ivy League schools of Dartmouth and Yale to the lesser heard of colleges, such as Rochester Community College, it seemed like he'd get in where he wanted to.
Alas, rejection hit him hard. With no schools accepting him and no able to get in on any wait-lists, he told his parents that he was going traveling for a year or so to clear his head and "take a break". A few months turned into a year, which turned into two years, and Zuma hasn't called home since the last time he had a job: three months ago when he was working as a waiter for a sleazy restaurant on the other side of town. Now, he needs money, whether it be from a legitimate job or from some quick task, and Searan's looks like the place he can go to find it.
Status: Single Orientation: Bisexual Type: Prefers not to have a type, but with most likely fall for someone who can provide him with a sense of security and who can deal with his bed-head. Notes: Doesn't like to talk very much and is usually very quiet until he feels that he can trust the other person. Then, you won't be able to get him to shut up.
