I just finished reading a thread in here semi-related to this. It had to do with fear of death. I, too, am afraid of death but also afraid of the end of the world occuring in our lifetime.
I remember [accidentally] watching a documentary on Nostradamus when I was younger and there saying that the end of the world would occur in 2012 and then later I remember watching a movie on the Mayans in 7th grade and them predicting that the end of the world would happen on December 21, 2012. I've been paranoid ever since I've heard both. So I've been pushing these thoughts to the back of my head but at night or whenever I have time the thoughts keep coming back. I keep picturing something catastrophic happening that NONE OF US could help. I keep telling myself that no one knows the day or the hour, just like how the Bible says, and I pray the rosary. [My friend, who's going off to the convent, tells me that praying the sorrowful mystery of the rosary is the best prayer against Satan.] And again, the thoughts keep coming back.
I need closure. Something or someone telling me that nothing bad would happen. I just hope it's something miraculous like our glorious Savior coming back and just scooping me up in His arms to console me of my worries. I pray and pray that it'd happen.
So please, does anyone have any say towards this?

ok well heres the deal. nostradamus is an insane guy who lead people on just because. its what we call a false prophet and if he was catholic he is a heretic. and i still like to think like a templar so what we do to heretics isnt fun for them. but hes dead already.
now seriously no one knows when that sorta things gonna happen so dont sweat it. ive had the same sort of problem. like i really wana marry the girl inm dating right now but if the world ends whats the point right? but you know God operates in ways the human mind cannot grasp so if he did send us a message i dont think itd be that because as God hed know no one would listen or well very few will.
you really dont have to worry bout it though as long as your a good catholic and go to confession and attend mass and life your life right and such what youll be fine. what ive always done to distract myself is play video games. like just mindless killing ones or extremely challenging puzzle games what ever you like. or if your a musician play music or write your own song. read a good book or pray.
also a great idea is talk to your parishes priest one you really trust and like. just go up to him and like ask him if he knows any way to distract you anything that could help at all.
but ya just dont sweat it cause it doesnt matter. we need to live for today the best that we can cause tomorrow the world might end. but we never know when itll happen. the thing that really kept me going is that im sooooo happy with my girlfriend right now i just resolved it the simplest way i could. im gonna be happy now cause i know she loves me and i love her and even if we die together then atleast i know i made her happy and helped her through life. because one of the most important things in my life is others happiness it just makes me happy.
but i hope my ranting has helped in some form or something i tend to deviate from the topic and go out on little life expirence stories and such now and again. ^^;

Nostradamous also supposedly predicted a giant asteroid smashing the earth (or being discovered as a real danger) in August of 1999. I also read that many of his "predictions" were actually fabrications made up to fool Hitler.

There are plenty of historians who believe that the 12/21/2012 end of the world thing is actually just superstitious New Age crock and that the Mayans actually believed the end of the calendar cycle to herald the coming of a significant event but not necessarily the end of the world. Supposedly it's something to be celebrated rather than fears...and then the calendar cycle would just repeat itself from the beginning.
I think that's what I read in Wikipedia.
I go through the same thing myself actually...only I sometimes worry that we won't even make it to 2012 (or even to my own wedding this November) but I won't burden you with the details. But it forced me to face my mortality...which is terrifying if you're never given it much thought. All I can say is that the rosary has helped bring me strength. I'm still scared but I feel more accepting of it. If the world ends it won't be because Nostradamus foresaw it or the Mayans predicted it. It will end because God willed it to. He could be very willing to stick it to those presumptuous Mayans. razz

We know no the time or cause of our deaths. i actually believe its a quote from elder scrolls 4 oblivion ^^; but still a very true one.
we all just need to live our lives as best we can.

but i think i can help you a little here,
when the world ends, it will be after the earth is renewed, which has not happened yet, what people call "the end of the world" is not really the end of the world, but only the end of the world as we know it, we may suffer a great deal before then, but there is absolutely nothing to fear as long as we're living a good life,
i know i can't ease your fears, but it's something to think about, and maybe it will help...i dunno, but i'll pray for you anyways.

Also, there have been upwards of twenty times at least in the past few hundred years that people were predicting the world was going to end. I don't know if this is a comedy or sad show for God, but it is silly either way.
Now I'm not saying I don't think of 2012, but look at [0]6/[0]6/[200]6, nothing happened then right? That December of 2012 I bet more than anything will ba able to celebrate another Christmas.

During a homily, the priest took the time to explain that the end of the world is actually something to look forward to because Jesus is going to make everything right again. That helped a little. ^^>

I do not fear the end of the world. In fact, I'm waiting for it, you know? That's because I always wished that God will show His power to those people who denied Him.....
.....But then, that would only happen if everyone has already forgotten Him or everyone has denied or disowned Him....

actually emarld you should also fear God himself he may be all forgiving but he is also the single most powerful thing end of story and his love has no boundaries. if the fact that he is all powerful isnt scary enough then the fact that we will never understand how he acts and why is.

Silbr Angekl "the only thing you should fear is hell, and that is nothing to fear as long as you obey Gods commandments." *idk how to quote people...* actually emarld you should also fear God himself he may be all forgiving but he is also the single most powerful thing end of story and his love has no boundaries. if the fact that he is all powerful isnt scary enough then the fact that we will never understand how he acts and why is. well, the thing is, God fearing does not mean to actually be afraid of God, God does not want us to fear Him in that way, it's not like fearing death or hell, a healthy fear of God is when you are afraid to displease God or offend Him, also to fear taking His love for granted, God wants us to Love Him and trust in Him, and although His wrath is something to fear, God Himself would not do anything that was not good for you, and He would never punish you unless you deserved it, so in the same way, even Gods wrath is nothing to fear, as long as you obey Him and keep His commandments. i'm sure alot of people are confused about what "God fearing" means, because i use to be, although i can't seem to explain it as well as it was explained to me neutral so i dunno how much sense i made...

Don't let it scare you too much or else you're gonna get messed up. sweatdrop *Talking from Experience* Yeah, it tore me up REAL bad and led to others things that aren't...good...but you just have to learn to let it go.
I'm not saving to just ignore it. Try not to focus on it so much that it takes over your thinking. If you think about it this way, you could die from almost ANYTHING!! Car accident, falling off the steps, choking on food...
The end of the world is scary, but I bet so was walking on water for Peter. Still he was able to take those first few steps because he had faith in God. Don't worry about it let your faith be strong and ever growing. wink
