Seeing as Woodwinds have more posts in there subforms than the Brass..

I should just make the Brass forum into a colorguard forum.

No offense but with the only a few exceptions woodwinds are much easier to learn how to play. Brass on the other hand take a special group of people. We can't just hit a key to go higher we have to do it with our mouth. Not everyone can do it.
And with our band any one who joins in High School (i.e. our colorguard who don't want to sit in study hall) start out on Clarinet.
Sorry if I seem harsh but the woodwind section in our band sucks with the exception of a few people we would be better off without them. Along with our color guard that took anyone who tried out. None of them are in time wth eachother except the captins and last year they where one off the reasons we didn't get to state. (sorry needed to vent a little)

Haha! Well, Sailor, sorry but I have to disagree with you. My band this year happens to be the opposite, with an EXTREMELY strong woodwind section and an. . . ok brass section (to put it nicely). But that is just us.
Now I know brass instruments are hard to play. I mean, with a limited number of keys I realize that the mouth is used a lot to hit notes. Still, you forget about oboes and bassoons. I don't know if you know this but they also have to move their mouth with every note. (Yes I play oboe) The instruments are EXTREMELY picky and every note is different than the rest so the lips must constantly move to adjust. Add that to quick finger movements over many keys and you have a difficult instrument. It takes even more special of a person to play those instruments (In my opinion)
I know that those are only two of the woodwind instruments but I really don't feel like getting into the details of the others. And though I do think that woodwinds are better (better sound and more difficult to play) I also think that my opinion is biased cause every woodwind will say woodwinds are better and every brass member will say brass are better. mrgreen

I can agree about the oboe (my friend who graduated played that) and some other woodwind instruments. But their not for marching band although we have marching tenor sax's. and I did say with a few exceptions.
I guess my main problem is the quality of people who choose woodwind in our band. With the exception of two people our Clarinet section is useless because they don't care. But with the brass we have that problem with our french horns.

Ah. . . That makes sense. We had a lot of people in my band last year, both woodwind and brass, that could care less. Thankfully they have all graduated and we have dedicated players this year. mrgreen

I never said anything about brass or woodwinds being better than eachother.
I just stated that WW have more posts in there subform.
And that if nobody cares to talk about the brass i should make it a colorguard (seeing as there are tons of posts about them)

Maybe brass have less posts in their subforum because we actually have lives, and aren't always on Gaia talking about how great we think our instruments are.

I'm torn
because tecnically I'm a woodwind (cas' I'm a saxaphone)
but I'm always play brass parts and I stand with the brass so I dun't know if I can pick crying

we all dont think our instruments are better
i mean i play the flute and i love how brass sounds(especially low brass)ill admit i cant play brass(due to the buzzing and small amount or lack of keys) and i cant play reed instruments(they feel funny) so i play the flute...half the players in out band dont care but some do and the ones who do...i tottally envy their sounds(not that im terrible..im first chair...not that im bragging...just saying...i think that it takes a true musician to appreciate other instruments and not put yours above everyone elses)
and im not saying woodwind doesnt rock or that brass doesnt rock
we just have out different reasons
and i think every instrument takes a special kind of person
